ELF-REG: Scaling Continuous Diffusion Language Models to Reasoning Tasks

Fully continuous diffusion language models (dLMs) denoise continuous representations without intermediate discretization, then decode all response tokens in parallel at the final step. Their performance on challenging reasoning tasks remains less established than that of autoregressive (AR) LLMs and masked dLMs. We scale Embedded Language Flows (ELF) to mathematical reasoning and code generation on GSM8K, MATH-500, HumanEval, and MBPP. We introduce ELF-REG, which improves learning with representation alignment and entanglement (REPA+REG), where a frozen AR teacher supervises intermediate denoiser features and supplies a global representation that is jointly denoised with the response. ELF-REG-L achieves 55.96% pass@1 on GSM8K at 64 network function evaluations (NFE), and 13.39% on MATH-500 and 22.56% on HumanEval at 128 NFE. It outperforms the evaluated comparable-scale dLMs in pass@1 on GSM8K and code, and improves MATH-500 pass@1 from 10.55% for the ELF-L baseline to 13.39% with ELF-REG-L. Without few-step training, the same task-specific checkpoints support strong low-NFE performance through early-stop, which decodes an intermediate clean prediction without completing the denoising trajectory. At 16 NFE, ELF-REG-L reaches 41.21% HumanEval pass@10, outperforming recent continuous dLMs of comparable scale.

Learning When to Denoise: Optimizing Asynchronous Schedules for Latent Diffusion

Multi-representation diffusion models can improve visual synthesis by denoising complementary views of an image, but their performance depends critically on the asynchronous schedule that determines when each representation is denoised. We propose to learn this schedule. Our method formulates asynchronous flow matching over multiple representation spaces and uses a schedule-corrected objective that keeps each representation's local noising-time weights fixed as the schedule changes. We instantiate the schedule with a flexible parametric class that is convex and monotone by construction, and learn it using a fast joint probe with less than 1% additional training compute. On ImageNet 256x256, the learned schedule substantially improves both convergence speed and final quality under a matched 675M-parameter XL backbone. With AutoGuidance, our 200-epoch model reaches FID 1.05, matching the 800-epoch SFD-XL baseline with 4x less training. Training to 600 epochs further improves to FID 1.02, outperforming the 1B-parameter SFD-XXL result of FID 1.04 while using a smaller model. In the unguided setting, our 200-epoch model reaches FID 2.37, already below the best 800-epoch SFD-XL result (2.54) at 4x less training, and improves to FID 2.14 at 600 epochs. Controlled Low-Rank Adaptation with Subspace Regularization for Continued Training on Large Language Models

Large language models (LLMs) exhibit remarkable capabilities in natural language processing but face catastrophic forgetting when learning new tasks, where adaptation to a new domain leads to a substantial decline in performance on previous tasks. In this paper, we propose Controlled LoRA (CLoRA), a sub-space regularization method on LoRA structure. Aiming to reduce the scale of output change while introduce minimal constraint on model capacity, CLoRA imposes constraint on the direction of updating matrix's null space. Experimental results on one-stage LLM finetuning tasks and continual learning settings highlight the superority of CLoRA as a effective parameter efficient finetuning method with catastrophic forgetting mitigating.Further investigation for model parameters indicates that CLoRA effectively balances the trade-off between model capacity and degree of forgetting.
