Optical and cm follow-ups of the Changing-Look event in Mkn 590

The Changing-Look active galactic nucleus Mkn 590 is currently in a rejuvenated state, exhibiting a contemporaneous flux rise across X-rays, UV, optical and cm wavelengths. In this study, we present three new optical spectra obtained with the Nordic Optical Telescope, alongside three 1.4 GHz continuum measurements from the Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope, acquired since Nov. 2024. We identified a clear increase in the broad hydrogen Balmer line emission in the most recent observational epochs. Additionally, the core radio flux densities appear to track the overall X-ray variability, suggesting a possible connection between the accretion flow and jet activity. Based on these data, we aim to explore the evolution of the circumnuclear gas in this source and potential links between accretion and ejection activity.

A constant pressure model for the warm absorber in Mrk 509

We present the analysis of 900 ks high-resolution RGS XMM-Newton observations of the nearby Seyfert galaxy Mrk 509 with the use of a self-consistent warm absorber (WA) model. We perform a physically motivated approach to the modeling of WA as a stratified medium in constant total pressure (CTP) regime. Powerful outflows are fundamental ingredients of any active galactic nuclei (AGN) structure. They may significantly affect the cosmological environment of their host galaxy. High-resolution X-ray data are best suited for outflow's studies, and the observed absorption lines on heavy elements are evidence of the physical properties of an absorbing gas. Our models allow us to fit continuum shapes bounded together with the line profiles, which gives additional constraints on the gas structure of WA in this source. In this work, we benchmark and test the CTP model on the soft X-ray spectrum of Mrk 509. A grid of synthetic absorbed spectra was computed with the photoionization code Titan assuming that the system was under CTP. As an illuminating spectral energy distribution (SED), we used the most actual multiwavelength observations available for Mrk 509. We apply these models to the high-resolution spectrum of the WA in the Mrk 509, taking into account cold/warm/hot Galactic absorption on the way to the observer. CTP gas with $\log \xi_{0} \sim 1.9$, defined on the cloud surface, fits the data well. A higher ionization component is needed for Ne X absorption. The best-fit model is optically thin with $\log N_{\rm H }= 20.456 \pm 0.016$. The lines are non-saturated, and the CTP spectral fit aligns with previous analyses of Mrk 509 with a constant density WA. The model constrains the gas density, placing the WA cloud at 0.02 pc, consistent with the inner broad line region and the thickening region of the accretion disk.

Distinct Fe-K Line Complexes in MAXI J1744-294 Revealed by XRISM High-Resolution Spectroscopy

The newly discovered Galactic transient MAXI J1744-294 went into its first X-ray outburst in 2025. We study the spectral properties of this source in the 2-10 keV energy band during this outburst using X-ray data from the XRISM satellite for both of its Resolve and Xtend instruments, taken on March 03, 2025. High-resolution spectroscopy has revealed, for the first time, complex iron line features in this source, corresponding to distinct components of Fe XXV emission and Fe XXVI absorption lines. Such a detailed structure has not been reported in other low-mass X-ray binaries to date, prior to the XRISM era. Our analysis shows that the line complexes arise from two highly ionized plasmas with ionization rate ~ 1000 erg-cm/s with distinct turbulent velocities: one broad (~2513 km/s) from hot gas at the inner accretion disk and one narrow (~153 km/s) scattered by nearby photoionized gas. These results offer new insight into the reprocessing of continuum in stratified media, either in the accretion disk or winds, or both, for XRBs in the soft state. The data are well described by models with spin, mass of the black hole, and accretion disk inclination 0.63-0.70, 5.7-10.1 Solar masses, and 19-24 degrees. The fitted spectral model parameters suggest that the source is in the soft spectral state. The source is situated in a crowded field near the Galactic center, resulting in a large hydrogen column density.

AT 2019aalc: a Bowen Fluorescence Flare With a Precursor Flare in an Active Galactic Nucleus

AT 2019aalc is a peculiar sequence of highly variable emission events observed towards the nucleus of the broad-line AGN SDSS J152416.66+045119.0. The system exhibited two distinct UV/optical flares (the first detected in 2019, the second one in 2023). Spectra obtained following the detection of the second flare revealed prominent Bowen fluorescence and high-ionization coronal emission lines, which were much weaker, if at all detectable, in a spectrum taken following the first flare. We present and analyze a large set of multi-wavelength, multi-epoch data for this source, with particular emphasis on optical spectroscopic monitoring conducted with the Las Cumbres Observatory network. During the relatively slow dimming that followed the second optical flare, the UV/optical light-curve shows a sequence of minor rebrightening events, while the Bowen fluorescence and the coronal lines vary (roughly) in tandem with these "bumps" in the broad-band light-curve. Most of the observed behavior of AT 2019aalc links it to the growing class of Bowen fluorescence flares (BFFs) while setting it apart from canonical tidal disruption events. However, AT 2019aalc has some outstanding peculiarities, including two short flares seen in its soft X-ray light-curve during the dimming phase of the second optical flare, and which do not seem to be linked to the emission line variations. We discuss the optical and X-ray properties of the source and possible scenarios of the origin of the flare, in particular radiation pressure instabilities in the (pre-existing) AGN accretion disk.

Markarian 590: The AGN Awakens

Changing-Look AGN (CLAGN) Mkn 590 recently underwent a sudden re-ignition, marked by substantial increases in optical/UV and X-ray continuum flux since last couple of years. Swift-XRT observations revealed the re-emergence of a soft X-ray excess (SXE) as the source transitioned from a low-flux state in July 2023 to a significantly higher flux state in October 2024. This evolution was in response to an order-of-magnitude increase in extreme-UV (EUV) continuum emission, detected by Swift-UVOT. Follow-up optical spectra from FLOYDS Faulkes confirmed the enhancement of dynamically broadened Balmer lines, He II emission, and Fe II complex. As the Eddington fraction increased by a factor of $\sim$ 20 over the last 20 months, we found clear evidence of formation of a warm corona, strongly linked to the cold accretion disc underneath. Based on our multi-wavelength study on recent data, we propose that Mkn 590 is currently becoming a Seyfert-1.2, similar to its state in 1990s.

Broadband X-ray spectral analysis of the ULX NGC 1313\,X-1 using JeTCAF: Origin of the ULX bubble

NGC 1313\,X-1 is a mysterious Ultra-luminous X-ray (ULX) source whose X-ray powering mechanism and a bubble-like structure surrounding the source are topics of intense study. Here, we perform the X-ray spectroscopic study of the source using a joint {\it XMM-Newton} and {\it NuSTAR} observations taken during 2012 $-$ 2017. The combined spectra cover the energy band 0.3 $-$ 20 keV. We use the accretion-ejection-based JeTCAF model for spectral analysis. The model fitted disc mass accretion rate varies from 4.6 to 9.6 $\dot M_{\rm Edd}$ and the halo mass accretion rate varies from 4.0 to 6.1 $\dot M_{\rm Edd}$ with a dynamic Comptonizing corona of average size of $\sim 15$ $r_g$. The data fitting is carried out for different black hole (BH) mass values. The goodness of the fit and uncertainties in model parameters improve while using higher BH mass with most probable mass of the compact object to be $133\pm33$ M$_\odot$. We have estimated the mass outflow rate, its velocity and power, and the age of the inflated bubble surrounding the source. Our estimated bubble morphology is in accord with the observed optical bubble and winds found through high-resolution X-ray spectroscopy, suggesting that the bubble expanded by the outflows originating from the central source. Finally, we conclude that the super-Eddington accretion onto a nearly intermediate mass BH may power a ULX when the accretion efficiency is low, though their efficiency increases when jet/outflow is taken into account, in agreement with numerical simulations in the literature.

Study of accretion flows around an ultraluminous X-ray source M82 X-1 using NuSTAR data

We study the spectral properties and accretion flow behavior of an ultraluminous X-ray source M82\,X-1 using {\it NuSTAR} observations. We use the physical two component advective flow (TCAF) model to fit the data and to derive the accretion flow properties of the source. From the model fitted parameters, we found that M82\,X-1 is harboring an intermediate mass black hole at its centre, where the mass varies from $156.04^{+13.51}_{-15.30}$ to $380.96^{28.38}_{-29.76}$ M$_\odot$. The error weighted average mass of the black hole is $273\pm43$ M$_\odot$, which accreted in nearly super-Eddington rate. The Compton cloud was compact with a size of $\sim13 r_g$ and the shock compression ratio had \textcolor{black}{nearly intermediate values except for the epoch four}. These indicate a possible significant mass outflow from the inner region of the disk. The quasi periodic oscillation (QPO) frequencies estimated from the model fitted parameters can reproduce the observed QPOs. The robustness of the model parameters is verified by drawing the confidence contours among them.
