Analytical Representation for the Electronic Contribution of the Nuclear Schiff Interaction Hamiltonian

The nuclear Schiff interaction (NSI) arises from a nuclear force that simultaneously violates spatial parity (P) and time reversal (T) symmetries, where T symmetry is equivalent to CP symmetry under CPT invariance. Detecting the NSI experimentally is important because CP violation is critical for explaining why the amount of matter in the Universe is far greater than that of antimatter. Measuring the NSI in molecules requires both precise experiments and theoretical calculations that incorporate electronic and nuclear wavefunctions. Conventionally, the electronic terms have been approximated using a first-order power series expansion of the electronic radial function-an approach that yields the well-known nuclear Schiff moment (NSM) -but this approximation may not be sufficiently accurate. In this study, we introduce a new, accurate analytical expression for the electronic terms based on Gaussian basis sets, which avoids any truncation of the power series. We find that the previous numerical approach overestimates the values for RaO and LrF by more than 50% and 300%, respectively, in the nuclear-radius region. In contrast to the numerical calculations, the analytical expression-based calculations show less sensitivity to choice of the basis-functions. Furthermore, we develop a new basis set that describes accurate behavior of wave functions both interior and exterior regions of nucleus. It also demonstrates that an even-tempered basis set is more preferrable over energy optimized basis set for calculating the NSI electronic term in molecules.

CP violating effects in $^{210}$Fr and prospects for new physics beyond the Standard Model

We report theoretical results of the electric dipole moment (EDM) of $^{210}$Fr which arises from the interaction of the EDM of an electron with the internal electric field in an atom and the scalar-pseudoscalar electron-nucleus interaction; the two dominant sources of CP violation in this atom. Employing the relativistic coupled-cluster theory, we evaluate the enhancement factors for these two CP violating interactions to an accuracy of about 3% and analyze the contributions of the many-body effects. These two quantities in combination with the projected sensitivity of the $^{210}$Fr EDM experiment provide constraints on new physics beyond the Standard Model. Particularly, we demonstrate that their precise values are necessary to account for the effect of the bottom quark in models in which the Higgs sector is augmented by nonstandard Yukawa interactions such as the two-Higgs doublet model.

Effect of Piezoelectric Polarization on Phonon group velocity in Wurtzite Nitrides

We have investigated the effect of piezoelectric (PZ) polarization property on group velocity of phonons in binary as well as in ternary wurtzite nitrides. It is found that with the presence of PZ polarization property, the phonon group velocity is modified. The change in phonon group velocity due to PZ polarization effect directly depends on piezoelectric tensor value. Using different piezoelectric tensor values recommended by different workers in the literature, percent change in group velocities of phonons has been estimated. The Debye temperatures and frequencies of binary nitrides GaN, AlN and InN are also calculated using the modified group velocities. For ternary nitrides AlxGa(1-x)N, InxGa(1-x)N and InxAl(1-x)N, the phonon group velocities have been calculated as a functions of composition. A small positive bowing is observed in phonon group velocities of ternary alloys. Percent variations in phonon group velocities are also calculated for a straightforward comparison among ternary nitrides. The results are expected to show a change in phonon relaxation rates and thermal conductivity of III-nitrides when piezoelectric polarization property is taken into account.
