From Fredholm Determinants to AdS/CFT Observables: A Universal Strong-Coupling Framework

We investigate the trans-series structure of the cusp anomalous dimension of $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory and the dynamically generated mass gap of the $\mathrm{O}(6)$ sigma model at strong 't Hooft coupling. We consider the one-parameter deformation of the cusp anomalous dimension, known as the tilted cusp, and review its strong-coupling expansion obtained through its representation in terms of Fredholm determinants with a matrix Bessel kernel. The advantage of this deformation is that the non-perturbative scales separate naturally, revealing structures that remain hidden in the physical limit. Motivated by this observation, we introduce the tilted mass gap, which reduces to the physical $\mathrm{O}(6)$ mass gap at a special value of the deformation parameter and exhibits a deep connection with the tilted cusp. This formulation allows us to determine the complete strong-coupling trans-series and resurgence structure of the $\mathrm{O}(6)$ mass gap, while extending and proving conjectured relations between successive non-perturbative corrections. Building on the underlying Fredholm determinant representation, we construct an Alien calculus that generates all non-perturbative sectors of these AdS/CFT observables directly from their perturbative expansions. Finally, we derive an exact all-orders relation between the strong-coupling trans-series of the $\mathrm{O}(6)$ mass gap and the cusp anomalous dimension of planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory.

The full strong coupling expansion of the cusp anomalous dimension and the O(6) mass gap

We present the full transseries of the strong-coupling expansion of the cusp anomalous dimension in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory. This quantity admits an exact representation as a ratio of two determinants with particularly simple strong-coupling expansions. Nonperturbative contributions are classified by partitions into distinct odd integers and obey a universal structure, with Stokes constants that can be computed iteratively. We also determine the full transseries of the O(6) mass gap as a function of the 't Hooft coupling. In the AdS/CFT string description, this mass gap fixes the dynamically generated scale of the O(6) sigma model governing the sphere fluctuations, and we establish its full nonperturbative relation to the cusp anomalous dimension.

Strong coupling structure of $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM observables with matrix Bessel kernel

In this paper I continue the program of studying the strong coupling expansion of certain observables in $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory, which are given by a determinant with a matrix Bessel kernel. I show that, by reorganizing the transseries of the determinant at large values of the 't Hooft coupling, a simple underlying structure emerges, in which each exponentially suppressed correction is related to the perturbative series in a simple way. This new approach provides an efficient method to generate the full transseries for $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM observables, such as the cusp anomalous dimension, multi-gluon scattering amplitudes, and the octagon form factor. Using high-precision numerical analysis, I verify the results and provide a complete description of the resurgence structure of the strong coupling expansion.

Bootstrapping ABJM theory

Supersymmetric localization reduces the computation of protected observables in ABJM theory to finite-dimensional matrix integrals. Building on the techniques introduced in arXiv:2512.02119, we develop a bootstrap framework for the systematic calculation of instanton corrections to the free energy and to supersymmetric Wilson loops. Exploiting exact functional relations and consistency conditions satisfied by grand-canonical observables, in the Fermi-gas formulation of the ABJM matrix model, we provide analytic derivations of several relations for the free energy that were previously known only conjecturally, either from refined topological string theory or from high-precision numerical studies. We apply the same framework to determine the nonperturbative corrections to $1/2$ and $1/6$ BPS Wilson loops, elucidating their qualitative differences and uncovering novel structural features of the instanton effects. These results further highlight the intricate nonperturbative structure and network of dualities underlying ABJM theory.

Wilson loops in ABJM theory reloaded

We present a new technique for computing supersymmetric Wilson loops in the ABJM theory via supersymmetric localization, valid for arbitrary values of the rank of the gauge group $N$ and the Chern-Simons level $k$. The approach relies on an operator representation of the Wilson loops within the Fermi gas formalism in terms of the resolvent of a certain integral operator previously encountered in the computation of the ABJM partition function on the round three-sphere. By deriving a set of nontrivial relations for this resolvent, we obtain exact expressions for the generating functions of Wilson loops in terms of the partition function. For large $k$, these expressions reproduce the weak-coupling expansion of the Wilson loops, and in the large-$N$ limit at fixed $k$ they match previously obtained high-precision numerical results. This analysis also resolves the longstanding discrepancy between numerical data and the semiclassical expression for the $1/6$ BPS Wilson loop.

Universality in the resurgence of generalized Tracy-Widom distributions

We analyze determinants associated with Bessel kernels and generic symbol functions, which govern a class of observables across all values of the 't Hooft coupling in supersymmetric gauge theories. Previous approaches, based on integro-differential equations, have provided systematic strong-coupling expansions for the logarithms of these determinants, expressed through the moments of the symbol. The resulting asymptotic series, once completed with non-perturbative terms, allowed the leading resurgence relations to be tested. In this Letter we focus directly on the determinants themselves, and we uncover a strikingly simple non-perturbative structure: all trans-series corrections share a universal form, while the moments transform in a direct and intuitive way. This simplicity points to an underlying organizing principle for the non-perturbative dynamics of gauge theory observables.

A holographic connection between strings and causal diamonds

In this paper we explore ideas of holography and strings living in the $d+1$ dimensional Anti-de Sitter space $AdS_{d+1}$ in a unified framework borrowed from twistor theory. In our treatise of correspondences between geometric structures of the bulk $AdS_{d+1}$, its boundary and the moduli space of boundary causal diamonds aka the kinematic space ${\mathbb K}$, we adopt a perspective offered by projective geometry. From this viewpoint certain lines in the $d+1$ dimensional real projective space, defined by two light-like vectors in ${\mathbb R}^{d,2}$ play an important role. In these projective geometric elaborations objects like Ryu-Takayanagi surfaces, spacelike geodesics with horospheres providing regularizators for them and the metric on ${\mathbb K}$ all find a natural place. Then we establish a correspondence between classical strings in $AdS_{d+1}$ and causal diamonds of its asymptotic boundary. At each point on the worldsheet, the tangent vectors $\partial_\pm X$ are projected onto boundary coordinates that identify the past and future tips of a causal diamond. Under this projection, the string equations of motion translate into a dynamics of boundary causal diamonds. A procedure for lifting up a causal diamond to get a proper string world sheet is also developed. In this context we identify an emerging $SO(1,1)\times SO(1,d-1)$ gauge structure incorporated into a Grassmannian $\sigma$-model targeted in ${\mathbb K}$. The $d=2$ case is worked out in detail. Surprisingly in this case $AdS_3$ with its strings seems to be a natural object which is living inside projective twistor space. On the other hand ${\mathbb K}$ (comprising two copies of two dimensional de Sitter spaces) is a one which is living inside the Klein quadric, as a real section of a complexified space time.

Exploring superconformal Yang-Mills theories through matrix Bessel kernels

A broad class of observables in four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ and $\mathcal{N}=4$ superconformal Yang-Mills theories can be exactly computed for arbitrary 't Hooft coupling as Fredholm determinants of integrable Bessel operators. These observables admit a unifying description through a one-parameter generating function, which possesses a determinant representation involving a matrix generalization of the Bessel operator. We analyze this generating function over a wide range of parameter values and finite 't Hooft coupling. We demonstrate that it has a well-behaved weak-coupling expansion with a finite radius of convergence. In contrast, the strong-coupling expansion exhibits factorially growing coefficients, necessitating the inclusion of non-perturbative corrections that are exponentially suppressed at strong coupling. We compute these non-perturbative corrections and observe a striking resemblance between the resulting trans-series expansion of the generating function and the partition function of a strongly coupled theory expanded in powers of a mass gap.

Solving four-dimensional superconformal Yang-Mills theories with Tracy-Widom distribution

We study a special class of observables in $\mathcal N=2$ and $\mathcal N=4$ superconformal Yang-Mills theories which, for an arbitrary 't Hooft coupling constant $\lambda$, admit representation as determinants of certain semi-infinite matrices. Similar determinants have previously appeared in the study of level-spacing distributions in random matrices and are closely related to the celebrated Tracy-Widom distribution. We exploit this relationship to develop an efficient method for computing the observables in superconformal Yang-Mills theories at both weak and strong coupling. The weak coupling expansion has a finite radius of convergence. The strong coupling expansion involves the sum of the `perturbative' part, given by series in $1/\sqrt\lambda$, and the `non-perturbative' part, given by an infinite sum of exponentially small terms, each accompanied by a series in $1/\sqrt\lambda$ with factorially growing coefficients. We explicitly compute the expansion coefficients of these series and show that they are uniquely determined by the large order behavior of the expansion coefficients of the perturbative part via resurgence relations.

Tracy-Widom distribution in four-dimensional super-Yang-Mills theories

Various observables in different four-dimensional superconformal Yang-Mills theories can be computed exactly as Fredholm determinants of truncated Bessel operators. We exploit this relation to determine their dependence on the 't Hooft coupling constant. Unlike the weak coupling expansion, which has a finite radius of convergence, the strong coupling expansion is factorially divergent, necessitating the inclusion of nonperturbative, exponentially small corrections. We develop a method to systematically compute these corrections and discuss the resurgent properties of the resulting transseries.

Segmented strings and holography

In this paper we establish a connection between segmented strings propagating in $AdS_{d+1}$ and $CFT_d$ subsystems in Minkowski spacetime characterized by quantum information theoretic quantities calculated for the vacuum state. We show that the area of the world sheet of a string segment on the AdS side can be connected to fidelity susceptibility (the real part of the quantum geometric tensor) on the CFT side. This quantity has another interpretation as the computational complexity for infinitesimally separated states corresponding to causal diamonds that are displaced in a spacelike manner according to the metric of kinematic space. These displaced causal diamonds encode information for a unique reconstruction of the string world sheet segments in a holographic manner. Dually the bulk segments are representing causally ordered sets of consecutive boundary events in boosted inertial frames or in noninertial ones proceeding with constant acceleration. For the special case of $AdS_3$ one can also see the segmented stringy area in units of $4GL$ ($G$ is Newton's constant and $L$ is the AdS length) as the conditional mutual information $I(A,C\vert B)$ calculated for a trapezoid configuration arising from boosted spacelike intervals $A$,$B$ and $C$. In this special case the variation of the discretized Nambu-Goto action leads to an equation for entanglement entropies in the boundary theory of the form of a Toda equation. For arbitrary $d$ the string world sheet patches are living in the modular slices of the entanglement wedge. They seem to provide some sort of tomography of the entanglement wedge where the patches are linked together by the interpolation ansatz, i.e. the discretized version of the equations of motion for the Nambu-Goto action.

Cluster algebraic description of entanglement patterns for the BTZ black hole

We study the thermal state of a two dimensional conformal field theory which is dual to the static BTZ black hole in the high temperature limit. After partitioning the boundary of the static BTZ slice into $N$ subsystems we show that there is an underlying $C_{N-1}$ cluster algebra encoding entanglement patterns of the thermal state. We also demonstrate that the polytope encapsulating such patterns in a geometric manner for a fixed $N$ is the cyclohedron ${\mathcal C}_{N-1}$. Alternatively these patterns of entanglement can be represented in the space of geodesics (kinematic space) in terms of a Zamolodchikov $Y$-system of $C_{N-1}$ type. The boundary condition for such an $Y$-system is featuring the entropy of the BTZ black hole.

Scanning space-time with patterns of entanglement

In the ${\rm AdS}_3/{\rm CFT}_2$ setup we elucidate how gauge invariant boundary patterns of entanglement of the CFT vacuum are encoded into the bulk via the coefficient dynamics of an $A_{N-3}$, $N\geq 4$ cluster algebra. In the static case this dynamics of encoding manifests itself in kinematic space, which is a copy of de Sitter space ${\rm dS}_2$, in a particularly instructive manner. For a choice of partition of the boundary into $N$ regions the patterns of entanglement, associated with conditional mutual informations of overlapping regions, are related to triangulations of geodesic $N$-gons. Such triangulations are then mapped to causal patterns in kinematic space. For a fixed $N$ the space of all causal patterns is related to the associahedron ${\mathcal K}^{N-3}$ an object well-known from previous studies on scattering amplitudes. On this space of causal patterns cluster dynamics acts by a recursion provided by a Zamolodchikov's $Y$-system of type $(A_{N-3},A_1)$. We observe that the space of causal patterns is equipped with a partial order, and is isomorphic to the Tamari lattice. The mutation of causal patterns can be encapsulated by a walk of $N-3$ particles interacting in a peculiar manner in the past light cone of a point of ${\rm dS}_2$.
