Raman scattering study of electron-doped Pr$_x$Ca$_{1-x}$Fe$_2$As$_2$ superconductors

Temperature-dependent polarized Raman spectra of electron-doped superconducting Pr$_x$Ca$_{1-x}$Fe$_2$As$_2$ ($x \approx 0.12$) single crystals are reported. All four allowed by symmetry even-parity phonons are identified. Phonon mode of B$_{1g}$ symmetry at 222 cm$^{-1}$, which is associated with the c-axis motion of Fe ions, is found to exhibit an anomalous frequency hardening at low temperatures, that signals non-vanishing electron-phonon coupling in the superconducting state and implies that the superconducting gap magnitude $2Δ_c < 27$meV.

Evidence of quantum criticality in the phase diagram of K$_x$Sr$_{1-x}$Fe$_2$As$_2$ from measurements of transport and thermoelectricity

The electrical transport and thermoelectric properties of K_xSr_{1-x}Fe_2As_2 are investigated for 0<x<1. The resistivity rho(T) shows a crossover from Fermi liquid-like temperature dependence at small x to linear rho~T dependence at x_c=0.4. With further increasing x, rho(T) becomes non-linear again. The thermoelectric power S(T) exhibits a similar crossover with increasing x with a logarithmic T-dependence, S/T~ln(T), near the critical doping x_c. These results provide evidence for a quantum critical behavior due to the coupling of low-energy conduction electrons to two-dimensional spin fluctuations.

Pressure-induced shift of T$_c$ in K$_x$Sr$_{1-x}$Fe$_2$As$_2$ (x=0.2, 0.4, 0.7): Analogy to the high-T$_c$ cuprate superconductors

The systematic pressure shifts of T_c were investigated in the whole phase diagram of the FeAs-based superconducting compound K_xSr_{1-x}Fe_2As_2. Different regions, arising from corresponding responses of T$_c$ to pressure (dT_c/dp>0, =0, or <0), can be clearly distinguished. This reveals an interesting similarity of the FeAs superconductors and the high-T_c cuprates. This behavior is a manifestation of the layered structure of the FeAs compounds and the pressure-induced charge transfer between the (Fe_2As_2) and (K/Sr) layers. The coexistence of superconductivity and spin-density wave behavior were also observed, and the pressure effects on the latter is explored.

LiFeAs: An Intrinsic FeAs-based Superconductor with Tc = 18K

The synthesis and properties of LiFeAs, a high-Tc Fe-based superconducting stoichiometric compound, are reported. Single crystal x-ray studies reveal that it crystallizes in the tetragonal PbFCl type (P4/nmm) with a=3.7914(7) A and c=6.364(2) A. Unlike the known isoelectronic undoped intrinsic FeAs compounds, LiFeAs does not show any spin-density wave behavior but exhibits superconductivity at ambient pressures without chemical doping. It exhibits a respectable transition temperature of Tc=18 K with electronlike carriers and a very high critical field, Hc2(0)>80 T. LiFeAs appears to be the chemical equivalent of the infinite layered compound of the high-Tc cuprates.

Raman scattering study of (K$_x$Sr$_{1-x}$)Fe$_2$As$_2$ ($x$ = 0.0, 0.4)

Polarized Raman spectra of non-superconducting SrFe$_2$As$_2$ and superconducting K$_{0.4}$Sr$_{0.6}$Fe$_2$As$_2$ ($T_c = 37$ K) are reported. All four phonon modes (A$_{1g}$ + B$_{1g}$ + 2E$_g$) allowed by symmetry, are found and identified. Shell model gives reasonable description of the spectra. No detectable anomalies are observed near the tetragonal-to-orthorhombic transition in SrFe$_2$As$_2$ or the superconducting transition in K$_{0.4}$Sr$_{0.6}$Fe$_2$As$_2$.
