Hawking Radiation due to Photon and Gravitino Tunneling

Applying the Hamilton--Jacobi method we investigate the tunneling of photon across the event horizon of a static spherically symmetric black hole. The necessity of the gauge condition on the photon field, to derive the semiclassical Hawking temperature, is explicitly shown. Also, the tunneling of photon and gravitino beyond this semiclassical approximation are presented separately. Quantum corrections of the action for both cases are found to be proportional to the semiclassical contribution. Modifications to the Hawking temperature and Bekenstein-Hawking area law are thereby obtained. Using this corrected temperature and Hawking's periodicity argument, the modified metric for the Schwarzschild black hole is given. This corrected version of the metric, upto $\hbar$ order is equivalent to the metric obtained by including one loop back reaction effect. Finally, the coefficient of the leading order correction of entropy is shown to be related to the trace anomaly.

Statistical Origin of Gravity

Starting from the definition of entropy used in statistical mechanics we show that it is proportional to the gravity action. For a stationary black hole this entropy is expressed as $S = E/ 2T$, where $T$ is the Hawking temperature and $E$ is shown to be the Komar energy. This relation is also compatible with the generalised Smarr formula for mass.

Quantum tunneling and black hole spectroscopy

The entropy-area spectrum of a black hole has been a long-standing and unsolved problem. Based on a recent methodology introduced by two of the authors, for the black hole radiation (Hawking effect) as tunneling effect, we obtain the entropy spectrum of a black hole. In Einstein's gravity, we show that both entropy and area spectrum are evenly spaced. But in more general theories (like Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity), although the entropy spectrum is equispaced, the corresponding area spectrum is not.

Hawking radiation and black hole spectroscopy in Horava-Lifshitz gravity

Hawking radiation from the black hole in Horava-Lifshitz gravity is discussed by a reformulation of the tunneling method given in \cite{Banerjee:2008sn}. Using a density matrix technique the radiation spectrum is derived which is identical to that of a perfect black body. The temperature obtained here is proportional to the surface gravity of the black hole as occurs in usual Einstein gravity. The entropy is also derived by using the first law of black hole thermodynamics. Finally, the spectrum of entropy/area is obtained. The latter result is also discussed from the viewpoint of quasi-normal modes. Both methods lead to an equispaced entropy spectrum, although the value of the spacing is not the same. On the other hand, since the entropy is not proportional to the horizon area of the black hole, the area spectrum is not equidistant, a finding which also holds for the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory.

Hawking black body spectrum from tunneling mechanism

We obtain, using a reformulation of the tunneling mechanism, the Hawking black body spectrum with the appropriate temperature for a black hole. This is a new result in the tunneling formalism of discussing Hawking effect. Our results are given for a spherically symmetric geometry that is asymptotically flat.

Quantum Tunneling and Trace Anomaly

We compute the corrections, using the tunneling formalisim based on a quantum WKB approach, to the Hawking temperature and Bekenstein-Hawking entropy for the Schwarzschild black hole. The results are related to the trace anomaly and are shown to be equivalent to findings inferred from Hawking's original calculation based on path integrals using zeta function regularization. Finally, exploiting the corrected temperature and periodicity arguments we also find the modification to the original Schwarzschild metric which captures the effect of quantum corrections.

Noncommutative Schwarzschild Black Hole and Area Law

Using a graphical analysis, we show that for the horizon radius $r_h\gtrsim 4.8\sqrtθ$, the standard semiclassical Bekenstein-Hawking area law for noncommutative Schwarzschild black hole exactly holds for all orders of $θ$. We also give the corrections to the area law to get the exact nature of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy when $r_h<4.8\sqrtθ$ till the extremal point $r_h=3.0\sqrtθ$.

Connecting anomaly and tunneling methods for Hawking effect through chirality

The role of chirality is discussed in unifying the anomaly and the tunneling formalisms for deriving the Hawking effect. Using the chirality condition and starting from the familiar form of the trace anomaly, the chiral (gravitational) anomaly, manifested as a nonconservation of the stress tensor, near the horizon of a black hole, is derived. Solution of this equation yields the stress tensor whose asymptotic infinity limit gives the Hawking flux. Finally, use of the same chirality condition in the tunneling formalism gives the Hawking temperature that is compatible with the flux obtained by anomaly method.

Fermion Tunneling Beyond Semiclassical Approximation

Applying the Hamilton-Jacobi method beyond the semiclassical approximation prescribed in \cite{Majhi3} for the scalar particle, Hawking radiation as tunneling of Dirac particle through an event horizon is analysed. We show that, as before, all quantum corrections in the single particle action are proportional to the usual semiclassical contribution. We also compute the modifications to the Hawking temperature and Bekenstein-Hawking entropy for the Schwarzschild black hole. Finally, the coefficient of the logarithmic correction to entropy is shown to be related with the trace anomaly.

Corrections to Unruh effect in tunneling formalism and mapping with Hawking effect

We consider coordinate systems adapted to accelerated observers, construct a generalised Rindler metric and then adopt a specific form of it to compute the semiclassical Unruh temperature, using a WKB approximation within a Hamilton Jacobi analysis in the tunneling picture. Corrections to this temperature are next computed by going beyond the usual WKB approximation. A connection of the corrected Unruh temperature with the Hawking temperature is established. This connection is also explained through the method of Global Embedding Minkowski Spacetime (GEMS).

Quantum Tunneling Beyond Semiclassical Approximation

Hawking radiation as tunneling by Hamilton-Jacobi method beyond semiclassical approximation is analysed. We compute all quantum corrections in the single particle action revealing that these are proportional to the usual semiclassical contribution. We show that a simple choice of the proportionality constants reproduces the one loop back reaction effect in the spacetime, found by conformal field theory methods, which modifies the Hawking temperature of the black hole. Using the law of black hole mechanics we give the corrections to the Bekenstein-Hawking area law following from the modified Hawking temperature. Some examples are explicitly worked out.

Noncommutative Black Hole Thermodynamics

We give a general derivation, for any static spherically symmetric metric, of the relation $T_h=\frac{\cal K}{2π}$ connecting the black hole temperature ($T_h$) with the surface gravity ($\cal K$), following the tunneling interpretation of Hawking radiation. This derivation is valid even beyond the semi classical regime i. e. when quantum effects are not negligible. The formalism is then applied to a spherically symmetric, stationary noncommutative Schwarzschild space time. The effects of back reaction are also included. For such a black hole the Hawking temperature is computed in a closed form. A graphical analysis reveals interesting features regarding the variation of the Hawking temperature (including corrections due to noncommutativity and back reaction) with the small radius of the black hole. The entropy and tunneling rate valid for the leading order in the noncommutative parameter are calculated. We also show that the noncommutative Bekenstein-Hawking area law has the same functional form as the usual one.

Quantum Tunneling and Back Reaction

We give a correction to the tunneling probability by taking into account the back reaction effect to the metric of the black hole spacetime. We then show how this gives rise to the modifications in the semiclassical black hole entropy and Hawking temperature. Finally, we reproduce the familiar logarithmic correction to the Bekenstein-Hawking area law.

Crypto-Harmonic Oscillator in Higher Dimensions: Classical and Quantum Aspects

We study complexified Harmonic Oscillator models in two and three dimensions. Our work is a generalization of the work of Smilga \cite{sm} who initiated the study of these Crypto-gauge invariant models that can be related to $PT$-symmetric models. We show that rotational symmetry in higher spatial dimensions naturally introduces more constraints, (in contrast to \cite{sm} where one deals with a single constraint), with a much richer constraint structure. Some common as well as distinct features in the study of the same Crypto-oscillator in different dimensions are revealed. We also quantize the two dimensional Crypto-oscillator.

Gauge Theories on A(dS) space and Killing Vectors

We provide a general technique for collectively analysing a manifestly covariant formulation of non-abelian gauge theories on both anti de Sitter as well as de Sitter spaces. This is done by stereographically projecting the corresponding theories, defined on a flat Minkowski space, onto the surface of the A(dS) hyperboloid. The gauge and matter fields in the two descriptions are mapped by conformal Killing vectors and conformal Killing spinors, respectively. A bilinear map connecting the spinors with the vector is established. Different forms of gauge fixing conditions and their equivalence are discussed. The U(1) axial anomaly as well as the non-abelian covariant and consistent chiral anomalies on A(dS) space are obtained. Electric-magnetic duality is demonstrated. The zero curvature limit is shown to yield consistent findings.
