Non-commutative Geometry Modified Non-Gaussianities of Cosmological Perturbation

We investigate the noncommutative effect on the non-Gaussianities of primordial cosmological perturbation. In the lowest order of string length and slow-roll parameter, we find that in the models with small speed of sound the noncommutative modifications could be observable if assuming a relatively low string scale. In particular, the dominant modification of non-Gaussianity estimator f_{NL} could reach O(1) in DBI inflation and K-inflation. The corrections are sensitive to the speed of sound and the choice of string length scale. Moreover the shapes of the corrected non-Gaussianities are distinct from that of ordinary ones.

Operator Product Expansion of Wilson surfaces from M5-branes

The operator product expansion (OPE) of the Wilson surface operators in six-dimensional (2, 0) superconformal field theory is studied from AdS/CFT correspondence in this paper. We compute the OPE coefficients of the chiral primary operators using the M5-brane description for spherical Wilson surface operators in higher dimensional representations. We use the non-chiral M5-brane action in our calculation. We also discuss their membrane limit, and compare our results with the ones obtained from membrane description.

Inflationary NonGaussianity from Thermal Fluctuations

We calculate the contribution of the fluctuations with the thermal origin to the inflationary nonGaussianity. We find that even a small component of radiation can lead to a large nonGaussianity. We show that this thermal nonGaussianity always has positive $f_{\rm NL}$. We illustrate our result in the chain inflation model and the very weakly dissipative warm inflation model. We show that $f_{NL}\sim {\cal O}(1)$ is general in such models. If we allow modified equation of state, or some decoupling effects, the large thermal nonGaussianity of order $f_{\rm NL}>5$ or even $f_{\rm NL}\sim 100$ can be produced. We also show that the power spectrum of chain inflation should have a thermal origin. In the Appendix A, we made a clarification on the different conventions used in the literature related to the calculation of $f_{\rm NL}$.

Bubbling AdS and droplet descriptions of BPS geometries in IIB supergravity

This paper focuses on supergravity duals of BPS states in N=4 super Yang-Mills. In order to describe these duals, we begin with a sequence of breathing mode reductions of IIB supergravity: first on S^3, then S^3 x S^1, and finally on S^3 x S^1 x CP^1. We then follow with a complete supersymmetry analysis, yielding 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 BPS configurations, respectively (where in the last step we take the Hopf fibration of S^3). The 1/8 BPS geometries, which have an S^3 isometry and are time-fibered over a six-dimensional base, are determined by solving a non-linear equation for the Kahler metric on the base. Similarly, the 1/4 BPS configurations have an S^3 x S^1 isometry and a four-dimensional base, whose Kahler metric obeys another non-linear, Monge-Ampere type equation. Despite the non-linearity of the problem, we develop a universal bubbling AdS description of these geometries by focusing on the boundary conditions which ensure their regularity. In the 1/8 BPS case, we find that the S^3 cycle shrinks to zero size on a five-dimensional locus inside the six-dimensional base. Enforcing regularity of the full solution requires that the interior of a smooth, generally disconnected five-dimensional surface be removed from the base. The AdS_5 x S^5 ground state corresponds to excising the interior of an S^5, while the 1/8 BPS excitations correspond to deformations (including topology change) of the S^5 and/or the excision of additional droplets from the base. In the case of 1/4 BPS configurations, by enforcing regularity conditions, we identify three-dimensional surfaces inside the four-dimensional base which separate the regions where the S^3 shrinks to zero size from those where the S^1 shrinks.

M5-branes and Wilson Surfaces

We investigate the M5-brane description of the Wilson surface operators in six-dimensional (2,0) superconformal field theory from AdS/CFT correspondence. We consider the Wilson surface operators in high-dimensional representation, whose description could be M5-brane string soliton solutions in $AdS_7\times S^4$ background. We construct such string soliton solutions from the covariant M5-brane equations of motion and discuss their properties. The supersymmetry analysis shows that these solutions are half-BPS. We also discuss the subtle issue on the boundary terms.

Generalized Space-time Noncommutative Inflation

We study the noncommutative inflation with a time-dependent noncommutativity between space and time. From the numerical analysis of power law inflation, there are clues that the CMB spectrum indicates a nonconstant noncommutative inflation. Then we extend our treatment to the inflation models with more general noncommutativity and find that the scalar perturbation power spectrum depends sensitively on the time varying of the spacetime noncommutativity. This stringy effect may be probed in the future cosmological observations.

Hawking Radiation of Black Rings from Anomalies

We derive Hawking radiation of 5-dimensional black rings from gauge and gravitational anomalies using the method proposed by Robinson and Wilczek. We find as in the black hole case, the problem could reduce to a (1+1) dimensional field theory and the anomalies result in correct Hawking temperature for neutral, dipole and charged black rings.

Inflation with Holographic Dark Energy

We investigate the corrections of the holographic dark energy to inflation paradigm. We study the evolution of the holographic dark energy in the inflationary universe in detail, and carry out a model-independent analysis on the holographic dark energy correction to the primordial scalar power spectrum. It turns out that the corrections generically make the spectrum redder. To be consistent with the experimental data, there must be a upper bound on the reheating temperature. We also discuss the corrections due to different choices of the infrared cutoff.

Hawking Radiation from General Kerr-(anti)de Sitter Black Holes

We calculate the total flux of Hawking radiation from Kerr-(anti)de Sitter black holes by using gravitational anomaly method developed in gr-qc/0502074. We consider the general Kerr-(anti)de Sitter black holes in arbitrary $D$ dimensions with the maximal number [D/2] of independent rotating parameters. We find that the physics near the horizon can be described by an infinite collection of $(1+1)$-dimensional quantum fields coupled to a set of gauge fields with charges proportional to the azimuthal angular momentums $m_i$. With the requirement of anomaly cancellation and regularity at the horizon, the Hawking radiation is determined.

Inflation with High Derivative Couplings

We study a class of generalized inflation models in which the inflaton is coupled to the Ricci scalar by a general $f(ϕ, R)$ term. The scalar power spectrum, the spectral index, the running of the spectral index, the tensor mode spectrum and a new consistency relation of the model are calculated. We discuss in detail the issues of how to diagonize the coupled perturbation equations, how to deal with an entropy-like source, and how to determine the initial condition by quantization. By studying some explicit models, we find that rich phenomena such as a blue scalar power spectrum, a large running of the spectral index, and a blue tensor mode spectrum can be obtained.

Quantum size effects in thermodynamic superconducting properties of ultra thin films

By using multi-bands BCS theory, we have calculated the superconductivity energy gap and the critical temperature of a thin-film metallic superconductor. The thermodynamic superconducting characteristics such as critical magnetic field, specific heat, as well as the tunneling conductance are investigated for varying film thickness and temperature. We find the oscillation of thermodynamic superconducting properties with the film thickness, including the thermodynamic critical field $H_c$, the specific heat of normal, superconducting state, and position of the differential tunneling conductance peak. The two universal constants the nth sub-band energy gap $Δ_n$ at temperature $T=0K$ over $k_BT_c$, and the specific heat jump at $T_c$ over normal state specific heat at $T_c$ are independent of the film thickness. Their values are the same as in the bulk superconductor.

On 1/2-BPS Wilson-'t Hooft loops

We investigate the 1/2-BPS Wilson-'t Hooft loops in ${\cal N}=4$ Super-Yang-Mills theory. We use the bulk D-brane with both electric and magnetic charges to calculate the all genus contribution of the circular loops. The expectation value of Wilson-'t Hooft loops are in perfect agreement with the result through supersymmetric condition and duality transformation in the gauge theory.

Numerical simulations of a ballistic spin interferometer with the Rashba spin-orbital interaction

We numerically investigate the transport behavior of a quasi one-dimension (1D) square loop device containing the Rashba spin-orbital interaction in the presence of a magnetic flux. The conductance versus the magnetic field shows the Al'tshuler-Aronov-Spivak (AAS) and Aharonov-Bohm (AB) oscillations. We focus on the oscillatory amplitudes, and find that both of them are strongly dependent on the spin precession angle (i.e. the strength of the spin-orbit interaction) and exhibit no-periodic oscillations, which are well in agreement with a recent experiment by Koga et al. [cond-mat/0504743(unpublished)]. However, our numerical results for the ideal 1D square loop device for the node positions of the amplitudes of the AB and AAS oscillations are found to be of some discrepancies comparing with quasi-1D square loop with a finite width. In the presence of disorder and taking the disorder ensemble average, the AB oscillation in the conductance will disappear, while the time-reversal symmetric AAS oscillation still remains. Furthermore, the node positions of the AAS oscillatory amplitude remains the same.

The Time-dependent Supersymmetric Configurations in M-theory and Matrix Models

In this paper, we study the half-supersymmetric time-dependent configurations in M-theory and their matrix models. We find a large class of 11D supergravity solutions, which keeps sixteen supersymmetries. Furthermore, we investigate the isometries of these configurations and show that in general these configurations have no supernumerary supersymmetries. And also we define the Matrix models in these backgrounds following Discrete Light-Cone Quantization (DLCQ) prescription.

We discuss the matrix model in a class of 11D time dependent supersymmetric backgrounds as obtained in hep-th/0508191 . We construct the matrix model action through the matrix regularization of the membrane action in the background. We show that the action is exact to all order of fermionic coordinates. Furthermore We discuss the fuzzy sphere solutions in this background.

Exactly Solvable Model of Superstring in Plane-wave Background with Linear Null Dilaton

In this paper, we study an exactly solvable model of IIB superstring in a time-dependent plane-wave backgound with a constant self-dual Ramond-Ramond 5-form field strength and a linear dilaton in the light-like direction. This background keeps sixteen supersymmetries. In the light-cone gauge, the action is described by the two-dimensional free bosons and fermions with time-dependent masses. The model could be canonically quantized and its Hamiltonian is time-dependent with vanishing zero point energy. The spectrum of the excitations is symmetric between the bosonic and fermionic sector. The string mode creation turns out to be very small.

The Fate of Massive Closed Strings

We calculate the semi-inclusive decay rate of an average string state with toroidal compactification in the the superstring theory. We also apply this calculation to a brane-inflation model in a warped geometry and find that the decay rate is greatly suppressed if the final strings are both massive and enhanced for massless radiation.

Persistent spin current in anisotropic spin ring

The persistent spin current in anisotropic spin ring penetrated by a SU(2) flux is studied by the Schwinger-boson mean field approach. The anisotropy in spin coupling can facilitate the persistent spin current. Ground-state energy and excitation energy gap are also studied. The peak of spin current occurs at the maximum value of the ground-state energy.
