Identities between polynomials related to Stirling and harmonic numbers

We consider two types of polynomials $F_n (x) = \sum_{ν=1}^n ν! S_2(n,ν) x^ν$ and $\hat{F}_n (x) = \sum_{ν=1}^n ν! S_2(n,ν) H_νx^ν$, where $S_2(n,ν)$ are the Stirling numbers of the second kind and $H_ν$ are the harmonic numbers. We show some properties and relations between these polynomials. Especially, the identity $\hat{F}_n (-\tfrac{1}{2}) = - (n-1)/2 \cdot F_{n-1} (-\tfrac{1}{2})$ is established for even $n$, where the values are connected with Genocchi numbers. For odd $n$ the value of $\hat{F}_n (-\tfrac{1}{2})$ is given by a convolution of these numbers. Subsequently, we discuss some of these convolutions, which are connected with Miki type convolutions of Bernoulli and Genocchi numbers, and derive some 2-adic valuations of them.

On stronger conjectures that imply the Erdös-Moser conjecture

The Erdös-Moser conjecture states that the Diophantine equation $S_k(m) = m^k$, where $S_k(m)=1^k+2^k+...+(m-1)^k$, has no solution for positive integers $k$ and $m$ with $k \geq 2$. We show that stronger conjectures about consecutive values of the function $S_k$, that seem to be more naturally, imply the Erdös-Moser conjecture.

On asymptotic constants related to products of Bernoulli numbers and factorials

We discuss the asymptotic expansions of certain products of Bernoulli numbers and factorials, e.g., \[ \prod_{ν=1}^n |B_{2ν}| \quad \text{and} \quad \prod_{ν=1}^n (k ν)!^{ν^r} \quad \text{as} \quad n \to \infty \] for integers $k \geq 1$ and $r \geq 0$. Our main interest is to determine exact expressions, in terms of known constants, for the asymptotic constants of these expansions and to show some relations among them.

Classification of p-adic functions satisfying Kummer type congruences

We introduce $p$-adic Kummer spaces of continuous functions on $\mathbb{Z}_p$ that satisfy certain Kummer type congruences. We will classify these spaces and show their properties, for instance, ring properties and certain decompositions. As a result, these functions have always a fixed point, functions of certain subclasses have always a unique simple zero in $\mathbb{Z}_p$. The fixed points and the zeros are effectively computable by given algorithms. This theory can be transferred to values of Dirichlet $L$-functions at negative integer arguments. That leads to a conjecture about their structure supported by several computations. In particular we give an application to the classical Bernoulli and Euler numbers. Finally, we present a link to $p$-adic functions that are related to Fermat quotients.

On irregular prime power divisors of the Bernoulli numbers

Let $B_n$ ($n = 0, 1, 2, ...$) denote the usual $n$-th Bernoulli number. Let $l$ be a positive even integer where $l=12$ or $l \geq 16$. It is well known that the numerator of the reduced quotient $|B_l/l|$ is a product of powers of irregular primes. Let $(p,l)$ be an irregular pair with $B_l/l \not\equiv B_{l+p-1}/(l+p-1) \modp{p^2}$. We show that for every $r \geq 1$ the congruence $B_{m_r}/m_r \equiv 0 \modp{p^r}$ has a unique solution $m_r$ where $m_r \equiv l \modp{p-1}$ and $l \leq m_r < (p-1)p^{r-1}$. The sequence $(m_r)_{r \geq 1}$ defines a $p$-adic integer $χ_{(p, l)}$ which is a zero of a certain $p$-adic zeta function $ζ_{p, l}$ originally defined by T. Kubota and H. W. Leopoldt. We show some properties of these functions and give some applications. Subsequently we give several computations of the (truncated) $p$-adic expansion of $χ_{(p, l)}$ for irregular pairs $(p,l)$ with $p$ below 1000.

The structure of Bernoulli numbers

We conjecture that the structure of Bernoulli numbers can be explicitly given in the closed form $$ B_n = (-1)^{\frac{n}{2}-1} \prod_{p-1 \nmid n} |n|_p^{-1} \prod\limits_{(p,l)\inΨ^{\rm irr}_1 \atop n \equiv l \mods{p-1}} |p (χ_{(p,l)} - {\textstyle \frac{n-l}{p-1}})|_p^{-1} \prod\limits_{p-1 \mid n} p^{-1} $$ where the $χ_{(p,l)}$ are zeros of certain $p$-adic zeta functions and $Ψ^{\rm irr}_1$ is the set of irregular pairs. The more complicated but improbable case where the conjecture does not hold is also handled; we obtain an unconditional structural formula for Bernoulli numbers. Finally, applications are given which are related to classical results.

Some remarks on Kurepa's left factorial

We establish a connection between the subfactorial function S(n) and the left factorial function of Kurepa K(n). Some elementary properties and congruences of both functions are described. Finally, we give a calculated distribution of primes below 10000 of K(n).

The Equivalence of Giuga's and Agoh's Conjectures

In this paper we show the equivalence of the conjectures of Giuga and Agoh in a direct way which leads to a combined conjecture. This conjecture is described by a sum of fractions from which all conditions can be derived easily.
