Convergence of Gauss curvature flows to translating solitons

We address the asymptotic behavior of the $α$-Gauss curvature flow, for $α>1/2$, with initial data a complete non-compact convex hypersurface which is contained in a cylinder of bounded cross section. We show that the flow converges, as $t \to +\infty$, locally smoothly to a translating soliton which is uniquely determined by the asymptotic cylinder of the initial hypersurface.

Hitting estimates on Einstein manifolds and applications

We generalize the Benjamini-Pemantle-Peres estimate relating hitting probability and Martin capacity to the setting of manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded below. As applications we obtain: (1) a sharp estimate for the probability that Brownian motion comes close to the high curvature part of a Ricci-flat manifold, (2) a proof of an unpublished theorem of Naber that every noncollapsed limit of Ricci-flat manifolds is a weak solution of the Einstein equations, (3) an effective intersection estimate for two independent Brownian motions on manifolds with non-negative Ricci curvature and positive asymptotic volume ratio. We also obtain generalizations of (1) and (2) for the manifolds with two-sided Ricci bounds and Einstein manifolds with nonzero Einstein constant.

Evolution of non-compact hypersurfaces by inverse mean curvature

We study the evolution of complete non-compact convex hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ by the inverse mean curvature flow. We establish the long time existence of solutions and provide the characterization of the maximal time of existence in terms of the tangent cone at infinity of the initial hypersurface. Our proof is based on an a'priori pointwise estimate on the mean curvature of the solution from below in terms of the aperture of a supporting cone at infinity. The strict convexity of convex solutions is shown by means of viscosity solutions. Our methods also give an alternative proof of the result by Huisken and Ilmanen on compact star-shaped solutions, based on maximum principle argument.

Heat flow on time-dependent manifolds

We establish effective existence and uniqueness for the heat flow on time-dependent Riemannian manifolds, under minimal assumptions tailored towards the study of Ricci flow through singularities. The main point is that our estimates only depend on an upper bound for the logarithmic derivative of the volume measure. In particular, our estimates hold for any Ricci flow with scalar curvature bounded below, and such a lower bound of course depends only on the initial data.

A note on the selfsimilarity of limit flows

It is a fundamental open problem for the mean curvature flow, and in fact for many partial differential equations, whether or not all blowup limits are selfsimilar. In this short note, we prove that for the mean curvature flow of mean convex surfaces all limit flows are selfsimilar (static, shrinking or translating) if and only if there are only finitely many spherical singularities. More generally, using the solution of the mean convex neighborhood conjecture for neck singularities, we establish a local version of this equivalence for neck singularities in arbitrary dimension. In particular, we see that the ancient ovals occur as limit flows if and only if there is a sequence of spherical singularities converging to a neck singularity.

Inverse Mean Curvature Flow with Singularities

This paper concerns the inverse mean curvature flow of convex hypersurfaces which are Lipschitz in general. After defining a weak solution, we study the evolution of the singularity by looking at the blow-up tangent cone around each singular point. We prove the cone also evolves by the inverse mean curvature flow and each singularity is removed when the evolving cone becomes flat. As a result, we derive the exact waiting time for a weak solution to be a smooth solution. In particular, a necessary and sufficient condition for an existence of smooth classical solution is given.

Type II Singularities on complete non-compact Yamabe flow

This work concerns with the existence and detailed asymptotic analysis of Type II singularities for solutions to complete non-compact conformally flat Yamabe flow with cylindrical behavior at infinity. We provide the specific blow-up rate of the maximum curvature and show that the solution converges, after blowing-up around the curvature maximum points, to a rotationally symmetric steady soliton. It is the first time that the steady soliton is shown to be a finite time singularity model of the Yamabe flow.

Convergence of Curve Shortening Flow to Translating Soliton

This paper concerns with the asymptotic behavior of complete non-compact convex curves embedded in $\mathbb{R}^2$ under the $α$-curve shortening flow for exponents $α>\frac12$. We show that any such curve having in addition its two ends asymptotic to two parallel lines, converges under $α$-curve shortening flow to the unique translating soliton whose ends are asymptotic to the same parallel lines. This is a new result even in the standard case $α=1$, and we prove for all exponents up to the critical case $α>\frac12$.

Yamabe Flow: steady solitons and type II singularities

We study the convergence of complete non-compact conformally flat solutions to the Yamabe flow to Yamabe steady solitons. We also prove the existence of Type II singularities which develop at either a finite time $T$ or as $t \to +\infty$.

Multi-D Fast Diffusion Equation via Diffusive Scaling of Generalized Carleman Kinetic Equation

In this paper, we investigate generalized Carleman kinetic equation for n$\ge$2 and prove convergence towards the solution of equation with fast diffusion or porous medium type, $u_t=Δu^m$ ($0\le m\le2$), in its diffusive hydrodynamic limit. Using comparison principle of system combined with fixed speed propagation property of transport equation, we create a new barrier argument for this hyperbolic system. It is crucial to construct explicit local sub and solution of system and this is done by employing an ansatz from second order asymptotic expansion. This allow us prove diffusive limit toward subcritical FDE, which is thought to be difficult with previous method due to the lack of mass conservation. Moreover, we can also prove convergence with growing initial data in slow diffusion range (including $n=1$), which was also unknown before.
