Constructible characters and canonical bases

We give closed formulas for all vectors of the canonical basis of a level 2 irreducible integrable representation of $U_v(sl_\infty)$. These formulas coincide at v=1 with Lusztig's formulas for the constructible characters of the Iwahori-Hecke algebras of type B and D.

Imaginary vectors in the dual canonical basis of $U_q(n)$

Let $n$ be the maximal nilpotent subalgebra of a simple complex Lie algebra $g$. We introduce the notion of imaginary vector in the dual canonical basis of $U_q(n)$, and we give examples of such vectors for types $A_n (n\ge 5)$, $B_n (n\ge 3)$, $C_n (n\ge 3)$, $D_n (n\ge 4)$, and all exceptional types. This disproves a conjecture of Berenstein and Zelevinsky about $q$-commuting products of vectors of the dual canonical basis. It also shows the existence of finite-dimensional irreducible representations of quantum affine algebras whose tensor square is not irreducible.

Some closed formulas for canonical bases of Fock spaces

We give some closed formulas for certain vectors of the canonical bases of the Fock space representation of U_v(sl^_n). As a result, a combinatorial description of certain parabolic Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials for affine type A is obtained.

Littlewood-Richardson coefficients and Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials

We show that the Littlewood-Richardson coefficients are values at 1 of certain parabolic Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials for affine symmetric groups. These q-analogues of Littlewood-Richardson multiplicities coincide with those previously introduced in terms of ribbon tableaux.

Decomposition numbers and canonical bases

We obtain some simple relations between decomposition numbers of quantized Schur algebras at an n-th root of unity (over a field of characteristic 0). These relations imply that every decomposition number for such an algebra occurs as a decomposition number for some Hecke algebra of type A. We prove similar relations between coefficients of the canonical basis of the q-deformed Fock space previously introduced in a joint work with Thibon. It follows that these coefficients can all be expressed in terms of those of the global crystal basis of the irreducible sub-representation generated by the vacuum vector. As a consequence, using works of Ariki and Varagnolo-Vasserot, it is possible to give a new proof of Lusztig's character formula for the simple U_v(sl_r)-modules at roots of unity, which does not involve representations of sl^_r of negative level.

RSOS models and Jantzen-Seitz representations of Hecke algebras at roots of unity

A special family of partitions occurs in two apparently unrelated contexts: the evaluation of 1-dimensional configuration sums of certain RSOS models, and the modular representation theory of symmetric groups or their Hecke algebras $H_m$. We provide an explanation of this coincidence by showing how the irreducible $H_m$-modules which remain irreducible under restriction to $H_{m-1}$ (Jantzen-Seitz modules) can be determined from the decomposition of a tensor product of representations of affine $\sl_n$.

Combinatorics of solvable lattice models, and modular representations of Hecke algebras

We review and motivate recently-observed relationships between exactly solvable lattice models and modular representations of Hecke algebras. Firstly, we describe how the set of $n$-regular partitions label both of the following classes of objects: 1. The spectrum of unrestricted solid-on-solid lattice models based on level-1 representations of the affine algebras $\sl_n$, 2. The irreducible representations of type-A Hecke algebras at roots of unity: $H_m(\sqrt[n]{1})$. Secondly, we show that a certain subset of the $n$-regular partitions label both of the following classes of objects: 1. The spectrum of restricted solid-on-solid lattice models based on cosets of affine algebras $(sl(n)^_1 \times sl(n)^_1)/ sl(n)^_2$. 2. Jantzen-Seitz (JS) representations of $H_m(\sqrt[n]{1})$: irreducible representations that remain irreducible under restriction to $H_{m-1}(\sqrt[n]{1})$. Using the above relationships, we characterise the JS representations of $H_m(\sqrt[n]{1})$ and show that the generating series that count them are branching functions of affine $\sl_n$.

Flag varieties and the Yang-Baxter equation

We investigate certain bases of Hecke algebras defined by means of the Yang-Baxter equation, which we call Yang-Baxter bases. These bases are essentially self-adjoint with respect to a canonical bilinear form. In the case of the degenerate Hecke algebra, we identify the coefficients in the expansion of the Yang-Baxter basis on the usual basis of the algebra with specializations of double Schubert polynomials. We also describe the expansions associated to other specializations of the generic Hecke algebra.

Canonical bases of q-deformed Fock spaces

We define a canonical basis of the $q$-deformed Fock space representation of the affine Lie algebra $\glchap_n$. We conjecture that the entries of the transition matrix between this basis and the natural basis of the Fock space are $q$-analogues of decomposition numbers of the $v$-Schur algebras for $v$ specialized to a $n$th root of unity.

Ribbon Tableaux, Hall-Littlewood Functions, Quantum Affine Algebras and Unipotent Varieties

We introduce a new family of symmetric functions, which are $q$-analogues of products of Schur functions defined in terms of ribbon tableaux. These functions can be interpreted in terms of the Fock space representation of the quantum affine algebra of type $A_{n-1}^{(1)}$ and are related to Hall-Littlewood functions via the geometry of flag varieties. We present a series of conjectures, and prove them in special cases. The essential step in proving that these functions are actually symmetric consists in the calculation of a basis of highest weight vectors of the $q$-Fock space using ribbon tableaux.
