Supersymmetry and Shape Invariance of exceptional orthogonal polynomials

We discuss the exceptional Laguerre and the exceptional Jacobi orthogonal polynomials in the framework of the supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SUSYQM). We express the differential equations for the Jacobi and the Laguerre exceptional orthogonal polynomials (EOP) as the eigenvalue equations and make an analogy with the time independent Schrödinger equation to define "Hamiltonians" enables us to study the EOPs in the framework of the SUSYQM and to realize the underlying shape invariance associated with such systems. We show that the underlying shape invariance symmetry is responsible for the solubility of the differential equations associated with these polynomials.

BFV quantization and BRST symmetries of the gauge invariant fourth-order Pais-Uhlenbeck oscillator

We perform the BFV-BRST quantization of the fourth-order Pais-Uhlenbeck oscillator (PUO). We show that although the PUO is not naturally constrained in the sense of Dirac-Bergmann, it is possible to profit from the introduction of suitable constraints in phase space in order to obtain a proper BRST invariant quantum system. Starting from its second-class constrained system description, we use the BFFT conversional approach to obtain first-class constraints as gauge symmetry generators. After the Abelianization of the constraints, we obtain the conserved BRST charge, the corresponding BRST transformations and proceed further to the BFV functional quantization of the model. We show that different possible gauge choices can be connected by finite field-dependent BRST transformations.

Locally finite free space as limiting case of PT-symmetric medium

We explicitly prove that the transfer matrix of a finite layered $PT$-symmetric system of fix length $L$ consisting of $N$ units of the potential system `$+iV$' and `$-iV$' of equal thickness becomes a unit matrix in the limit $N \rightarrow \infty$. This result is true for waves of arbitrary wave vector $k$. This shows that in this limit, the transmission coefficient is always unity while the reflection amplitude is zero for all waves traversing this length $L$. Therefore, a free space of finite length $L$ can be represented as a $PT$-symmetric medium.

Topological entanglement and hyperbolic volume

The entanglement entropy of many quantum systems is difficult to compute in general. They are obtained as a limiting case of the Rényi entropy of index $m$, which captures the higher moments of the reduced density matrix. In this work, we study pure bipartite states associated with $S^3$ complements of a two-component link which is a connected sum of a knot $\mathcal{K}$ and the Hopf link. For this class of links, the Chern-Simons theory provides the necessary setting to visualise the $m$-moment of the reduced density matrix as a three-manifold invariant $Z(M_{\mathcal{K}_m})$, which is the partition function of $M_{\mathcal{K}_m}$. Here $M_{\mathcal{K}_m}$ is a closed 3-manifold associated with the knot $\mathcal K_m$, where $\mathcal K_m$ is a connected sum of $m$-copies of $\mathcal{K}$ (i.e., $\mathcal{K}\#\mathcal{K}\ldots\#\mathcal{K}$) which mimics the well-known replica method. We analyse the partition functions $Z(M_{\mathcal{K}_m})$ for SU(2) and SO(3) gauge groups, in the limit of the large Chern-Simons coupling $k$. For SU(2) group, we show that $Z(M_{\mathcal{K}_m})$ can grow at most polynomially in $k$. On the contrary, we conjecture that $Z(M_{\mathcal{K}_m})$ for SO(3) group shows an exponential growth in $k$, where the leading term of $\ln Z(M_{\mathcal{K}_m})$ is the hyperbolic volume of the knot complement $S^3\backslash \mathcal{K}_m$. We further propose that the Rényi entropies associated with SO(3) group converge to a finite value in the large $k$ limit. We present some examples to validate our conjecture and proposal.

Eigenstate entanglement entropy in $PT$ invariant non-Hermitian system

Much has been learned about universal properties of the eigenstate entanglement entropy for one-dimensional lattice models, which is described by a Hermitian Hamiltonian. While very less of it has been understood for non-Hermitian systems. In the present work we study a non-Hermitian, non-interacting model of fermions which is invariant under combined $PT$ transformation. Our models show a phase transition from $PT$ unbroken phase to broken phase as we tune the hermiticity breaking parameter. Entanglement entropy of such systems can be defined in two different ways, depending on whether we consider only right (or equivalently only left) eigenstates or a combination of both left and right eigenstates which form a complete set of bi-orthonormal eigenstates. We demonstrate that the entanglement entropy of the ground state and also of the typical excited states show some unique features in both of these phases of the system. Most strikingly, entanglement entropy obtained taking a combination of both left and right eigenstates shows an exponential divergence with system size at the transition point. While in the $PT$-unbroken phase, the entanglement entropy obtained from only the right (or equivalently left) eigenstates shows identical behavior as of an equivalent Hermitian system which is connected to the non-Hermitian system by a similarity transformation.

General(ized) Hartman effect

In this letter we prove explicitly that if Hartman effect exists for an arbitrary `unit cell' potential, then it also exist for a periodic system constructed using the same `unit cell' potential repeatedly. We further show that if Hartman effect exists, the tunneling time in the limiting case of a sufficiently thick `unit cell' potential is same as that of its periodic system. This is true for any arbitrary value of the intervening gap between the consecutive `unit cell' of the periodic system. Thus generalized Hartman effect always occurs for a general potential constructed using multiple copies of single potential which shows Hartman effect.

One parameter family of rationally extended isospectral potentials

We start from a given one dimensional rationally extended potential associated with $X_m$ exceptional orthogonal polynomials and using the idea of supersymmetry in quantum mechanics, we obtain one continuous parameter ($λ$) family of rationally extended strictly isospectral potentials whose solutions are also associated with Xm exceptional orthogonal polynomials. We illustrate this construction by considering three well known rationally extended potentials, two with pure discrete spectrum (the extended radial oscillator and the extended Scarf-I) and one with both the discrete and the continuous spectrum (the extended generalized Poschl-Teller) and explicitly construct the corresponding one continuous parameter family of rationally extended strictly isospectral potentials. Further, in the special case of $λ= 0$ and $-1$, we obtain two new exactly solvable rationally extended potentials, namely the rationally extended Pursey and the rationally extended Abhrahm-Moses potentials respectively. We illustrate the whole procedure by discussing in detail the particular case of the $X_1$ rationally extended one parameter family of potentials including the corresponding Pursey and the Abraham Moses potentials.

Role of $PT$-symmetry in understanding Hartman effect

The celebrated Hartman effect, according to which, the tunneling time through a opaque barrier is independent of the width of the barrier for a sufficiently thick barrier, is not well understood theoretically and experimentally till today. In this work we attempt to through some light to understand the mystery behind this paradoxical result of tunneling .For this purpose we calculate the tunneling time from a layered non-Hermitian system to examine the effect of $PT$-symmetry over tunneling time. We explicitly find that for system respecting $PT$-symmetry, the tunneling time saturates with the thickness of the $PT$-symmetric barrier and thus shows the existence of Hartman effect. For non PT-symmetric case, the tunneling time depends upon the thickness of the barrier and Hartman effect is lost. We further consider the limiting case in which the non-Hermitian system reduces to the real barrier to show that the Hartman effect from a real barrier is due to $PT$-symmetry (of the corresponding non-Hermitian system) .

QES solutions of a two-dimensional system with quadratic nonlinearities

We consider a one parameter family of a PT symmetric two dimensional system with quadratic non-linearities. Such systems are shown to perform periodic oscillations due to existing centers. We describe this systems by constructing a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian of a particle with position dependent mass. We further construct a canonical transformation which maps this position dependent mass systems to a QES system. First few QES levels are calculated explicitly by using Bender-Dunne (BD) polynomial method.

Soft-Collinear Effective Theory: BRST Formulation

We provide a systematic BRST formalism for the soft-collinear effective theory describing interactions of soft and collinear degrees of freedom in the presence of a hard interaction. In particular, we develop full BRST symmetry transformation for SCET theory. We further extend the BRST formulation by making the transformation field dependent. This establishes a mapping between several SCET actions consistently when defined in different gauge conditions. In fact, a definite structure of gauge-fixed actions corresponding to any particular gauge condition can be generated for SCET theory using our formulation.

2-Loop $β$ Function for Non-Hermitian PT Symmetric $ιgϕ^3$ Theory

We investigate Non-Hermitian quantum field theoretic model with $ιgϕ^3$ interaction in 6 dimension. Such a model is PT-symmetric for the pseudo scalar field $ϕ$. We analytically calculate the 2-loop $β$ function and analyse the system using renormalization group technique. Behavior of the system is studied near the different fixed points. Unlike $gϕ^3$ theory in 6 dimension $ιgϕ^3$ theory develops a new non trivial fixed point which is energetically stable.

GUP corrections to Dirac oscillator in the external magnetic field

We have studied (2+1) dimensional Dirac oscillator (DO) in an external magnetic field in the framework of generalized uncertainty principle (GUP). We have calculated the perturbative corrections for first few energy levels. We show that the infinite degeneracy of lowest Landau level is partially lifted due to GUP correction and obtained a critical value of the magnetic field for which there is no GUP correction and the DO stops oscillating.

Self-similar features around spectral singularity in complex barrier potential

The spectral singularity (SS) from a non-Hermitian potential is one of the most remarkable scattering feature of non-Hermitian quantum mechanics. At the spectral singular point, the scattering amplitudes diverge to infinite. This phenomena have been extensively studied over the last two decades. The previous studies have suggested the need of extremely fine control of the various system parameters for practical applications of SS. However no study have been carried out to understand the behavior of the scattering amplitude in the vicinity of SS. Such study would be important towards the practical application of SS where it is desired to maintain outgoing scattering amplitude to a specific value. The behavior of the loci of constant scattering amplitude in the neighborhood of SS are studied for a pure imaginary barrier potential $iV$, $V \in R^{+}$. We show that these loci are elliptical and self-similar to each other in $E-V$ plane where $E$ is energy of the wave. The orientations of these ellipses for reflection ($R$) and transmission ($T$) amplitude around a given SS are same. This is surprising due to the different mathematical forms of $R$ and $T$. In the vicinity of SS, $R \approx T$.

Hartman effect from layered $PT$-symmetric system

The time taken by a wave packet to cross through a finite layered $PT$-symmetric system is calculated by stationary phase method. We consider the $PT$- symmetric system of fix spatial length $L$ consisting of $N$ units of the potential system `$+iV$' and `$-iV$' of equal width `$b$' such that $L=2Nb$. In the limit of large `$b$', the tunneling time is found to be independent of $L$ and therefore the layered $PT$-symmetric system display the Hartman effect. The interesting limit of $N \rightarrow \infty$ such that $L$ remains finite is investigated analytically. In this limit the tunneling time matches with the time taken to cross an empty space of length $L$. The result of this limiting case $N \rightarrow \infty$ also shows the consistency of phase space method of calculating the tunneling time despite the existence of controversial Hartman effect. The reason of Hartman effect is unknown to present day however the other definitions of tunneling time that indicate a delay which depends upon the length of traversing region have been effectively ruled out by recent attosecond measurements.

Deconfinement to Confinement as PT phase transition

We consider SU(N) QCD in a new quadratic gauge which highlights certain characteristic of the theory in the non-perturbative sector. By considering natural hermiticity property of the ghost fields we cast this model as non-Hermtian but symmetric under combined Parity (P) and Time reversal (T) transformations. We explicitly study the PT phase transition in this model. This is very first such study in the non-Hermitian gauge theory. The ghost fields condensate as a direct consequence of spontaneous breaking of PT symmetry. This leads to realize the transition from deconfined phase to confined phase as a PT phase transition in this system. The hidden C- symmetry in this system is identified as inner automorphism in this theory. Explicit representation is constructed for the C-symmetry.

Tunneling time from locally periodic potential in space fractional quantum mechanics

We calculate the time taken by a wave packet to travel through a classically forbidden locally periodic rectangular potential in space fractional quantum mechanics (SFQM). We obtain the close form expression of tunneling time from such a potential by stationary phase method. We show that tunneling time depends upon the width $b$ of the single barrier and separation $L$ between the barriers in the limit $b \to \infty$ and therefore generalized Hartman effect doesn't exist in SFQM. We observe that in SFQM, the tunneling time for large $b$ in the case of locally periodic potential is smaller than the tunneling from a single barrier of the same width $b$. It is further shown that with the increase in barrier numbers, the tunneling time reduces in SFQM in the limit of large $b$.

New scattering features of quaternionic point interaction in non-Hermitian quantum mechanics

The spectral singularity have been extensively studied over the last one and half decade for different non-Hermitian potentials in non-Hermitian quantum mechanics. The nature of spectral singularities have not been studied for the case of quaternionic potential. In the present work we perform an analytical study for the scattering from a quaternionic point interaction represented by delta function. New features of spectral singularities are observed which are different than the case of complex (non-quaternionic) point interaction. Most notable difference is the occurrence of spectral singularity from lossy point interaction which is forbidden in the case of standard non-Hermitian quantum mechanics.

Conformal to Harmonic Gauge for Bosonic Strings

We consider Polyakov theory of Bosonic strings in conformal gauge which are used to study conformal anomaly. However it exhibits ghost number anomaly. We show how this anomaly can be avoided by connecting this theory to that of in background covariant harmonic gauge which is known to be free from conformal and ghost number current anomaly, by using suitably constructed finite field dependent BRST transformation.
