$L^p$ improving multilinear Radon-like transforms

We characterize (up to endpoints) the $k$-tuples $(p_1,\ldots,p_k)$ for which certain $k$-linear generalized Radon transforms map $L^{p_1} \times \cdots \times L^{p_k}$ boundedly into $\mathbb R$. This generalizes a result of Tao and Wright.

Uniform $L^p$-improving for weighted averages on curves

We define variable parameter analogues of the affine arclength measure on curves and prove near-optimal $L^p$-improving estimates for associated multilinear generalized Radon transforms. Some of our results are new even in the convolution case.

Linear and bilinear restriction to certain rotationally symmetric hypersurfaces

Conditional on Fourier restriction estimates for elliptic hypersurfaces, we prove optimal restriction estimates for polynomial hypersurfaces of revolution for which the defining polynomial has non-negative coefficients. In particular, we obtain uniform--depending only on the dimension and polynomial degree--estimates for restriction with affine surface measure, slightly beyond the bilinear range. The main step in the proof of our linear result is an (unconditional) bilinear adjoint restriction estimate for pieces at different scales.

Scale invariant Fourier restriction to a hyperbolic surface

This result sharpens the bilinear to linear deduction of Lee and Vargas for extension estimates on the hyperbolic paraboloid in $\mathbb R^3$ to the sharp line, leading to the first scale-invariant restriction estimates, beyond the Stein--Tomas range, for a hypersurface on which the principal curvatures have different signs.

Linear profile decompositions for a family of fourth order Schrödinger equations

We establish linear profile decompositions for the fourth order Schrödinger equation and for certain fourth order perturbations of the Schrödinger equation, in dimensions greater than or equal to two. We apply these results to prove dichotomy results on the existence of extremizers for the associated Stein--Tomas/Strichartz inequalities; along the way, we also obtain lower bounds for the norms of these operators.

Some Problems in Harmonic Analysis

In May 2016, we organized a conference in harmonic analysis in honor of Professor Michael Christ, on the campus of the University of Wisconsin in Madison. We are happy to present sixteen open problems, almost all of which were contributed by participants of a problem session held in the afternoon of May 19, 2016.

Blowup behaviour for the nonlinear Klein--Gordon equation

We analyze the blowup behaviour of solutions to the focusing nonlinear Klein--Gordon equation in spatial dimensions $d\geq 2$. We obtain upper bounds on the blowup rate, both globally in space and in light cones. The results are sharp in the conformal and sub-conformal cases. The argument relies on Lyapunov functionals derived from the dilation identity. We also prove that the critical Sobolev norm diverges near the blowup time.

Uniform estimates for the X-ray transform restricted to polynomial curves

We establish near-optimal mixed-norm estimates for the X-ray transform restricted to polynomial curves with a weight that is a power of the affine arclength. The bounds that we establish depend only on the spatial dimension and the degree of the polynomial. Some of our results are new even in the well-curved case.

Scattering for the cubic Klein--Gordon equation in two space dimensions

We consider both the defocusing and focusing cubic nonlinear Klein--Gordon equations $$ u_{tt} - Δu + u \pm u^3 =0 $$ in two space dimensions for real-valued initial data $u(0)\in H^1_x$ and $u_t(0)\in L^2_x$. We show that in the defocusing case, solutions are global and have finite global $L^4_{t,x}$ spacetime bounds. In the focusing case, we characterize the dichotomy between this behaviour and blowup for initial data with energy less than that of the ground state. These results rely on analogous statements for the two-dimensional cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation, which are known in the defocusing case and for spherically-symmetric initial data in the focusing case. Thus, our results are mostly unconditional. It was previously shown by Nakanishi that spacetime bounds for Klein--Gordon equations imply the same for nonlinear Schrödinger equations.

Endpoint bounds for a generalized {R}adon transform

We prove that convolution with affine arclength measure on the curve parametrized by $h(t) := (t,t^2,...,t^n)$ is a bounded operator from $L^p(\mathbb{R}^n)$ to $L^q(\mathbb{R}^n)$ for the full conjectured range of exponents, improving on a result due to M. Christ. We also obtain nearly sharp Lorentz space bounds.
