Analytic result for the one-loop scalar pentagon integral with massless propagators

The method of dimensional recurrences proposed by one of the authors [1,2] is applied to the evaluation of the pentagon-type scalar integral with on-shell external legs and massless internal lines. For the first time, an analytic result valid for arbitrary space-time dimension d and five arbitrary kinematic variables is presented. An explicit expression in terms of the Appell hypergeometric function F_3 and the Gauss hypergeometric function_2F_1, both admitting one-fold integral representations, is given. In the case when one kinematic variable vanishes, the integral reduces to a combination of Gauss hypergeometric functions_2F_1. For the case when one scalar invariant is large compared to the others, the asymptotic values of the integral in terms of Gauss hypergeometric functions_2F_1 are presented in d = 2 - 2 epsilon, 4 - 2 epsilon, and 6 - 2 epsilon dimensions. For multi-Regge kinematics, the asymptotic value of the integral in d = 4 - 2 epsilon dimensions is given in terms of the Appell function F_3 and the Gauss hypergeometric function_2F_1.

Complete next-to-leading-order corrections to J/psi photoproduction in nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics

We calculate the cross section of inclusive direct J/psi photoproduction at next-to-leading order within the factorization formalism of nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics, for the first time including the full relativistic corrections due to the intermediate ^1S_0^[8], ^3S_1^[8], and ^3P_J^[8] color-octet states. A comparison of our results to recent H1 data suggests that the color octet mechanism is indeed realized in J/psi photoproduction, although the predictivity of our results still suffers from uncertainties in the color-octet long-distance matrix elements.

Functional equations for one-loop master integrals for heavy-quark production and Bhabha scattering

The method for obtaining functional equations, recently proposed by one of the authors, is applied to one-loop box integrals needed in calculations of radiative corrections to heavy-quark production and Bhabha scattering. We present relationships between these integrals with different arguments and box integrals with all propagators being massless. It turns out that functional equations are rather useful for finding imaginary parts and performing analytic continuations of Feynman integrals. For the box master integral needed in Bhabha scattering, a new representation in terms of hypergeometric functions admitting one-fold integral representation is derived. The hypergeometric representation of a master integral for heavy-quark production follows from the functional equation.

On-shell renormalization of the mixing matrices in Majorana neutrino theories

We generalize a recently proposed on-shell approach to renormalize the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark-mixing matrix to the case of an extended leptonic sector that includes Dirac and Majorana neutrinos in the framework of the seesaw mechanism. An important property of this formulation is the gauge independence of both the renormalized and bare lepton mixing matrices. Also, the texture zero in the neutrino mass matrix is preserved.

A Novel Formulation of Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa Matrix Renormalization

We present a gauge-independent quark mass counterterm for the on-shell renormalization of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix in the Standard Model that is directly expressed in terms of the Lorentz-invariant self-energy functions, and automatically satisfies the hermiticity constraints of the mass matrix. It is very convenient for practical applications and leads to a gauge-independent CKM counterterm matrix that preserves unitarity and satisfies other highly desirable theoretical properties, such as flavor democracy.

Inclusive production of heavy-flavored hadrons at NLO in the GM-VFNS

We summarize recent progress in the theoretical description of heavy-flavored-hadron inclusive production at next-to-leading order in the general-mass variable-flavor-number scheme. Specifically, we discuss the influence of finite-mass effects on the determination D-meson fragmentation functions from a global fit to e^+e^- annihilation data and on the transverse-momentum distribution of B-meson hadroproduction. We also demonstrate that the fixed-flavor-number scheme, implemented with up-to-date parton density functions and strong-coupling constant, provides a surprisingly good description of B-meson data from run II at the Fermilab Tevatron.

Two-Loop Electroweak Corrections to the A^0 gamma gamma and A^0 g g Couplings of the CP-Odd Higgs Boson

Using the asymptotic-expansion technique, we compute the dominant two-loop electroweak corrections, of O(G_F m_t^2), to production and decay via a pair of photons or gluons of the CP-odd Higgs boson A^0 in a two-Higgs-doublet model with low- to intermediate values of the Higgs-boson masses and ratio tan(beta)=v_2/v_1 of the vacuum expectation values. We also study the influence of a sequential heavy-fermion generation. The appearance of three gamma_5 matrices in closed fermion loops requires special care in the dimensional regularisation of ultraviolet divergences. The finite renormalisation constant for the pseudoscalar current effectively restoring the anticommutativity of the gamma_5 matrix, familiar from perturbative quantum chromodynamics, is found not to receive a correction in this order. We also revisit the dominant two-loop electroweak correction to the H -> gamma gamma decay width in the standard model with a fourth fermion generation.

Towards all-order Laurent expansion of generalized hypergeometric functions around rational values of parameters

We prove the following theorems: 1) The Laurent expansions in epsilon of the Gauss hypergeometric functions 2F1(I_1+a*epsilon, I_2+b*epsilon; I_3+p/q + c epsilon; z), 2F1(I_1+p/q+a*epsilon, I_2+p/q+b*epsilon; I_3+ p/q+c*epsilon;z), 2F1(I_1+p/q+a*epsilon, I_2+b*epsilon; I_3+p/q+c*epsilon;z), where I_1,I_2,I_3,p,q are arbitrary integers, a,b,c are arbitrary numbers and epsilon is an infinitesimal parameter, are expressible in terms of multiple polylogarithms of q-roots of unity with coefficients that are ratios of polynomials; 2) The Laurent expansion of the Gauss hypergeometric function 2F1(I_1+p/q+a*epsilon, I_2+b*epsilon; I_3+c*epsilon;z) is expressible in terms of multiple polylogarithms of q-roots of unity times powers of logarithm with coefficients that are ratios of polynomials; 3) The multiple inverse rational sums (see Eq. (2)) and the multiple rational sums (see Eq. (3)) are expressible in terms of multiple polylogarithms; 4) The generalized hypergeometric functions (see Eq. (4)) are expressible in terms of multiple polylogarithms with coefficients that are ratios of polynomials.

Dominant two-loop electroweak corrections to the hadroproduction of a pseudoscalar Higgs boson and its photonic decay

We present the dominant two-loop electroweak corrections to the partial decay widths to gluon jets and prompt photons of the neutral CP-odd Higgs boson A^0, with mass M_{A^0} < 2 M_W, in the two-Higgs-doublet model for low to intermediate values of the ratio tan(beta) = v_2/v_1 of the vacuum expectation values. They apply as they stand to the production cross sections in hadronic and two-photon collisions, at the Tevatron, the LHC, and a future photon collider. The appearance of three gamma_5 matrices in closed fermion loops requires special care in the dimensional regularization of ultraviolet divergences. The corrections are negative and amount to several percent, so that they fully compensate or partly screen the enhancement due to QCD corrections.

Heavy-quark contributions to the ratio F_L/F_2 at low x

We study the heavy-quark contribution to the proton structure functions F_2^i(x,Q^2) and F_L^i(x,Q^2), with i=c,b, for small values of Bjorken's x variable at next-to-lading order and provide compact formulas for their ratios R_i=F_L^i/F_2^i that are useful to extract F_2^i(x,Q^2) from measurements of the doubly differential cross section of inclusive deep-inelastic scattering at DESY HERA. Our approach naturally explains why R_i is approximately independent of x and the details of the parton distributions in the small-x regime.

Pole Mass, Width, and Propagators of Unstable Fermions

The concepts of pole mass and width are extended to unstable fermions in the general framework of parity-nonconserving gauge theories, such as the Standard Model. In contrast with the conventional on-shell definitions, these concepts are gauge independent and avoid severe unphysical singularities, properties of great importance since most fundamental fermions in nature are unstable particles. General expressions for the unrenormalized and renormalized dressed propagators of unstable fermions and their field-renormalization constants are presented.

O(G_F^2 m_t^4) two-loop electroweak correction to Higgs-boson decay to bottom quarks

We analytically calculate the dominant two-loop electroweak correction, of O(G_F^2 m_t^4), to the partial width of the decay of a Higgs boson, with mass M_H << m_t, into a bottom-quark pair, and describe the most important conceptual and technical details of our calculation. As a by-product of our analysis, we also recover the O(alpha_s G_F m_t^2) correction. Relative to the Born result, the O(G_F^2 m_t^4) correction turns out to be approximately +0.047% and, thus, more than compensates the O(alpha_s G_F m_t^2) one, which amounts to approximately -0.022%.

Simple On-Shell Renormalization Framework for the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa Matrix

We present an explicit on-shell framework to renormalize the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) quark mixing matrix at the one-loop level. It is based on a novel procedure to separate the external-leg mixing corrections into gauge-independent self-mass (sm) and gauge-dependent wave-function renormalization contributions, and to adjust non-diagonal mass counterterm matrices to cancel all the divergent sm contributions, and also their finite parts subject to constraints imposed by the hermiticity of the mass matrices. It is also shown that the proof of gauge independence and finiteness of the remaining one-loop corrections to W -> q_i + anti-q_j reduces to that in the unmixed, single-generation case. Diagonalization of the complete mass matrices leads then to an explicit expression for the CKM counterterm matrix, which is gauge independent, preserves unitarity, and leads to renormalized amplitudes that are non-singular in the limit in which any two fermions become mass degenerate.
