Exotic Spinor Deformation of a Schwarzschild Black Hole: Perturbations and Stability

In this work we investigate how exotic spinorial topology modifies the propagation of fermionic modes in the Schwarzschild geometry. By incorporating a topological gradient, $\partial_μφ$, into the Dirac operator through a tetrad deformation, we show that the exotic spinorial sector naturally induces an effective geometric deformation of the Schwarzschild background. The central consequence of this construction is the emergence of a topological impedance surface at $\rtopo=1/q$, which suppresses the radial group velocity of the exotic spinorial modes, yielding a birefringent propagation pattern. Using a spinorial perturbation we discuss the greybody factor and the quasinormal response. The quasinormal spectrum shows the stability of the background metric and the absence of isospectrality for the superpartner potentials.

21-cm Brightness Temperature in a Unified-Dark-Sector Horndeski Theory

We investigate the impact of scalar-tensor theories on the 21cm brightness temperature. We consider a specific model in Horndeski scalar-tensor theory in which dark matter and dark energy in the framework of shift-symmetric generalized Galileon theories was described and an effective unified cosmic fluid was obtained. We calculate the Hubble parameter of the model and we plot the curve of the evolution of the 21-cm temperature in a specific range of the redshift parameter $z$ and compare it to the curve corresponding to $Λ$CDM paradigm.

Stability of the spacetime of a magnetized compact object

We investigate the stability of scalar perturbations around a magnetized stationary compact object in General Relativity. The considered object is one of the simplest exact solutions of Einstein electrovacuum equations corresponding to a spheroidal body endowed with a dipole magnetic moment. It is effectively constructed by imposing a perfect reflection (mirror) boundary condition on a central region of the Gutsunaev-Manko spacetime. A time-domain analysis of the perturbations reveals a quasinormal phase followed by a power-law decaying tail. Our findings suggest that the exterior region of the magnetized compact object is stable in the entire parameter space. Moreover, the system tends to become generically more stable the stronger the magnetization of the central object is. Such findings can be useful for the qualitative understanding of more realistic astrophysical situations involving highly magnetized sources.

NRPyCritCol & SFcollapse1D: an open-source, user-friendly toolkit to study critical phenomena

We present a new open-source, user-friendly toolkit of two codes$-$SFcollapse1D and NRPyCritCol$-$to study critical phenomena in the context of gravitational collapse. SFcollapse1D is a C/C++ tool designed to solve the problem of gravitational collapse of massless, spherically symmetric scalar fields with the ADM formalism in spherical-like coordinates. NRPyCritColis a collection of Python modules that leverage the NRPy+ infrastructure to generate a highly optimized C-code for evolving massless scalar fields within a covariant BSSN formalism. The toolkit was developed with user-friendliness and code efficiency in mind, enabling the exploration of critical phenomena with consumer-grade computers. We present a study of critical phenomena from the collapse of massless scalar fields in spherical symmetry, using only these two codes and a laptop computer.

Holographic quenches towards a Lifshitz point

We use the holographic duality to study quantum quenches of a strongly coupled CFT that drive the theory towards a non-relativistic fixed point with Lifshitz scaling. We consider the case of a Lifshitz dynamical exponent $z$ close to unity, where the non-relativistic field theory can be understood as a specific deformation of the corresponding CFT and, hence, the standard holographic dictionary can be applied. On the gravity side this amounts to finding a dynamical bulk solution which interpolates between AdS and Lishitz spacetimes as time evolves. We show that an asymptotically Lifshitz black hole is always formed in the final state. This indicates that it is impossible to reach the vacuum state of the Lifshitz theory from the CFT vacuum as a result of the proposed quenching mechanism. The nonequilibrium dynamics following the breaking of the relativistic scaling symmetry is also probed using both local and non-local observables. In particular, we conclude that the equilibration process happens in a top-down manner, i.e., the symmetry is broken faster for UV modes.

Holographic thermalization with a chemical potential from Born-Infeld electrodynamics

The problem of holographic thermalization in the framework of Einstein gravity coupled to Born-Infeld nonlinear electrodynamics is investigated. We use equal time two-point correlation functions and expectation values of Wilson loop operators in the boundary quantum field theory as probes of thermalization, which have dual gravity descriptions in terms of geodesic lengths and minimal area surfaces in the bulk spacetime. The full range of values of the chemical potential per temperature ratio on the boundary is explored. The numerical results show that the effect of the charge on the thermalization time is similar to the one obtained with Maxwell electrodynamics, namely the larger the charge the later thermalization occurs. The inverse Born-Infeld parameter, on the other hand, has the opposite effect: the more nonlinear the theory is, the sooner it thermalizes. We also study the thermalization velocity and how the parameters affect the phase transition point separating the thermalization process into an accelerating phase and a decelerating phase.

Massive Gravity with Anisotropic Scaling

We study a massive gravity theory which is Lorentz violating all the way from ultraviolet to infrared energy scales. At short distances the theory breaks diffeomorphism invariance and time and space scale differently. Dynamical metric fields are introduced which upon linearization over a Minkowski background correspond to Lorentz violating mass terms at large distances. We perform a scalar perturbation analysis and we show that with an appropriate choice of parameters the theory is healthy without ghosts, tachyons, strong coupling problems and instabilities

Stability Analysis and Area Spectrum of 3-Dimensional Lifshitz Black Holes

In this work, we probe the stability of a $z=3$ three-dimensional Lifshitz black hole by using scalar and spinorial perturbations. We found an analytical expression for the quasinormal frequencies of the scalar probe field, which perfectly agree with the behavior of the quasinormal modes obtained numerically. The results for the numerical analysis of the spinorial perturbations reinforce the conclusion of the scalar analysis, i.e., the model is stable under scalar and spinor perturbations. As an application we found the area spectrum of the Lifshitz black hole, which turns out to be equally spaced.

Kerr-Schild Method and Geodesic Structure in Codimension-2 Brane Black Holes

We consider the black hole solutions of five-dimensional gravity with a Gauss-Bonnet term in the bulk and an induced gravity term on a 2-brane of codimension-2. Applying the Kerr-Schild method we derive additional solutions which include charge and angular momentum. To improve our understanding of this geometry we study the geodesic structure of such spacetimes.

Black Holes on Thin 3-branes of Codimension-2 and their Extension into the Bulk

We discuss black hole solutions in six-dimensional gravity with a Gauss-Bonnet term in the bulk and an induced gravity term on a thin 3-brane of codimension-2. We show that these black holes can be localized on the brane, and they can further be extended into the bulk by a warp function. These solutions have regular horizons and no other curvature singularities appear apart from the string-like ones. The projection of the Gauss-Bonnet term on the brane imposes a constraint relation which requires the presence of matter in the extra dimensions.

The Need of Dark Energy for Dynamical Compactification of Extra Dimensions on the Brane

We consider a six-dimensional braneworld model and we study the cosmological evolution of a (4+1) brane-universe. Introducing matter on the brane we show that the scale factor of the physical three-dimensional brane-universe is related to the scale factor of the fourth dimension on the brane, and the suppression of the extra dimension compared to the three dimensions requires the presence of dark energy.

Shortcuts in Cosmological Branes

We aim at gathering information from gravitational interaction in the Universe, at energies where quantum gravity is required. In such a setup a dynamical membrane world in a space-time with scalar bulk matter described by domain walls, as well as a dynamical membrane world in empty Anti de Sitter space-time are analysed. We later investigate the possibility of having shortcuts for gravitons leaving the membrane and returning subsequently. In comparison with photons following a geodesic inside the brane, we verify that shortcuts exist. For late time universes they are small, but for some primordial universes they can be quite effective. In the case of matter branes, we argue that at times just before nucleosynthesis the effect is sufficiently large to provide corrections to the inflationary scenario, especially as concerning the horizon problem and the Cosmological Background Radiation.

Shortcuts in a Nonlinear Dynamical Braneworld in Six Dimensions

We consider a dynamical brane world in a six-dimensional spacetime containing a singularity. Using the Israel conditions we study the motion of a 4-brane embedded in this setup. We analyse the brane behaviour when its position is perturbed about a fixed point and solve the full nonlinear dynamics in the several possible scenarios. We also investigate the possible gravitational shortcuts and calculate the delay between graviton and photon signals and the ratio of the corresponding subtended horizons.

Shortcuts in Domain Walls and the Horizon Problem

We consider a dynamical membrane world in a space-time with scalar bulk matter described by domain walls. Using the solutions to Einstein field equations and Israel conditions we investigate the possibility of having shortcuts for gravitons leaving the wall and returning subsequently. As it turns out, they usually appear under mild conditions. In the comparison with photons following a geodesic inside the brane, we verify that shortcuts exist. For some Universes they are small, but there are cases where shortcuts are effective. In these cases we expect them to play a significant role in the solution of the horizon problem.

Shortcuts for Graviton Propagation in a Six Dimensional Brane World Model

We consider a six dimensional brane world model with asymmetric warp factors for time and both extra spatial coordinates, $y$ and $z$. We derive the set of differential equations governing the shortest graviton path and numerically solve it for AdS-Schwarzschild and AdS-Reissner-Nordström bulks. In both cases we derive a set of conditions for the existence of shortcuts in bulks with shielded singularities and show some examples of shortcuts obtained under these conditions. Consequences are discussed.
