Liouville theorems for a class of degenerate or singular Monge-Ampère equations

In this note, we classify solutions to a class of Monge-Ampère equations whose right hand side may be degenerate or singular in the half space. Solutions to these equations are special solutions to a class of fourth order equations, including the affine maximal hypersurface equation, in the half space. Both the Dirichlet boundary value and Neumann boundary value cases are considered.

Higher-order topological insulators in hyperbolic lattices

To explore the non-Euclidean generalization of higher-order topological phenomena, we construct a higher-order topological insulator model in hyperbolic lattices by breaking the time-reversal symmetry (TRS) of quantum spin Hall insulators. We investigate three kinds of hyperbolic lattices, i.e., hyperbolic $\{4,5\}$, $\{8,3\}$ and $\{12,3\}$ lattices, respectively. The non-Euclidean higher-order topological behavior is characterized by zero-energy effective corner states appearing in hyperbolic lattices. By adjusting the variation period of the TRS breaking term, we obtain 4, 8 and 12 zero-energy effective corner states in these three different hyperbolic lattices, respectively. It is found that the number of zero-energy effective corner states of a hyperbolic lattice depends on the variation period of the TRS breaking term. The real-space quadrupole moment is employed to characterize the higher-order topology of the hyperbolic lattice with four zero-energy effective corner states. Via symmetry analysis, it is confirmed that the hyperbolic zero-energy effective corner states are protected by the particle-hole symmetry $P$, the effective chiral symmetry $Sm_{z}$, and combined symmetries $C_{p}T$ and $C_{p}m_{z}$. The hyperbolic zero-energy effective corner states remain stable unless these four symmetries are broken simultaneously. The topological nature of hyperbolic zero-energy effective corner states is further confirmed by checking the robustness of the zero-energy modes in the hyperbolic lattices in the presence of disorder. Our paper provides a route for research on hyperbolic higher-order topological insulators in non-Euclidean geometric systems.

Probing the Higgs trilinear self-coupling through Higgs+jet production

We present the calculation of the next-to-leading order (NLO) electroweak (EW) corrections proportional to the Higgs trilinear self-coupling ($λ_{HHH}$) for Higgs boson plus one jet production at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We use the method of large top quark mass expansion to tackle the most challenging two-loop virtual amplitude, and apply the Padé approximation to extend the region of convergence of the expansion. We find that the NLO EW corrections is $0.66\%$ for the total cross section. For the invariant mass distribution and Higgs boson transverse momentum distribution, the NLO corrections are almost flat with their values similar in size. Our results can be used to set extra constraints on $λ_{HHH}$ at the LHC.

Adversarial Learning-based Stance Classifier for COVID-19-related Health Policies

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has caused immeasurable losses for people worldwide. To contain the spread of the virus and further alleviate the crisis, various health policies (e.g., stay-at-home orders) have been issued which spark heated discussions as users turn to share their attitudes on social media. In this paper, we consider a more realistic scenario on stance detection (i.e., cross-target and zero-shot settings) for the pandemic and propose an adversarial learning-based stance classifier to automatically identify the public's attitudes toward COVID-19-related health policies. Specifically, we adopt adversarial learning that allows the model to train on a large amount of labeled data and capture transferable knowledge from source topics, so as to enable generalize to the emerging health policies with sparse labeled data. To further enhance the model's deeper understanding, we incorporate policy descriptions as external knowledge into the model. Meanwhile, a GeoEncoder is designed which encourages the model to capture unobserved background factors specified by each region and then represent them as non-text information. We evaluate the performance of a broad range of baselines on the stance detection task for COVID-19-related health policies, and experimental results show that our proposed method achieves state-of-the-art performance in both cross-target and zero-shot settings.

Thrust distribution in Higgs decays up to the fifth logarithmic order

In this work, we extend the resummation for the thrust distribution in Higgs decays up to the fifth logarithmic order. We show that one needs the accurate values of the three-loop soft functions for reliable predictions in the back-to-back region. This is especially true in the gluon channel, where the soft function exhibits poor perturbative convergence.

Magnon corner states in twisted bilayer honeycomb magnets

Search for higher-order topological insulators, characterized by topologically protected gapless boundary states of codimension higher than one, in bosonic systems has attracted growing interest. Here, we establish twisted bilayer honeycomb magnets as a new platform for hosting second-order topological magnon insulators (SOTMIs) without fine-tuning. We employ a simple, minimal Heisenberg spin model to describe misaligned bilayer sheets of honeycomb ferromagnetic magnets with a large commensurate twist angle. We found that the higher-order topology in this bilayer system shows a significant dependence on the interlayer exchange coupling. The SOTMI, featuring topologically protected magnon corner states, appears for ferromagnetic interlayer couplings, while the twisted bilayer exhibits a nodal phase in the case of antiferromagnetic interlayer coupling.

RIS-Assisted Self-Interference Mitigation for In-Band Full-Duplex Transceivers

The wireless in-band full-duplex (IBFD) technology can in theory double the system capacity over the conventional frequency division duplex (FDD) or time-division duplex (TDD) alternatives. But the strong self-interference of the IBFD can cause excessive quantization noise in the analog-to-digital converters (ADC), which represents the hurdle for its real implementation. In this paper, we consider employing a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) for IBFD communications. While the BS transmits and receives the signals to and from the users simultaneously on the same frequency band, it can adjust the reflection coefficients of the RIS to configure the wireless channel so that the self-interference of the BS is sufficiently mitigated in the propagation domain. Taking the impact of the quantization noise into account, we propose to jointly design the downlink (DL) precoding matrix and the RIS coefficients to maximize the sum of uplink (UL) and DL rates. The effectiveness of the proposed RIS-assisted in-band full-duplex (RAIBFD) system is verified by simulation studies, even taking into considerations that the phases of the RIS have only finite resolution.

Zero-shot stance detection based on cross-domain feature enhancement by contrastive learning

Zero-shot stance detection is challenging because it requires detecting the stance of previously unseen targets in the inference phase. The ability to learn transferable target-invariant features is critical for zero-shot stance detection. In this work, we propose a stance detection approach that can efficiently adapt to unseen targets, the core of which is to capture target-invariant syntactic expression patterns as transferable knowledge. Specifically, we first augment the data by masking the topic words of sentences, and then feed the augmented data to an unsupervised contrastive learning module to capture transferable features. Then, to fit a specific target, we encode the raw texts as target-specific features. Finally, we adopt an attention mechanism, which combines syntactic expression patterns with target-specific features to obtain enhanced features for predicting previously unseen targets. Experiments demonstrate that our model outperforms competitive baselines on four benchmark datasets.

Density-driven higher-order topological phase transitions in amorphous solids

Amorphous topological states, which are independent of the specific spatial distribution of microscopic constructions, have gained much attention. Recently, higher-order topological insulators, which are a new class of topological phases of matter, have been proposed in amorphous systems. Here, we propose a density-driven higher-order topological phase transition in a two-dimensional amorphous system. We demonstrate that the amorphous system hosts a topological trivial phase at low density. With an increase in the density of lattice sites, the topological trivial phase converts to a higher-order topological phase characterized by a quantized quadrupole moment and the existence of topological corner states. Furthermore, we confirm that the density-driven higher-order topological phase transition is size dependent. In addition, our results should be general and equally applicable to three-dimensional amorphous systems. Our findings may greatly enrich the study of higher-order topological states in amorphous systems.

Inter- and Intra-Series Embeddings Fusion Network for Epidemiological Forecasting

The accurate forecasting of infectious epidemic diseases is the key to effective control of the epidemic situation in a region. Most existing methods ignore potential dynamic dependencies between regions or the importance of temporal dependencies and inter-dependencies between regions for prediction. In this paper, we propose an Inter- and Intra-Series Embeddings Fusion Network (SEFNet) to improve epidemic prediction performance. SEFNet consists of two parallel modules, named Inter-Series Embedding Module and Intra-Series Embedding Module. In Inter-Series Embedding Module, a multi-scale unified convolution component called Region-Aware Convolution is proposed, which cooperates with self-attention to capture dynamic dependencies between time series obtained from multiple regions. The Intra-Series Embedding Module uses Long Short-Term Memory to capture temporal relationships within each time series. Subsequently, we learn the influence degree of two embeddings and fuse them with the parametric-matrix fusion method. To further improve the robustness, SEFNet also integrates a traditional autoregressive component in parallel with nonlinear neural networks. Experiments on four real-world epidemic-related datasets show SEFNet is effective and outperforms state-of-the-art baselines.

EpiGNN: Exploring Spatial Transmission with Graph Neural Network for Regional Epidemic Forecasting

Epidemic forecasting is the key to effective control of epidemic transmission and helps the world mitigate the crisis that threatens public health. To better understand the transmission and evolution of epidemics, we propose EpiGNN, a graph neural network-based model for epidemic forecasting. Specifically, we design a transmission risk encoding module to characterize local and global spatial effects of regions in epidemic processes and incorporate them into the model. Meanwhile, we develop a Region-Aware Graph Learner (RAGL) that takes transmission risk, geographical dependencies, and temporal information into account to better explore spatial-temporal dependencies and makes regions aware of related regions' epidemic situations. The RAGL can also combine with external resources, such as human mobility, to further improve prediction performance. Comprehensive experiments on five real-world epidemic-related datasets (including influenza and COVID-19) demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method and show that EpiGNN outperforms state-of-the-art baselines by 9.48% in RMSE.

Aesthetics Driven Autonomous Time-Lapse Photography Generation by Virtual and Real Robots

Time-lapse photography is employed in movies and promotional films because it can reflect the passage of time in a short time and strengthen the visual attraction. However, since it takes a long time and requires the stable shooting, it is a great challenge for the photographer. In this article, we propose a time-lapse photography system with virtual and real robots. To help users shoot time-lapse videos efficiently, we first parameterize the time-lapse photography and propose a parameter optimization method. For different parameters, different aesthetic models, including image and video aesthetic quality assessment networks, are used to generate optimal parameters. Then we propose a time-lapse photography interface to facilitate users to view and adjust parameters and use virtual robots to conduct virtual photography in a three-dimensional scene. The system can also export the parameters and provide them to real robots so that the time-lapse videos can be filmed in the real world. In addition, we propose a time-lapse photography aesthetic assessment method that can automatically evaluate the aesthetic quality of time-lapse video. The experimental results show that our method can efficiently obtain the time-lapse videos. We also conduct a user study. The results show that our system has the similar effect as professional photographers and is more efficient.

Interior estimates for Monge-Ampère type fourth order equations

In this paper, we give several new approaches to study interior estimates for a class of fourth order equations of Monge-Ampère type. First, we prove interior estimates for the homogeneous equation in dimension two by using the partial Legendre transform. As an application, we obtain a new proof of the Bernstein theorem without using Caffarelli-Gutiérrez's estimate, including the Chern conjecture on affine maximal surfaces. For the inhomogeneous equation, we also obtain a new proof in dimension two by an integral method relying on the Monge-Ampère Sobolev inequality. This proof works even when the right hand side is singular. In higher dimensions, we obtain the interior regularity in terms of integral bounds on the second derivatives and the inverse of the determinant.

Chern insulator in a hyperbolic lattice

Motivated by the recent experimental realizations of hyperbolic lattices in circuit quantum electrodynamics and the research interest in the non-Euclidean generalization of topological phenomena, we investigate the Chern insulator phases in a hyperbolic $\{8,3\}$ lattice, which is made from regular octagons ($8$-gons) such that the coordination number of each lattice site is $3$. Based on the conformal projection of the hyperbolic lattice into the Euclidean plane, i.e., the Poincaré disk model, by calculating the Bott index ($B$) and the two-terminal conductance, we reveal two Chern insulator phases (with $B=1$ and $B=-1$, respectively) accompanied with quantized conductance plateaus in the hyperbolic $\{8,3\}$ lattice. The numerical calculation results of the nonequilibrium local current distribution further confirm that the quantized conductance plateau originates from the chiral edge states and the two Chern insulator phases exhibit opposite chirality. Moreover, we explore the effect of disorder on topological phases in the hyperbolic lattice. It is demonstrated that the chiral edge states of Chern insulators are robust against weak disorder in the hyperbolic lattice. More fascinating is the discovery of disorder-induced topological non-trivial phases exhibiting chiral edge states in the hyperbolic lattice, realizing a non-Euclidean analog of topological Anderson insulator. Our work provides a route for the exploration of topological non-trivial states in hyperbolic geometric systems.

Multi-scale Anomaly Detection for Big Time Series of Industrial Sensors

Given a multivariate big time series, can we detect anomalies as soon as they occur? Many existing works detect anomalies by learning how much a time series deviates away from what it should be in the reconstruction framework. However, most models have to cut the big time series into small pieces empirically since optimization algorithms cannot afford such a long series. The question is raised: do such cuts pollute the inherent semantic segments, like incorrect punctuation in sentences? Therefore, we propose a reconstruction-based anomaly detection method, MissGAN, iteratively learning to decode and encode naturally smooth time series in coarse segments, and finding out a finer segment from low-dimensional representations based on HMM. As a result, learning from multi-scale segments, MissGAN can reconstruct a meaningful and robust time series, with the help of adversarial regularization and extra conditional states. MissGAN does not need labels or only needs labels of normal instances, making it widely applicable. Experiments on industrial datasets of real water network sensors show our MissGAN outperforms the baselines with scalability. Besides, we use a case study on the CMU Motion dataset to demonstrate that our model can well distinguish unexpected gestures from a given conditional motion.

Recent neutron focusing experiments using polycapillary lens in CSNS

Higher neutron current densities can provide convenience for neutron experiments. Using neutron optical focusing elements, large flux beams transported to sample can be achieved. As one kind of focusing elements, polycapillary lens is very suitable for neutron absorption experiments such as PGAA and NDP technology. At present, a Neutron Physics and Application Spectrometer was in construction in CSNS, which is the first pulsed neutron source in China. To provide some suggestions and ideas for the following design of enhanced PGAA or NDP instrument with polycapillary lens in CSNS, a first neutron focusing experiment using polycapillary lens in CSNS was conducted. For 0.5-12.6 polychromatic beam, a focal spot with FWHM of 800 was obtained. As the value of wavelength increased, the beam size, transmission efficiency and gain increased. For cold neutron, the gain maintained in a level of 7.
