Deriving the non-perturbative gravitational dual of quantum Liouville theory from BCFT operator algebra

We demonstrate that, by utilizing the boundary conformal field theory (BCFT) operator algebra of the Liouville CFT, one can express its path-integral on any Riemann surface as a three dimensional path-integral with appropriate boundary conditions, generalising the recipe for rational CFTs \cite{Hung:2019bnq, Brehm:2021wev, Chen:2022wvy, Cheng:2023kxh}. This serves as a constructive method for deriving the \textit{quantum} holographic dual of the CFT, which reduces to Einstein gravity in the large central charge limit. As a byproduct, the framework provides an explicit discrete state-sum of a 3D non-chiral topological theory constructed from quantum $6j$ symbols of $\mathcal{U}_q(sl(2,\mathbb{R}))$ with non-trivial boundary conditions, representing a long-sought non-perturbative discrete formulation of 3D pure gravity with negative cosmological constant, at least within a class of three manifolds. This constitutes the first example of an exact holographic tensor network that reproduces a known irrational CFT with a precise quantum gravitational interpretation.

Lyman-alpha resonant-line radiative transfer in expanding media

The Lyman-alpha (LyA) line of atomic hydrogen encodes crucial information about both the intrinsic sources and surrounding environments of star-forming regions throughout the Universe. Due to the complexity of resonant scattering, analytic solutions remain scarce, with most studies focusing on idealized, static configurations. However, observations of LyA emitting galaxies consistently reveal signatures of outflows, imprinted through red-peak dominance in spectral line profiles. In this paper, we derive novel analytic solutions for resonant-line radiative transfer in moving media, specifically homologous-like cloud expansion and unbounded cosmological flows, which capture the main physics of velocity gradients. To validate these analytic solutions and identify regimes where diffusion-based assumptions hold, we introduce a robust Gridless Monte Carlo Radiative Transfer (GMCRT) method. By integrating optical depths exactly in the comoving frame, GMCRT updates photon frequencies continuously to account for Doppler shifts induced by velocity gradients. We demonstrate excellent consistency between GMCRT and our analytic solutions in regimes where diffusion approximations apply. At higher velocities or lower optical depths, discrepancies highlight the limitations of simplified formalisms. We also provide scaling relations for a point source in a cloud with a maximum-to-thermal velocity ratio beta = V_max / v_th, as modifying the standard dependence on line centre optical depth of (atau_0)^1/3 by additional factors, e.g. characteristic escape frequency scale as x_esc ~ beta^1/3, force multipliers as M_F ~ beta^-1/3, and trapping time as t_trap ~ beta^-2/3. Our work complements numerical simulations by improving physical intuition about nonstatic environments when interpreting LyA observations and guiding future subgrid prescriptions in galaxy formation models.

Universal Structures and Emergent Geometry from Large-$c$ BCFT Ensemble

In this paper, we study the ensemble average of boundary CFT (BCFT) data consistent with the bootstrap equations. We apply the results to computing ensemble average of copies of multi-point correlation functions of boundary changing operators (BCO), and find the results in agreement with one copy of the Virasoro TQFT. Further, we consider ensemble average of CFT path-integrals expressed as tensor networks of BCO correlation functions using the formalism developed in arXiv:2210.12127, arXiv:2311.18005 and arXiv:2403.03179. We find a natural emergence of locality and a loop-sum structure reminiscent of lattice integrable models. We illustrate this universal structure through explicit examples at genus zero and genus one. Moreover, we provide strong evidence that, at leading order in large-$c$, the results match those of three-dimensional Einstein gravity. In the presence of closed CFT operator insertions, generalized free fields emerge, with their correlation functions governed by the shortest paths connecting the insertions.

Consistency of eight-dimensional supergravities: Anomalies, Lattices and Counterterms

We reexamine the question of quantum consistency of supergravities in eight dimensions. Theories with 16 supercharges suffer from the anomalies under the action of its discrete modular groups. In minimally supersymmetric theory coupled to Yang-Mills multiples of rank $l$ with the moduli space given by $\text{SO}(2,l)/ (\text{U}(1) \times \text{SO}(l))$, the existence of a counterterm together with the requirement that its poles and zeros correspond to the gauge symmetry enhancement imposes nontrivial constraints on the lattice. The counterterms needed for anomaly cancellation for all cases, that are believed to lead to consistent theories of quantum gravity ($l = 2,10,18$), are discussed.

3D Ising CFT and Exact Diagonalization on Icosahedron: The Power of Conformal Perturbation Theory

We consider the transverse field Ising model in $(2+1)$D, putting 12 spins at the vertices of the regular icosahedron. The model is tiny by the exact diagonalization standards, and breaks rotation invariance. Yet we show that it allows a meaningful comparison to the 3D Ising CFT on $\mathbb{R}\times S^2$, by including effective perturbations of the CFT Hamiltonian with a handful of local operators. This extreme example shows the power of conformal perturbation theory in understanding finite $N$ effects in models on regularized $S^2$. Its ideal arena of application should be the recently proposed models of fuzzy sphere regularization.

Galois conjugates of String-net Model

We revisit a class of non-Hermitian topological models that are Galois conjugates of their Hermitian counter parts. Particularly, these are Galois conjugates of unitary string-net models. We demonstrate these models necessarily have real spectra, and that topological numbers are recovered as matrix elements of operators evaluated in appropriate bi-orthogonal basis, that we conveniently reformulate as a concomitant Hilbert space here. We also compute in the bi-orthogonal basis thetopological entanglement entropy, demonstrating that its real part is related to the quantum dimension of the topological order. While we focus mostly on the Yang-Lee model, the results in the paper apply generally to Galois conjugates.

Resonant-line radiative transfer within power-law density profiles

Star-forming regions in galaxies are surrounded by vast reservoirs of gas capable of both emitting and absorbing Lyman-alpha (Lya) radiation. Observations of Lya emitters and spatially extended Lya haloes indeed provide insights into the formation and evolution of galaxies. However, due to the complexity of resonant scattering, only a few analytic solutions are known in the literature. We discuss several idealized but physically motivated scenarios to extend the existing formalism to new analytic solutions, enabling quantitative predictions about the transport and diffusion of Lya photons. This includes a closed form solution for the radiation field and derived quantities including the emergent flux, peak locations, energy density, average internal spectrum, number of scatters, outward force multiplier, trapping time, and characteristic radius. To verify our predictions, we employ a robust gridless Monte Carlo radiative transfer (GMCRT) method, which is straightforward to incorporate into existing ray-tracing codes but requires modifications to opacity-based calculations, including dynamical core-skipping acceleration schemes. We primarily focus on power-law density and emissivity profiles, however both the analytic and numerical methods can be generalized to other cases. Such studies provide additional intuition and understanding regarding the connection between the physical environments and observational signatures of galaxies throughout the Universe.
