MSEditor: Toward Consistent Multi-Shot Video Editing

In this paper, we tackle the problem of performing consistent, unified modifications to a multi-shot video sequence. This task is particularly challenging because multi-shot videos consist of discontinuous temporal segments that vary significantly in viewpoint, camera scale, and subject pose, leading to severe identity drift and cumulative error propagation. Achieving coherent edits requires establishing reliable cross-shot semantic awareness to maintain stable subject appearance and visual continuity across these disjointed boundaries. To address this, we propose MSEditor, the first framework designed specifically for consistent multi-shot video editing. To overcome the scarcity of high-quality multi-shot training data, we repurpose existing multi-view video datasets to provide robust cross-shot supervision. Architecturally, we introduce a Supervisory Adapter that injects this cross-shot information into the diffusion backbone, enabling the model to learn identity-consistent representations. Furthermore, to effectively mitigate cumulative errors and ensure long-range temporal coherence, we design a Cross-Shot Packing strategy that dynamically aggregates information from semantically related shots within the self-attention window. Extensive experiments demonstrate that MSEditor significantly outperforms existing methods on our curated multi-shot video editing benchmark in terms of identity preservation, temporal stability, and overall visual quality.

EmoWorld: A Decoupled Affective Field for Controllable Emotional Video Generation

Emotion shapes how viewers interpret a scene, yet existing video generators entangle global atmosphere, affect-bearing semantic cues, and temporal progression within a single text condition. We present EmoWorld, a framework that decouples these factors within a frozen flow-matching video diffusion transformer (Video DiT). A one-time preparation stage extracts layer-specific affect directions and a reusable cue library from geometry-preserving neutral and emotion-edited panoramas. At inference, Visual Atmosphere Steering (VAS) injects atmosphere directions into hidden states, Semantic Affective Steering (SAS) isolates a separately scalable prompt residual for semantic cues, and Temporal Affective Steering (TAS) interpolates endpoint residual fields across denoising and video time. On Wan2.2, VAS improves target-emotion alignment by 19% while reducing a temporal-fluctuation proxy by 48%; SAS improves target-emotion alignment by 37% and increases detected affect-bearing cues by 36%; and TAS improves transition monotonicity by 15% over the strongest baseline. EmoWorld is evaluated across 27 emotion categories in text-to-video and image-to-video settings, demonstrates portability across multiple Video-DiT backbones, and supports camera-conditioned composition without updating generator parameters.

EmoSpace: Immersive Affective Image Generation Guided by Fine-Grained Emotion Prototypes

Immersive affective content generation aims to create visually compelling VR imagery with controllable emotional nuance, yet existing methods typically rely on coarse labels or prompt-only control. Although modern diffusion transformers (DiTs) such as FLUX improve visual fidelity, they are not designed to incorporate structured affective representations. We present EmoSpace, an immersive affective content generation framework guided by fine-grained emotion prototypes, transforming free-form text and emotion descriptions into fine-grained affective imagery through three coordinated components. First, to represent sub-emotion variation beyond conventional categorical models, EmoSpace learns a hierarchical bank of 256 prototypes with input-conditioned adaptation through vision-language alignment. Second, Prototype-Conditioned Steering converts these prototypes into DiT-compatible generation signals through multi-pathway injection and temporal blending, while Iterative Prompt Refinement enriches prompts with prototype-aligned sub-emotion descriptors. Third, Affect-Grounded Modulation coordinates emotion conditioning with controllable LoRAs for panoramic, stylized, and multi-conditional generation. Through quantitative and qualitative evaluations, EmoSpace improves fine-grained emotional alignment while maintaining high aesthetic quality. Our user study shows that EmoSpace outputs are perceived as more emotionally aligned than baseline results and more suitable for immersive scene design. Additionally, we find that immersive presentation alters emotional perception and increases emotional engagement. Together, these findings inform the design of emotion-aware generative systems for immersive media, with potential applications including education, immersive storytelling, and artistic creation. We will release our code and models to facilitate future research along this line.

InstanceAnimator: Multi-Instance Sketch Video Colorization

We propose InstanceAnimator, a novel Diffusion Transformer framework for multi-instance sketch video colorization. Existing methods suffer from three core limitations: inflexible user control due to heavy reliance on single reference frames, poor instance controllability leading to misalignment in multi-character scenarios, and degraded detail fidelity in fine-grained regions. To address these challenges, we introduce three corresponding innovations. First, a Canvas Guidance Condition eliminates workflow fragmentation by allowing free placement of reference elements and background, enabling unprecedented user flexibility. Second, an Instance Matching Mechanism resolves misalignment by integrating instance features with the sketches, ensuring precise control over multiple characters. Third, an Adaptive Decoupled Control Module enhances detail fidelity by injecting semantic features from characters, backgrounds, and text conditions into the diffusion process. Extensive experiments demonstrate that InstanceAnimator achieves superior multi-instance colorization with enhanced user control, high visual quality, and strong instance consistency.

GatheringSense: AI-Generated Imagery and Embodied Experiences for Understanding Literati Gatherings

Chinese literati gatherings (Wenren Yaji), as a situated form of Chinese traditional culture, remain underexplored in depth. Although generative AI supports powerful multimodal generation, current cultural applications largely emphasize aesthetic reproduction and struggle to convey the deeper meanings of cultural rituals and social frameworks. Based on embodied cognition, we propose an AI-driven dual-path framework for cultural understanding, which we instantiate through GatheringSense, a literati-gathering experience. We conduct a mixed-methods study (N=48) to compare how AI-generated multimodal content and embodied participation complement each other in supporting the understanding of literati gatherings and fostering cultural resonance. Our results show that AI-generated content effectively improves the readability of cultural symbols and initial emotional attraction, yet limitations in physical coherence and micro-level credibility may affect users' satisfaction. In contrast, embodied experience significantly deepens participants' understanding of ritual rules and social roles, and increases their psychological closeness and presence. Based on these findings, we offer empirical evidence and five transferable design implications for generative experience in cultural heritage.

Gen-Diaolou: An Integrated AI-Assisted Interactive System for Diachronic Understanding and Preservation of the Kaiping Diaolou

The Kaiping Diaolou and Villages, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, exemplify hybrid Chinese and Western architecture shaped by migration culture. However, architectural heritage engagement often faces authenticity debates, resource constraints, and limited participatory approaches. This research explores current challenges of leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) for architectural heritage, and how AI-assisted interactive systems can foster cultural heritage understanding and preservation awareness. We conducted a formative study (N=14) to uncover empirical insights from heritage stakeholders that inform design. These insights informed the design of Gen-Diaolou, an integrated AI-assisted interactive system that supports heritage understanding and preservation. A pilot study (N=18) and a museum field study (N=26) provided converging evidence suggesting that Gen-Diaolou may support visitors' diachronic understanding and preservation awareness, and together informed design implications for future human-AI collaborative systems for digital cultural heritage engagement. More broadly, this work bridges the research gap between passive heritage systems and unconstrained creative tools in the HCI domain.

Controllable Video Generation: A Survey

With the rapid development of AI-generated content (AIGC), video generation has emerged as one of its most dynamic and impactful subfields. In particular, the advancement of video generation foundation models has led to growing demand for controllable video generation methods that can more accurately reflect user intent. Most existing foundation models are designed for text-to-video generation, where text prompts alone are often insufficient to express complex, multi-modal, and fine-grained user requirements. This limitation makes it challenging for users to generate videos with precise control using current models. To address this issue, recent research has explored the integration of additional non-textual conditions, such as camera motion, depth maps, and human pose, to extend pretrained video generation models and enable more controllable video synthesis. These approaches aim to enhance the flexibility and practical applicability of AIGC-driven video generation systems. In this survey, we provide a systematic review of controllable video generation, covering both theoretical foundations and recent advances in the field. We begin by introducing the key concepts and commonly used open-source video generation models. We then focus on control mechanisms in video diffusion models, analyzing how different types of conditions can be incorporated into the denoising process to guide generation. Finally, we categorize existing methods based on the types of control signals they leverage, including single-condition generation, multi-condition generation, and universal controllable generation. EmoVid: A Multimodal Emotion Video Dataset for Emotion-Centric Video Understanding and Generation

Emotion plays a pivotal role in video-based expression, but existing video generation systems predominantly focus on low-level visual metrics while neglecting affective dimensions. Although emotion analysis has made progress in the visual domain, the video community lacks dedicated resources to bridge emotion understanding with generative tasks, particularly for stylized and non-realistic contexts. To address this gap, we introduce EmoVid, the first multimodal, emotion-annotated video dataset specifically designed for creative media, which includes cartoon animations, movie clips, and animated stickers. Each video is annotated with emotion labels, visual attributes (brightness, colorfulness, hue), and text captions. Through systematic analysis, we uncover spatial and temporal patterns linking visual features to emotional perceptions across diverse video forms. Building on these insights, we develop an emotion-conditioned video generation technique by fine-tuning the Wan2.1 model. The results show a significant improvement in both quantitative metrics and the visual quality of generated videos for text-to-video and image-to-video tasks. EmoVid establishes a new benchmark for affective video computing. Our work not only offers valuable insights into visual emotion analysis in artistically styled videos, but also provides practical methods for enhancing emotional expression in video generation.

Follow-Your-Color: Multi-Instance Sketch Colorization

We present Follow-Your-Color, a diffusion-based framework for multi-instance sketch colorization. The production of multi-instance 2D line art colorization adheres to an industry-standard workflow, which consists of three crucial stages: the design of line art characters, the coloring of individual objects, and the refinement process. The artists are required to repeat the process of coloring each instance one by one, which is inaccurate and inefficient. Meanwhile, current generative methods fail to solve this task due to the challenge of multi-instance pair data collection. To tackle these challenges, we incorporate three technical designs to ensure precise character detail transcription and achieve multi-instance sketch colorization in a single forward pass. Specifically, we first propose the self-play training strategy to address the lack of training data. Then we introduce an instance guider to feed the color of the instance. To achieve accurate color matching, we present fine-grained color matching with edge loss to enhance visual quality. Equipped with the proposed modules, Follow-Your-Color enables automatically transforming sketches into vividly-colored images with accurate consistency and multi-instance control. Experiments on our collected datasets show that our model outperforms existing methods regarding chromatic precision. Specifically, our model critically automates the colorization process with zero manual adjustments, so novice users can produce stylistically consistent artwork by providing reference instances and the original line art. MagicAnime: A Hierarchically Annotated, Multimodal and Multitasking Dataset with Benchmarks for Cartoon Animation Generation

Generating high-quality cartoon animations multimodal control is challenging due to the complexity of non-human characters, stylistically diverse motions and fine-grained emotions. There is a huge domain gap between real-world videos and cartoon animation, as cartoon animation is usually abstract and has exaggerated motion. Meanwhile, public multimodal cartoon data are extremely scarce due to the difficulty of large-scale automatic annotation processes compared with real-life scenarios. To bridge this gap, We propose the MagicAnime dataset, a large-scale, hierarchically annotated, and multimodal dataset designed to support multiple video generation tasks, along with the benchmarks it includes. Containing 400k video clips for image-to-video generation, 50k pairs of video clips and keypoints for whole-body annotation, 12k pairs of video clips for video-to-video face animation, and 2.9k pairs of video and audio clips for audio-driven face animation. Meanwhile, we also build a set of multi-modal cartoon animation benchmarks, called MagicAnime-Bench, to support the comparisons of different methods in the tasks above. Comprehensive experiments on four tasks, including video-driven face animation, audio-driven face animation, image-to-video animation, and pose-driven character animation, validate its effectiveness in supporting high-fidelity, fine-grained, and controllable generation.

DiT4Edit: Diffusion Transformer for Image Editing

Despite recent advances in UNet-based image editing, methods for shape-aware object editing in high-resolution images are still lacking. Compared to UNet, Diffusion Transformers (DiT) demonstrate superior capabilities to effectively capture the long-range dependencies among patches, leading to higher-quality image generation. In this paper, we propose DiT4Edit, the first Diffusion Transformer-based image editing framework. Specifically, DiT4Edit uses the DPM-Solver inversion algorithm to obtain the inverted latents, reducing the number of steps compared to the DDIM inversion algorithm commonly used in UNet-based frameworks. Additionally, we design unified attention control and patches merging, tailored for transformer computation streams. This integration allows our framework to generate higher-quality edited images faster. Our design leverages the advantages of DiT, enabling it to surpass UNet structures in image editing, especially in high-resolution and arbitrary-size images. Extensive experiments demonstrate the strong performance of DiT4Edit across various editing scenarios, highlighting the potential of Diffusion Transformers in supporting image editing.

MagicScroll: Nontypical Aspect-Ratio Image Generation for Visual Storytelling via Multi-Layered Semantic-Aware Denoising

Visual storytelling often uses nontypical aspect-ratio images like scroll paintings, comic strips, and panoramas to create an expressive and compelling narrative. While generative AI has achieved great success and shown the potential to reshape the creative industry, it remains a challenge to generate coherent and engaging content with arbitrary size and controllable style, concept, and layout, all of which are essential for visual storytelling. To overcome the shortcomings of previous methods including repetitive content, style inconsistency, and lack of controllability, we propose MagicScroll, a multi-layered, progressive diffusion-based image generation framework with a novel semantic-aware denoising process. The model enables fine-grained control over the generated image on object, scene, and background levels with text, image, and layout conditions. We also establish the first benchmark for nontypical aspect-ratio image generation for visual storytelling including mediums like paintings, comics, and cinematic panoramas, with customized metrics for systematic evaluation. Through comparative and ablation studies, MagicScroll showcases promising results in aligning with the narrative text, improving visual coherence, and engaging the audience. We plan to release the code and benchmark in the hope of a better collaboration between AI researchers and creative practitioners involving visual storytelling.
