Lepton flavour violating decay of 125 GeV Higgs boson to $μτ$ channel and excess in $t\bar t H$

A recent search for the lepton flavor violating (LFV) decays of the Higgs boson, performed by CMS collaboration, reports an interesting deviation from the standard model (SM). The search conducted in the channel $H\rightarrow μτ_e$ and $H\rightarrow μτ_{\textrm{had}}$ shows an excess of $2.4σ$ signal events with 19.7 fb$^{-1}$ data at a center-of-mass energy $\sqrt s=8$ TeV. On the other hand, a search performed by CMS collaboration for the SM Higgs boson produced in association with a top quark pair ($t\bar t H$) also showed an excess in the same-sign di-muon final state. In this work we try to find out if these two seemingly uncorrelated excesses are related or not. Our analysis reveals that a lepton flavour violating Higgs decay ($H\rightarrowμτ$) can partially explain the excess in the same sign di-muon final state in the $t\bar t H$ search, infact brings down the excess well within 2$σ$ error of the SM expectation. Probing such non-standard Higgs boson decay is of interest and might contain hints of new physics at the electroweak scale.

Study of MSSM heavy Higgs bosons decaying into charginos and neutralinos

A multitude of searches have already been performed by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations at the LHC to probe the heavy Higgses of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) through their decay to the Standard Model particles. In this paper, we study the decay of the MSSM heavy Higgses into neutralino and chargino pairs and estimate the maximum possible branching ratios for these `ino' modes being consistent with the present LHC data. After performing a random scan of the relevant electroweakino parameters, we impose the SM 125 GeV Higgs constraints, low energy flavour data as well as current bounds on heavy Higgses from the LHC run-I and run-II data. The present limits on the electroweakino masses and couplings are also considered in our analysis. We choose a few representative benchmark points satisfying all the above-mentioned constraints, and then perform a detailed collider simulation, including fast detector effects, and analyze all the potential SM backgrounds in order to estimate the discovery reach of these heavy Higgses at the LHC. We restrict ourselves within the leptonic cascade decay modes of these heavy Higgses and study the mono-X + MET (X=W,Z) and trilepton + MET signatures in the context of high luminosity run of the 14 TeV LHC.

The Lepton Flavour Violating Higgs Decays at the HL-LHC and the ILC

Run-I results from the CMS collaboration show an excess of events in the decay $h \to μτ_e$ with a local significances of 2.4$σ$. This could be the first hint of flavour violation in the Higgs sector. We summarise the bounds on the flavour violating Yukawa couplings from direct searches, low energy measurements and projected future experiments. We discuss the sensitivity of upcoming HL-LHC runs and future lepton colliders in measuring lepton-flavour violating couplings using an effective field theory framework. For the HL-LHC we find limits on BR($h\to μτ$) and BR$(h\to e τ) \lesssim \mathcal{O}(0.5)\%$ and on BR($h \to e μ) \lesssim \mathcal{O}(0.02)\%$. For an ILC with center-of-mass energy of 1 TeV we expect BR($h \to e τ$) and BR($h\to μτ$) to be measurable down to $\mathcal{O}(0.2)\%$.

Status of the 98 - 125 GeV Higgs scenario with updated LHC-8 data

In the context of minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), we discuss the possibility of the lightest Higgs boson with mass $M_h = 98 $ GeV to be consistent with the $2.3σ$ excess observed at the LEP in the decay mode $e^+e^- \to Zh$, with $h \to b {\bar b}$. In the same region of the MSSM parameter space, the heavier Higgs boson $(H)$ with mass $M_H \sim 125 $ GeV is required to be consistent with the latest data on Higgs coupling measurements at the end of 7 + 8 TeV LHC run with $25{\rm fb}^{-1}$ of data. While scanning the MSSM parameter space, we impose constraints coming from flavour physics, relic density of the cold dark matter as well as direct dark matter searches. We study the possibility of observing this light Higgs boson in vector boson fusion process and associated production with $W/Z$ boson at the high luminosity $(3000~{\rm fb}^{-1})$ run of the 14 TeV LHC. Our analysis shows that this scenario can hardly be ruled out even at the high luminosity run of the LHC. However, the precise measurement of the Higgs signal strength ratios can play a major role to distinguish this scenario from the canonical MSSM one.

Status of MSSM Higgs Sector using Global Analysis and Direct Search Bounds, and Future Prospects at the HL-LHC

In this paper, we search for the regions of the phenomenological minimal supersymmetric standard model (pMSSM) parameter space where one can expect to have moderate Higgs mixing angle ($α$) with relatively light (up to 600 GeV) additional Higgses after satisfying the current LHC data. We perform a global fit analysis using most updated data (till December 2014) from the LHC and Tevatron experiments. The constraints coming from the precision measurements of the rare b-decays $B_s \to μ^+ μ^-$ and $b\to s γ$ are also considered. We find that low $M_{A}$ $(\lesssim 350)$ and high $\tanβ$ $(\gtrsim 25)$ regions are disfavored by the combined effect of the global analysis and flavour data. However, regions with Higgs mixing angle $α\sim$ 0.1 - 0.8 are still allowed by the current data. We then study the existing direct search bounds on the heavy scalar/pseudoscalar ($\rm H/A$) and charged Higgs boson ($\rm H^\pm$) masses and branchings at the LHC. It has been found that regions with low to moderate values of $\tanβ$ with light additional Higgses (mass $\le$ 600 GeV) are unconstrained by the data, while the regions with $\tanβ>$ 20 are excluded considering the direct search bounds by the LHC-8 data. The possibility to probe the region with $\tanβ$ $\le$ 20 at the high luminosity run of LHC are also discussed, giving special attention to the $\rm H \to hh$, $\rm H/{A} \to t \bar t$ and $\rm H/{A} \to τ^{+}τ^{-}$ decay modes.

Alternative search strategies for a BSM resonance fitting ATLAS diboson excess

We study an s-channel resonance $R$ as a viable candidate to fit the diboson excess reported by ATLAS. We compute the contribution of the $\sim 2$ TeV resonance $R$ to semileptonic and leptonic final states at 13 TeV LHC. To explain the absence of an excess in semileptonic channel, we explore the possibility where the particle $R$ decays to additional light scalars $X,X$ or $X,Y$. Modified analysis strategy has been proposed to study three particle final state of the resonance decay and to identify decay channels of $X$. Associated production of $R$ with gauge bosons has been studied in detail to identify the production mechanism of $R$. We construct comprehensive categories for vector and scalar BSM particles which may play the role of particles $R$, $X$, $Y$ and find alternate channels to fix the new couplings and search for these particles.

Probing Higgs couplings at LHC and beyond

The study of the Higgs couplings following its discovery is the priority of future LHC runs. A hint of anomalous nature will be exhibited via its coupling to the Standard Model(SM) particles and open up new domain of phenomenological study of physics beyond the Standard Model. The enhanced statistics from next LHC runs will enable entry into the precision era to study the properties of Higgs with greater details. In this paper we present how one can extract Higgs couplings in future LHC runs at 14 TeV via $H \rightarrow Z Z^* \rightarrow 4 \ell$, using observables constructed from angular distributions for the Standard Model Higgs and Higgs with mixed CP configuration. We show how angular asymmetries can be used to measure the ratios of the couplings and the relative phases at LHC. We benchmark our analysis finding out the angular asymmetries and the best fit values of the ratios of the couplings for SM Higgs, CP-odd admixture, CP-even higher derivative contribution and when CP-even higher derivative contribution and CP-odd admixture are both present. In the Standard Model, $HZZ$ couplings have no momentum dependence. It is thus essential to demonstrate the momentum independence of the couplings to establish the couplings are SM like in nature. In this work we show how one can test the momentum independence of the Standard Model like coupling using angular asymmetries. We develop the necessary tools and demonstrate how to study the momentum dependence can be studied at future LHC runs.

The role of MSSM heavy Higgs production in the self coupling measurement of the 125 GeV Higgs boson at the LHC

Measurement of the self coupling of 125 GeV Higgs boson is one of the most crucial tasks for high luminosity run of the LHC and it can only be measured in the di-Higgs final state. In the minimal supersymmetric standard model, heavy CP even Higgs ($H$) can decay into lighter 125 GeV Higgs boson ($h$) and therefore influence the di-Higgs production. We investigate the role of single $H$ production in the measurement of self coupling of $h$. We find that $H \rightarrow hh$ decay can nontrivially affect the $h$ self coupling measurement in low tan$β$ regime when the mass of the heavy Higgs boson lies between 250 - 600 GeV and depending on the parameter space it may be seen as an enhancement of the self coupling of 125 GeV Higgs boson.

Associated jet and subjet rates in light-quark and gluon jet discrimination

We show that in studies of light quark- and gluon-initiated jet discrimination, it is important to include the information on softer reconstructed jets (associated jets) around a primary hard jet. This is particularly relevant while adopting a small radius parameter for reconstructing hadronic jets. The probability of having an associated jet as a function of the primary jet transverse momentum ($p_T$) and radius, the minimum associated jet $p_T$ and the association radius is computed upto next-to-double logarithmic accuracy (NDLA), and the predictions are compared with results from Herwig++, Pythia6 and Pythia8 Monte Carlos (MC). We demonstrate the improvement in quark-gluon discrimination on using the associated jet rate variable with the help of a multivariate analysis. The associated jet rates are found to be only mildly sensitive to the choice of parton shower and hadronization algorithms, as well as to the effects of initial state radiation and underlying event. In addition, the number of $k_T$ subjets of an anti-$k_T$ jet is found to be an observable that leads to a rather uniform prediction across different MC's, broadly being in agreement with predictions in NDLA, as compared to the often used number of charged tracks observable.

Wino Dark Matter and Future dSph Observations

We discuss the indirect detection of the wino dark matter utilizing gamma-ray observations of dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSphs). After carefully reviewing current limits with particular attention to astrophysical uncertainties, we show prospects of the wino mass limit in future gamma-ray observation by the Fermi-LAT and the GAMMA-400 telescopes. We find that the improvement of the so-called $J$-factor of both the classical and the ultra-faint dSphs will play a crucial role to cover whole mass range of the wino dark matter. For example, with $δ(\log_{10}J) = 0.1$ for both the classical and the ultra-faint dSphs, whole wino dark matter mass range can be covered by 15 years and 10 years data at the Fermi-LAT and GAMMA-400 telescopes, respectively.

Study of Baryonic R-Parity Violating MSSM Using Jet Substructure Technique at the 14 TeV LHC

We study the discovery reach of the gluino ($\widetilde{g}$) and the lightest stop squark ($\widetilde{t}_1$) with baryonic R-parity violation (UDD type) in the context of Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) at the 14 TeV run of the LHC. We consider the gluino pair production process followed by its decay to a top quark and a real or virtual stop squark. The top quark produced from the decay of the gluino can have sufficient transverse momentum to appear as a single fat jet. We apply the jet substructure technique to tag such a hadronically decaying boosted top quark and find that gluino mass up to 1.65 TeV can be discovered whereas exclusion limit extends up to 1.9 TeV at the 14 TeV LHC with 300 $\rm fb^{-1}$ luminosity. We also briefly discuss the discovery prospect of the boosted stop squark which may be identified as a narrow resonance in the jet mass distribution.

Compressed SUSY at 14 TeV LHC

In this work we study the collider phenomenology of a compressed supersymmetric model with gluino and the lightest neutralino. All other sparticles are assumed to be heavy. We consider gluino pair production at the 14 TeV LHC and present the mass reach of gluino as a function of mass splitting between gluino and the the lightest neutralino. We find that the gluino mass below 1 TeV can be excluded at 95% CL with integrated luminosity of 100 fb$^{-1}$ for extreme degenerate case where mass separation between gluino and the lightest neutralino is about 20 GeV. On the other hand, the lower bound on the mass of gluino increases to 1.2 - 1.3 TeV if the mass splitting between the gluino and neutralino is about 200 GeV. This result shows that for degenerate gluino, the current mass limit may extend approximately 400-500 GeV at 14 TeV LHC.

A practical GMSB model for explaining the muon (g-2) with gauge coupling unification

We present a gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking model having weak SU(2) triplet, color SU(3) octet and SU(5) 5-plet messengers, that can simultaneously explain the muon $(g-2)$ data within 1$σ$ and the observed Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV. Gauge coupling unification is nontrivially maintained. Most of the parameter space satisfying both is accessible to the 14 TeV LHC. The lighter of the two staus weighs around (100-200) GeV, which can be a potential target of the ILC.

Phenomenology of Light Fermionic Asymmetric Dark Matter

Asymmetric dark matter (ADM) has been an attractive possibility attempting to explain the observed ratio of baryon to dark matter abundance in the universe. While a bosonic ADM is constrained by the limits from existence of old neutron stars, a fermionic ADM requires an additional light particle in order to annihilate its symmetric component in the early universe. We revisit the phenomenology of a minimal GeV scale fermionic ADM model including a light scalar state. The current constraints on this scenario from cosmology, dark matter direct detection, flavour physics and collider searches are investigated in detail. We estimate the future reach on the model parameter space from next-generation dark matter direct detection experiments, Higgs boson property measurements and search for light scalars at the LHC, as well as the determination of Higgs invisible branching ratio at the proposed ILC.

A natural scenario for heavy colored and light uncolored superpartners

Influenced by the current trend of experimental data, especially from the LHC, we construct a supersymmetric scenario where a natural dynamics makes the squarks and gluino super-heavy (order 10 TeV) while keeping the sleptons and the weak gauginos light (100-500 GeV). The dynamics relies on the interfusion of two underlying ideas: ($i$) gauge mediation of supersymmetry breaking with two messenger multiplets, one transforming as a triplet of weak SU(2) and the other as an octet of color SU(3); ($ii$) perturbative gauge coupling unification at the string scale even with these incomplete SU(5) multiplets. Interestingly, the relative magnitude of the triplet and octet messenger scales that ensures gauge unification at the two-loop level also helps to naturally keep the uncolored superpartners light while making the colored ones heavy.

Implications of 98 GeV and 125 GeV Higgs scenario in non-decoupling SUSY with updated ATLAS, CMS and PLANCK data

We discuss both MSSM and NMSSM scenarios in which the lightest Higgs boson with $m_h=98$~GeV is consistent with the small excess ($\sim 2.3 σ$) observed at the LEP in $e^+ e^-\rightarrow Zh$, with $h \rightarrow b {\bar b}$ process and the heavier Higgs boson of mass close to 125~GeV as the observed candidate of the SM Higgs like particle at the LHC. We show the allowed regions in the non-decoupling Higgs zone of MSSM parameter space which are consistent with several low energy constraints coming from heavy flavour physics, latest experimental data on Higgs signals and lower limit on superparticle masses from 7~TeV and 8~TeV LHC run. We also implement the constraints from the relic density of the cold dark matter as obtained from the recent PLANCK data. Additionally, we discuss the possibility of observing the light Higgs boson of mass 98~GeV at the 14~TeV LHC run via $pp \rightarrow V h$, with $h \rightarrow b \bar b$ using the technique of jet substructure. Our analysis shows that at 14~TeV LHC run with 300 ${\rm fb}^{-1}$ luminosity the signal efficiency of such a light Higgs boson is at most 2.5$σ$. Finally, we make a comment on the prospect of proposed $e^+ e^-$ ILC to discover/exclude this light Higgs boson.

Model Independent Analysis of Interactions between Dark Matter and Various Quarks

Present and future expected limits on interactions between dark matter and various quarks are thoroughly investigated in a model-independent way. In particular, the constraints on the interactions from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) experiment are carefully considered with focusing on mono jet + missing transverse energy, mono b-jet + missing transverse energy, and top quark(s) + missing transverse energy channels. Model-independent upper limits (expected limits) on the cross section times acceptance for non-standard model events are derived at 7 TeV (8 or 14 TeV) running of the LHC experiment. With assuming that the dark matter is a singlet real scalar or a singlet Majorana fermion, we also put constraints on several operators describing its interactions with up, down, strange, charm, bottom and top quarks. These constraints are compared to those obtained by cosmological and astrophysical observations of the dark matter.

Top Polarization and Stop Mixing from Boosted Jet Substructure

Top polarization is an important probe of new physics that couples to the top sector, and which may be discovered at the 14 TeV LHC. Taking the example of the MSSM, we argue that top polarization measurements can put a constraint on the soft supersymmetry breaking parameter A_t. In light of the recent discovery of a Higgs-like boson of mass ~125 GeV, a large A_t is a prediction of many supersymmetric models. To this end, we develop a *detector level* analysis methodology for extracting polarization information from hadronic tops using boosted jet substructure. We show that with 100 fb^(-1) of data, left and right 600 GeV stops can be distinguished to 4σ, and 800 GeV stops can be distinguished to 3σ.
