Latent Feature Based FM Model For Rating Prediction

Rating Prediction is a basic problem in Recommender System, and one of the most widely used method is Factorization Machines(FM). However, traditional matrix factorization methods fail to utilize the benefit of implicit feedback, which has been proved to be important in Rating Prediction problem. In this work, we consider a specific situation, movie rating prediction, where we assume that watching history has a big influence on his/her rating behavior on an item. We introduce two models, Latent Dirichlet Allocation(LDA) and word2vec, both of which perform state-of-the-art results in training latent features. Based on that, we propose two feature based models. One is the Topic-based FM Model which provides the implicit feedback to the matrix factorization. The other is the Vector-based FM Model which expresses the order info of watching history. Empirical results on three datasets demonstrate that our method performs better than the baseline model and confirm that Vector-based FM Model usually works better as it contains the order info.

Rydberg states generation of Hydrogen atoms with intense laser pulses: the roles of Coulomb force and initial lateral momentum

We investigate the Rydberg states generation of Hydrogen atoms with intense laser pulses, by solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation and by means of classical trajectory monte-carlo simulations. Both linearly polarized multi-cycle pulses and pairs of optical half cycle pulses are used. Comparisons between these methods show that both the Coulomb force and initial lateral momentum, which have effects on the $n$-distribution and $l$-distribution of the population of excited states, are important in the generation of Rydberg states.

Dynamic orbitals in high-harmonic generation from CO molecules

We identify that both the dynamic core polarization and dynamic orbital deformation are important in the orientation-dependent high-harmonic generation of CO molecules subjected to intense few cycle laser fields. These polarization dynamics allow for the observation of strong orientation effects and dynamic minimum in the harmonic spectra. The generated attosecond pulses can be greatly affected by these multielectron effects. This work sheds light on future development of dynamic orbital imaging on attosecond time scale.

Doubly Charged Lepton from an Exotic Doublet at the LHC

We studied the signatures at the LHC of the electroweak SU(2) lepton doublet which embeds a doubly charged lepton. The doubly charged lepton pair and single production rates, which are different from the triplet case, are studied and all the detectable decay modes are considered. We also applied the same kinematic cuts as in triplet case to reduce the background at LHC and the needed integrated luminosities to find the doubly charged leptons with different masses are analyzed. We also suggested a method to distinguish the exotic lepton doublet and triplet.

Triplet with a doubly-charged lepton at the LHC

We studied the signatures of an electroweak SU(2) lepton triplet which contains a doubly charged heavy lepton. The most interesting and easily detected final states are originating from the doubly charged lepton pair and single production, that we analyzed at a center of mass energy of 14 TeV. We propose useful kinematic cuts to reduce the backgrounds and computed the integrated luminosity needed to discover or exclude the doubly charged leptons for various masses.

Work distribution of an expanding gas and transverse energy production in relativistic heavy ion collisions

The work distribution of an expanding extreme relativistic gas is shown to be a gamma distribution with a different shape parameter as compared with its non-relativistic counterpart. This implies that the shape of the transverse energy distribution in relativistic heavy ion collisions depends on the particle contents during the evolution of the hot and dense matter. Therefore, transverse energy fluctuations provide additional insights into the Quark-Gluon Plasma produced in these collisions.

Equilibrium and equilibration in a gluon plasma with improved matrix elements

The hot and dense matter created in the early stage of a relativistic heavy ion collision is composed mainly of gluons. Radiative processes can play an important role for the thermalization of such partonic systems. The simplest parton number changing processes are commonly described by the Gunion-Bertsch formula. We show that the cross section from the exact matrix element for the lowest order radiative process could be significantly smaller than that based on the Gunion-Bertsch formula. In light of this, we discuss the role of radiative processes on the equilibrium and equilibration of a gluon plasma.

Dynamic core polarization in strong-field ionization of CO molecules

The orientation-dependent strong-field ionization of CO molecules is investigated using the fully propagated three-dimensional time-dependent Hartree-Fock theory. The full ionization results are in good agreement with recent experiments. The comparisons between the full method and single active orbital (SAO) method show that although the core electrons are generally more tightly bounded and contribute little to the total ionization yields, their dynamics cannot be ignored, which effectively modify the behaviors of electrons in the highest occupied molecular orbital. By incorporating it into the SAO method, we identify that the dynamic core polarization plays an important role in the strong-field tunneling ionization of CO molecules, which is helpful for future development of tunneling ionization theory of molecules beyond single active electron approximation.

SZ effect or Not? - Detecting most galaxy clusters' main foreground effect

Galaxy clusters are the most massive objects in the Universe and comprise a high-temperature intracluster medium of about 10^7 K, believed to offer a main foreground effect for cosmic microwave background (CMB) data in the form of the thermal Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SZ) effect. This assumption has been confirmed by SZ signal detection in hundreds of clusters but, in comparison with the huge numbers of clusters within optically selected samples from Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) data, this only accounts for a few per cent of clusters. Here we introduce a model-independent new method to confirm the assumption that most galaxy clusters can offer the thermal SZ signal as their main foreground effect. For the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) seven-year data (and a given galaxy cluster sample), we introduced a parameter d1 as the nearest-neighbour cluster angular distance of each pixel, then we classified data pixels as 'to be' (d1--> 0 case) or 'not to be' (d1 large enough) affected by the sample clusters. By comparing the statistical results of these two kinds of pixels, we can see how the sample clusters affect the CMB data directly. We find that the Planck Early Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (ESZ) sample and X-ray samples (~10^2 clusters) can lead to obvious temperature depression in the WMAP seven-year data, which confirms the SZ effect prediction. However, each optically selected sample (>10^4 clusters) shows an opposite result: the mean temperature rises to about 10uK. This unexpected qualitative scenario implies that the main foreground effect of most clusters is $not$ always the expected SZ effect. This may be the reason why the SZ signal detection result is lower than expected from the model.

Vector Bosons Signals of Electroweak Symmetry Breaking

We study the physics potential of the 8 TeV LHC to discover signals of extended gauge models or extra dimensional models whose low energy behavior is well represented by an SU(2) x SU(2) x U(1) electroweak gauge structure. We find that with a combined integrated luminosity of 40 fb^(-1), the first new Kaluza-Klein mode of the W gauge boson can be discovered up to a mass of about 400 GeV, when produced in association with a Z boson.

Conical zeta values and their double subdivision relations

We introduce the concept of a conical zeta value as a geometric generalization of a multiple zeta value in the context of convex cones. The quasi-shuffle and shuffle relations of multiple zeta values are generalized to open cone subdivision and closed cone subdivision relations respectively for conical zeta values. In order to achieve the closed cone subdivision relation, we also interpret linear relations among fractions as subdivisions of decorated closed cones. As a generalization of the double shuffle relation of multiple zeta values, we give the double subdivision relation of conical zeta values and formulate the extended double subdivision relation conjecture for conical zeta values.

Contrasting Multiple Social Network Autocorrelations for Binary Outcomes, With Applications To Technology Adoption

The rise of socially targeted marketing suggests that decisions made by consumers can be predicted not only from their personal tastes and characteristics, but also from the decisions of people who are close to them in their networks. One obstacle to consider is that there may be several different measures for "closeness" that are appropriate, either through different types of friendships, or different functions of distance on one kind of friendship, where only a subset of these networks may actually be relevant. Another is that these decisions are often binary and more difficult to model with conventional approaches, both conceptually and computationally. To address these issues, we present a hierarchical model for individual binary outcomes that uses and extends the machinery of the auto-probit method for binary data. We demonstrate the behavior of the parameters estimated by the multiple network-regime auto-probit model (m-NAP) under various sensitivity conditions, such as the impact of the prior distribution and the nature of the structure of the network, and demonstrate on several examples of correlated binary data in networks of interest to Information Systems, including the adoption of Caller Ring-Back Tones, whose use is governed by direct connection but explained by additional network topologies.

Discovering New Gauge Bosons of Electroweak Symmetry Breaking at LHC-8

We study the physics potential of the 8TeV LHC (LHC-8) to discover, during its 2012 run, a large class of extended gauge models or extra dimensional models whose low energy behavior is well represented by an SU(2)^2 x U(1) gauge structure. We analyze this class of models and find that with a combined integrated luminosity of 40-60/fb at the LHC-8, the first new Kaluza-Klein mode of the W gauge boson can be discovered up to a mass of about 370-400 GeV, when produced in association with a Z boson.

Polylogarithms and multiple zeta values from free Rota-Baxter algebras

We show that the shuffle algebras for polylogarithms and regularized MZVs in the sense of Ihara, Kaneko and Zagier are both free commutative nonunitary Rota-Baxter algebras with one generator. We apply these results to show that the full sets of shuffle relations of polylogarithms and regularized MZVs are derived by a single series. We also take this approach to study the extended double shuffle relations of MZVs by comparing these shuffle relations with the quasi-shuffle relations of the regularized MZVs in our previous approach of MZVs by renormalization.

E-Characteristic Polynomials of Tensors

In this paper, we show that the coefficients of the E-characteristic polynomial of a tensor are orthonormal invariants of that tensor. When the dimension is 2, some simplified formulas of the E-characteristic polynomial are presented. A re- sultant formula for the constant term of the E-characteristic polynomial is given. We then study the set of tensors with infinitely many eigenpairs and the set of irregular tensors, and prove both the sets have codimension 2 as subvarieties in the projective space of tensors. This makes our perturbation method workable. By using the perturbation method and exploring the difference between E-eigenvalues and eigenpair equivalence classes, we present a simple formula for the coefficient of the leading term of the E-characteristic polynomial, when the dimension is 2.

Toward parton equilibration with improved parton interaction matrix elements

The Quark-Gluon Plasma can be produced in high energy heavy ion collisions and how it equilibrates is important for the extraction of the properties of strongly interacting matter. A radiative transport model can be used to reveal interesting characteristics of Quark-Gluon Plasma thermalization. For example, screened parton interactions always lead to partial pressure isotropization. Systems with different initial pressure anisotropies evolve toward the same asymptotic evolution. In particular, radiative processes are crucial for the chemical equilibration of the system. Matrix elements under the soft and collinear approximation for these processes, as first derived by Gunion and Bertsch, are widely used. A different approach is to start with the exact matrix elements for the two to three and its inverse processes. General features of this approach will be reviewed and the results will be compared with the Gunion-Bertsch results. We will comment on the possible implications of the exact matrix element approach on Quark-Gluon Plasma thermalization.

Formation of aeroplane-like ZnO and tetrahexahedral Pt nanocrystals: systemic symmetry and symmetry breaking during nanocrystallization

Symmetries are so involved in crystallographic detail that it is indispensable when crystal cell or lattice is mentioned. For nanocrystals, however, many are 'systemic symmetries', meaning that the whole structures of nanocrystal particles are symmetrical from a different view. In that case, the development of the systemic symmetry is dictated by the law of symmetry breaking; that is, nanocrystallization does, to some extent, exceed current theories associated with crystallography.
