An asymptotic expansion for a Lambert series associated to Siegel cusp forms

In 2000, Hafner and Stopple proved a conjecture of Zagier which states that the constant term of the automorphic function $|Δ(x+iy)|^2$ i.e., the Lambert series $\sum_{n=1}^\infty τ(n)^2 e^{-4 πn y}$ can be expressed in terms of the non-trivial zeros of the Riemann zeta function. In this article, we study a certain Lambert series associated to Siegel cusp forms and observe a similar phenomenon.

Bressoud-Subbarao type weighted partition identities for a generalized divisor function

In 1984, Bressoud and Subbarao obtained an interesting weighted partition identity for a generalized divisor function, by means of combinatorial arguments. Recently, the last three named authors found an analytic proof of the aforementioned identity of Bressoud and Subbarao starting from a $q$-series identity of Ramanujan. In the present paper, we revisit the combinatorial arguments of Bressoud and Subbarao, and derive a more general weighted partition identity. Furthermore, with the help of a fractional differential operator, we establish a few more Bressoud-Subbarao type weighted partition identities beginning from an identity of Andrews, Garvan and Liang. We also found a one-variable generalization of an identity of Uchimura related to Bell polynomials.

Hardy-Littlewood-Riesz type equivalent criteria for the Generalized Riemann hypothesis

In the present paper, we prove that the generalized Riemann hypothesis for the Dirichlet $L$-function $L(s,χ)$ is equivalent to the following bound: Let $k \geq 1$ and $\ell$ be positive real numbers. For any $ε>0$, we have \begin{align*} \sum_{n=1}^{\infty} \frac{χ(n) μ(n)}{n^{k}} \exp \left(- \frac{ x}{n^{\ell}}\right) = O_{ε,k,\ell} \bigg(x^{-\frac{k}{\ell}+\frac{1}{2 \ell} + ε}\bigg), \quad \mathrm{as}\,\, x \rightarrow \infty, \end{align*} where $χ$ is a primitive Dirichlet character modulo $q$, and $μ(n)$ denotes the Möbius function. This bound generalizes the previous bounds given by Riesz, and Hardy-Littlewood.

A new generalization of the minimal excludant arising from an analogue of Franklin's identity

Euler's classical identity states that the number of partitions of an integer into odd parts and distinct parts are equinumerous. Franklin gave a generalization by considering partitions with exactly $j$ different multiples of $r$, for a positive integer $r$. We prove an analogue of Franklin's identity by studying the number of partitions with $j$ multiples of $r$ in total and in the process, discover a natural generalization of the minimal excludant (mex) which we call the $r$-chain mex. Further, we derive the generating function for $σ_{rc} \textup{mex}(n)$, the sum of $r$-chain mex taken over all partitions of $n$, thereby deducing a combinatorial identity for $σ_{rc} \textup{mex}(n)$, which neatly generalizes the result of Andrews and Newman for $σ\textup{mex}(n)$, the sum of mex over all partitions of $n$.

Minimal excludant over partitions into distinct parts

The average size of the "smallest gap" of a partition was studied by Grabner and Knopfmacher in 2006. Recently, Andrews and Newman, motivated by the work of Fraenkel and Peled, studied the concept of the "smallest gap" under the name "minimal excludant" of a partition and rediscovered a result of Grabner and Knopfmacher. In the present paper, we study the sum of the minimal excludants over partitions into distinct parts, and interestingly we observe that it has a nice connection with Ramanujan's function $σ(q)$. As an application, we derive a stronger version of a result of Uncu.

Riesz-type criteria for the Riemann hypothesis

In 1916, Riesz proved that the Riemann hypothesis is equivalent to the bound $\sum_{n=1}^\infty \frac{μ(n)}{n^2} \exp\left( - \frac{x}{n^2} \right) = O_ε \left( x^{-\frac{3}{4} + ε} \right)$, as $x \rightarrow\infty$, for any $ε>0$. Around the same time, Hardy and Littlewood gave another equivalent criteria for the Riemann hypothesis while correcting an identity of Ramanujan. In the present paper, we establish a one-variable generalization of the identity of Hardy and Littlewood and as an application, we provide Riesz-type criteria for the Riemann hypothesis. In particular, we obtain the bound given by Riesz as well as the bound of Hardy and Littlewood.

A new Ramanujan-type identity for $L(2k+1,χ_1)$

One of the celebrated formulas of Ramanujan is about odd zeta values, which has been studied by many mathematicians over the years. A notable extension was given by Grosswald in 1972. Following Ramanujan's idea, we rediscovered a Ramanujan-type identity for $ζ(2k+1)$ that was first established by Malurkar and later by Berndt using different techniques. In the current paper, we extend the aforementioned identity of Malurkar and Berndt to derive a new Ramanujan-type identity for $L(2k+1, χ_1)$, where $χ_1$ is the principal character modulo prime $p$. In the process, we encounter a new family of Ramanujan-type polynomials and we notice that a particular case of these polynomials has been studied by Lalín and Rogers in 2013. Furthermore, we establish a character analogue of Grosswald's identity and a few more interesting results inspired from the work of Gun, Murty and Rath.

An asymptotic expansion for a twisted Lambert series associated to a cusp form and the Möbius function: level aspect

Recently, Juyal, Maji, and Sathyanarayana have studied a Lambert series associated with a cusp form over the full modular group and the Möbius function. In this paper, we investigate the Lambert series $\sum_{n=1}^{\infty}[a_f(n)ψ(n)*μ(n)ψ'(n)]\exp(-ny),$ where $a_f(n)$ is the $n$th Fourier coefficient of a cusp form $f$ over any congruence subgroup, and $ψ$ and $ ψ'$ are primitive Dirichlet characters. This extends the earlier work to the case of higher level subgroups and also gives a character analogue.

On Ramanujan's formula for $ζ(1/2)$ and $ζ(2m+1)$

Page 332 of Ramanujan's Lost Notebook contains a compelling identity for $ζ(1/2)$, which has been studied by many mathematicians over the years. On the same page, Ramanujan also recorded the series, \begin{align*} \frac{1^r}{\exp(1^s x) - 1} + \frac{2^r}{\exp(2^s x) - 1} + \frac{3^r}{\exp(3^s x) - 1} + \cdots, \end{align*} where $s$ is a positive integer and $r-s$ is any even integer. Unfortunately, Ramanujan doesn't give any formula for it. This series was rediscovered by Kanemitsu, Tanigawa, and Yoshimoto, although they studied it only when $r-s$ is a negative even integer. Recently, Dixit and the second author generalized the work of Kanemitsu et al. and obtained a transformation formula for the aforementioned series with $r-s$ is any even integer. While extending the work of Kanemitsu et al., Dixit and the second author obtained a beautiful generalization of Ramanujan's formula for odd zeta values. In the current paper, we investigate transformation formulas for an infinite series, and interestingly, we derive Ramanujan's formula for $ζ(1/2)$, Wigert's formula for $ζ(1/k)$ as well as Ramanujan's formula for $ζ(2m+1)$. Furthermore, we obtain a new identity for $ζ(-1/2)$ in the spirit of Ramanujan.

An asymptotic expansion for a Lambert series associated to the symmetric square $L$-function

Hafner and Stopple proved a conjecture of Zagier, that the inverse Mellin transform of the symmetric square $L$-function associated to the Ramanujan tau function has an asymptotic expansion in terms of the non-trivial zeros of the Riemann zeta function $ζ(s)$. Later, Chakraborty, Kanemitsu and the second author extended this phenomenon for any Hecke eigenform over the full modular group. In this paper, we study an asymptotic expansion of the Lambert series \begin{equation*} y^k \sum_{n=1}^\infty λ_{f}( n^2 ) \exp (- ny), \quad \textrm{as}\,\, y \rightarrow 0^{+}, \end{equation*} where $λ_f(n)$ is the $n$th Fourier coefficient of a Hecke eigen form $f(z)$ of weight $k$ over the full modular group.

Generalization of five q-series identities of Ramanujan and unexplored weighted partition identities

Ramanujan recorded five interesting q-series identities in a section that is not as systematically arranged as the other chapters of his second notebook. These five identities do not seem to have acquired enough attention. Recently, Dixit and the third author found a one-variable generalization of one of the aforementioned five identities. From their generalized identity, they were able to derive the last three of these q-series identities, but didn't establish the first two. In the present article, we derive a one-variable generalization of the main identity of Dixit and the third author from which we successfully deduce all the five q-series identities of Ramanujan. In addition to this, we also establish a few interesting weighted partition identities from our generalized identity. In the mid 1980's, Bressoud and Subbarao found an interesting identity connecting the generalized divisor function with a weighted partition function, which they proved by means of a purely combinatorial argument. Quite surprisingly, we found an analytic proof for a generalization of the identity of Bressoud and Subbarao, starting from the fourth identity of the aforementioned five q-series identities of Ramanujan.

An inequality between finite analogues of rank and crank moments

The inequality between rank and crank moments was conjectured and later proved by Garvan himself in 2011. Recently, Dixit and the authors introduced finite analogues of rank and crank moments for vector partitions while deriving a finite analogue of Andrews' famous identity for smallest parts function. In the same paper, they also conjectured an inequality between finite analogues of rank and crank moments, analogous to Garvan's conjecture. In the present paper, we give a proof of this conjecture.

Untrodden pathways in the theory of the restricted partition function $p(n, N)$

We obtain a finite analogue of a recent generalization of an identity in Ramanujan's Notebooks. Differentiating it with respect to one of the parameters leads to a result whose limiting case gives a finite analogue of Andrews' famous identity for $\textup{spt}(n)$. The latter motivates us to extend the theory of the restricted partition function $p(n, N)$, namely, the number of partitions of $n$ with largest parts less than or equal to $N$, by obtaining the finite analogues of rank and crank for vector partitions as well as of the rank and crank moments. As an application of the identity for our finite analogue of the spt-function, namely $\textup{spt}(n, N)$, we prove an inequality between the finite second rank and crank moments. The other results obtained include finite analogues of a recent identity of Garvan, an identity relating $d(n, N)$ and lpt$(n, N)$, namely the finite analogues of the divisor and largest parts functions respectively, and a finite analogue of the Beck-Chern theorem. We also conjecture an inequality between the finite analogues of $k^{\textup{th}}$ rank and crank moments.

Partition implications of a new three parameter $q$-series identity

A generalization of a beautiful $q$-series identity found in the unorganized portion of Ramanujan's second and third notebooks is obtained. As a consequence, we derive a new three-parameter identity which is a rich source of partition-theoretic information. In particular, we use this identity to obtain a generalization of a recent result of Andrews, Garvan and Liang, which itself generalizes the famous result of Fokkink, Fokkink and Wang. This three-parameter identity also leads to several new weighted partition identities as well as a natural proof of a recent result of Garvan. This natural proof gives interesting number-theoretic information along the way. We also obtain a new result consisting of an infinite series involving a special case of Fine's function $F(a,b;t)$, namely, $F(0,q^n;cq^n)$. For $c=1$, this gives Andrews' famous identity for $\mathrm{spt}(n)$ whereas for $c=-1, 0$ and $q$, it unravels new relations that the divisor function $d(n)$ has with other partition-theoretic functions such as the largest parts function $\mathrm{lpt}(n)$.

Generalized Lambert series and arithmetic nature of odd zeta values

It is pointed out that the generalized Lambert series $\displaystyle\sum_{n=1}^{\infty}\frac{n^{N-2h}}{e^{n^{N}x}-1}$ studied by Kanemitsu, Tanigawa and Yoshimoto can be found on page $332$ of Ramanujan's Lost Notebook in a slightly more general form. We extend an important transformation of this series obtained by Kanemitsu, Tanigawa and Yoshimoto by removing restrictions on the parameters $N$ and $h$ that they impose. From our extension we deduce a beautiful new generalization of Ramanujan's famous formula for odd zeta values which, for $N$ odd and $m>0$, gives a relation between $ζ(2m+1)$ and $ζ(2Nm+1)$. A result complementary to the aforementioned generalization is obtained for any even $N$ and $m\in\mathbb{Z}$. It generalizes a transformation of Wigert and can be regarded as a formula for $ζ\left(2m+1-\frac{1}{N}\right)$. Applications of these transformations include a generalization of the transformation for the logarithm of Dedekind eta-function $η(z)$, Zudilin- and Rivoal-type results on transcendence of certain values, and a transcendence criterion for Euler's constant $γ$.

Generalized Lambert series, Raabe's integral and a two-parameter generalization of Ramanujan's formula for $ζ(2m+1)$

A comprehensive study of the generalized Lambert series $\displaystyle\sum_{n=1}^{\infty}\frac{n^{N-2h}\exp{(-an^{N}x)}}{1-\exp{(-n^{N}x)}}, 0 0$, $N\in\mathbb{N}$ and $h\in\mathbb{Z}$, is undertaken. Two of the general transformations of this series that we obtain here lead to two-parameter generalizations of Ramanujan's famous formula for $ζ(2m+1)$, $m>0$ and the transformation formula for $\logη(z)$. Numerous important special cases of our transformations are derived. An identity relating $ζ(2N+1), ζ(4N+1),\cdots, ζ(2Nm+1)$ is obtained for $N$ odd and $m\in\mathbb{N}$. Certain transcendence results of Zudilin- and Rivoal-type are obtained for odd zeta values and generalized Lambert series. A criterion for transcendence of $ζ(2m+1)$ and a Zudilin-type result on irrationality of Euler's constant $γ$ are also given. New results analogous to those of Ramanujan and Klusch for $N$ even, and a transcendence result involving $ζ\left(2m+1-\frac{1}{N}\right)$, are obtained.

Zeros of combinations of the Riemann $Ξ$-function and the confluent hypergeometric function on bounded vertical shifts

In 1914, Hardy proved that infinitely many non-trivial zeros of the Riemann zeta function lie on the critical line using the transformation formula of the Jacobi theta function. Recently the first author obtained an integral representation involving the Riemann $Ξ$-function and the confluent hypergeometric function linked to the general theta transformation. Using this result, we show that a series consisting of bounded vertical shifts of a product of the Riemann $Ξ$-function and the real part of a confluent hypergeometric function has infinitely many zeros on the critical line, thereby generalizing a previous result due to the first and the last authors along with Roy and Robles. The latter itself is a generalization of Hardy's theorem.

Origin of giant magnetoresistance across the martensitic transformation for Ni44Cu2Mn43In11 alloy: Formation of phase fraction

We have studied the phase volume fraction related magnetoresistance (MR) across the first order martensite transformation (MT) of Ni44Cu2Mn43In11 alloy. Within the metastability of MT, an isothermal application of magnetic field converts the martensite into austenite. The field induced austenite phase fraction (fIA) at any temperature depends on the availability and instability of martensite phase fraction (fM ) at that temperature. This fIA is found to contribute most significantly to the observed giant MR while the contribution from pure martensite and austenite phase fraction is negligible. It is found that the net MR follows a non linear proportional relation with the fIA and the ascending and descending branch of fIA follows different power law giving rise to hysteresis in MR. Here we present a detail explanation of the observed behaviours of MR based on the existing phase fraction.
