Gravitational Wave Signal Denoising and Merger Time Prediction By Deep Neural Network

The mergers of massive black hole binaries could generate rich electromagnetic emissions, which allow us to probe the environments surrounding these massive black holes and gain deeper insights into the high energy astrophysics. However, due to the short timescale of binary mergers, it is crucial to predict the time of the merger in advance to devise detailed observational plans. The overwhelming noise and the slow accumulation of signal-to-noise ratio in the inspiral phase make this task particularly challenging. To address this issue, we propose a novel deep neural denoising network in this study, capable of denoising a 30-day inspiral phase signal. Following the denoising process, we perform the detection and merger time prediction based on the denoised signals. Our results demonstrate that for a 30-day inspiral phase data with a signal-to-noise ratio between 10 and 50 occurring no more than 10 days before the merger, our absolute prediction error for the merger time is generally within 24 hours.

Rapid Parameter Estimation for Merging Massive Black Hole Binaries Using Continuous Normalizing Flows

Detecting the coalescences of massive black hole binaries (MBHBs) is one of the primary targets for space-based gravitational wave observatories such as LISA, Taiji, and Tianqin. The fast and accurate parameter estimation of merging MBHBs is of great significance for the global fitting of all resolvable sources, as well as the astrophysical interpretation of gravitational wave signals. However, such analyses usually entail significant computational costs. To address these challenges, inspired by the latest progress in generative models, we explore the application of continuous normalizing flows (CNFs) on the parameter estimation of MBHBs. Specifically, we employ linear interpolation and trig interpolation methods to construct transport paths for training CNFs. Additionally, we creatively introduce a parameter transformation method based on the symmetry in the detector's response function. This transformation is integrated within CNFs, allowing us to train the model using a simplified dataset, and then perform parameter estimation on more general data, hence also acting as a crucial factor in improving the training speed. In conclusion, for the first time, within a comprehensive and reasonable parameter range, we have achieved a complete and unbiased 11-dimensional rapid inference for MBHBs in the presence of astrophysical confusion noise using CNFs. In the experiments based on simulated data, our model produces posterior distributions comparable to those obtained by nested sampling.

Holographic images of a charged black hole in Lorentz symmetry breaking massive gravity

Using the AdS/CFT correspondence, this paper investigates the holographic images of a charged black hole within the context of Lorentz symmetry breaking massive gravity. The photon rings, luminosity-deformed rings, or light points from various observational perspectives are obtained. We also study the influences of both the chemical potential and temperature on the Einstein ring. Unlike the previous work, which primarily examines the effect of chemical potential on ring radius at high temperatures and find no change in the radius with varying chemical potential, we also investigate the effect of chemical potential on the ring radius at low temperature besides at high temperature. Our findings indicate that at low temperatures, the photon ring radius decreases with increasing of chemical potential, while at high temperatures, the results are consistent with previous studies. Additionally, we explore the impact of the model parameter λ on the Einstein ring radius and find the the ring radius increases as the model parameter λ increases. More interestingly, for the large chemical potential, u = 1, the temperature dependence of the photon ring radius is reversed for λ = 2 and λ = 4. Conversely, for a small chemical potential u = 0.1, the temperature dependence of the Einstein ring stays the same as λ = 2 and λ = 4.

Fluctuation-dissipation relation of test masses in classical stochastic gravitational wave background

Research on pulsar timing arrays has provided preliminary evidence for the existence of a stochastic gravitational background, which, either being primordial or of astrophysical origin, will interact universally with matter distributions in our universe and affect their evolutions. This work, based on general relativity and stochastic dynamics theory, investigates the fluctuation-dissipation relation of isolated celestial bodies within a classical stochastic gravitational wave background. We employ the generalized Langevin model to analyze the fluctuating forces exerted on test masses by random spacetime and how energy dissipation occurs. Through the assumption of equilibrium, we derive the necessary conditions that should be satisfied by the stochastic gravitational wave background in the long wavelength limit, which, as we found, is a result of the back-reactions of the test mass system to the stochastic field. Additionally, as the establishment of the fluctuation-dissipation relation for such a system, certain thermodynamic quantities related to the statistical properties of the stochastic gravitational wave background could be defined and the characteristic of the diffusion process of test masses is obtained.

Gravitational Wave Signal Extraction Against Non-Stationary Instrumental Noises with Deep Neural Network

Sapce-borne gravitational wave antennas, such as LISA and LISA-like mission (Taiji and Tianqin), will offer novel perspectives for exploring our Universe while introduce new challenges, especially in data analysis. Aside from the known challenges like high parameter space dimension, superposition of large number of signals etc., gravitational wave detections in space would be more seriously affected by anomalies or non-stationarities in the science measurements. Considering the three types of foreseeable non-stationarities including data gaps, transients (glitches), and time-varying noise auto-correlations, which may come from routine maintenance or unexpected disturbances during science operations, we developed a deep learning model for accurate signal extractions confronted with such anomalous scenarios. Our model exhibits the same performance as the current state-of-the-art models do for the ideal and anomaly free scenario, while shows remarkable adaptability in extractions of coalescing massive black hole binary signal against all three types of non-stationarities and even their mixtures. This also provide new explorations into the robustness studies of deep learning models for data processing in space-borne gravitational wave missions.

Rapid Parameter Estimation for Extreme Mass Ratio Inspirals Using Machine Learning

Extreme-mass-ratio inspiral (EMRI) signals pose significant challenges in gravitational wave (GW) astronomy owing to their low-frequency nature and highly complex waveforms, which occupy a high-dimensional parameter space with numerous variables. Given their extended inspiral timescales and low signal-to-noise ratios, EMRI signals warrant prolonged observation periods. Parameter estimation becomes particularly challenging due to non-local parameter degeneracies, arising from multiple local maxima, as well as flat regions and ridges inherent in the likelihood function. These factors lead to exceptionally high time complexity for parameter analysis while employing traditional matched filtering and random sampling methods. To address these challenges, the present study applies machine learning to Bayesian posterior estimation of EMRI signals, leveraging the recently developed flow matching technique based on ODE neural networks. Our approach demonstrates computational efficiency several orders of magnitude faster than the traditional Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods, while preserving the unbiasedness of parameter estimation. We show that machine learning technology has the potential to efficiently handle the vast parameter space, involving up to seventeen parameters, associated with EMRI signals. Furthermore, to our knowledge, this is the first instance of applying machine learning, specifically the Continuous Normalizing Flows (CNFs), to EMRI signal analysis. Our findings highlight the promising potential of machine learning in EMRI waveform analysis, offering new perspectives for the advancement of space-based GW detection and GW astronomy.

Application Research On Real-Time Perception Of Device Performance Status

In order to accurately identify the performance status of mobile devices and finely adjust the user experience, a real-time performance perception evaluation method based on TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) combined with entropy weighting method and time series model construction was studied. After collecting the performance characteristics of various mobile devices, the device performance profile was fitted by using PCA (principal component analysis) dimensionality reduction and feature engineering methods such as descriptive time series analysis. The ability of performance features and profiles to describe the real-time performance status of devices was understood and studied by applying the TOPSIS method and multi-level weighting processing. A time series model was constructed for the feature set under objective weighting, and multiple sensitivity (real-time, short-term, long-term) performance status perception results were provided to obtain real-time performance evaluation data and long-term stable performance prediction data. Finally, by configuring dynamic AB experiments and overlaying fine-grained power reduction strategies, the usability of the method was verified, and the accuracy of device performance status identification and prediction was compared with the performance of the profile features including dimensionality reduction time series modeling, TOPSIS method and entropy weighting method, subjective weighting, HMA method. The results show that accurate real-time performance perception results can greatly enhance business value, and this research has application effectiveness and certain forward-looking significance.

Absence of BCS-BEC Crossover in FeSe0.45Te0 55 Superconductor

In iron-based superconductor Fe(Se,Te), a flat band-like feature near the Fermi level was observed around the Brillouin zone center in the superconducting state. It is under debate whether this is the evidence on the presence of the BCS-BEC crossover in the superconductor. High-resolution laser-based angle-resolved photoemission measurements are carried out on high quality single crystals of FeSe0.45Te0.55 superconductor to address the issue. By employing different polarization geometries, we have resolved and isolated the dyz band and the topological surface band, making it possible to study their superconducting behaviors separately. The dyz band alone does not form a flat band-like feature in the superconducting state and the measured dispersion can be well described by the BCS picture. We find that the flat band-like feature is formed from the combination of the dyz band and the topological surface state band in the superconducting state. These results reveal the origin of the flat band-like feature and rule out the presence of BCS-BEC crossover in Fe(Se,Te) superconductor.

Orbital-Dependent Electron Correlation in Double-Layer Nickelate La3Ni2O7

The latest discovery of high temperature superconductivity near 80K in La3Ni2O7 under high pressure has attracted much attention. Many proposals are put forth to understand the origin of superconductivity. The determination of electronic structures is a prerequisite to establish theories to understand superconductivity in nickelates but is still lacking. Here we report our direct measurement of the electronic structures of La3Ni2O7 by high-resolution angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy. The Fermi surface and band structures of La3Ni2O7 are observed and compared with the band structure calculations. Strong electron correlations are revealed which are orbital- and momentum dependent. A flat band is formed from the Ni-3dz2 orbitals around the zone corner which is ~50meV below the Fermi level and exhibits the strongest electron correlation. In many theoretical proposals, this band is expected to play the dominant role in generating superconductivity in La3Ni2O7. Our observations provide key experimental information to understand the electronic structure and origin of high temperature superconductivity in La3Ni2O7.

Radio Frequency Interference Detection Using Efficient Multi-Scale Convolutional Attention UNet

Studying the universe through radio telescope observation is crucial. However, radio telescopes capture not only signals from the universe but also various interfering signals, known as Radio Frequency Interference (RFI). The presence of RFI can significantly impact data analysis. Ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and scientific integrity of research findings by detecting and mitigating or eliminating RFI in observational data, presents a persistent challenge in radio astronomy. In this study, we proposed a novel deep learning model called EMSCA-UNet for RFI detection. The model employs multi-scale convolutional operations to extract RFI features of various scale sizes. Additionally, an attention mechanism is utilized to assign different weights to the extracted RFI feature maps, enabling the model to focus on vital features for RFI detection. We evaluated the performance of the model using real data observed from the 40-meter radio telescope at Yunnan Observatory. Furthermore, we compared our results to other models, including U-Net, RFI-Net, and R-Net, using four commonly employed evaluation metrics: precision, recall, F1 score, and IoU. The results demonstrate that our model outperforms the other models on all evaluation metrics, achieving an average improvement of approximately 5\% compared to U-Net. Our model not only enhances the accuracy and comprehensiveness of RFI detection but also provides more detailed edge detection while minimizing the loss of useful signals.

van Hove Singularity-Driven Emergence of Multiple Flat Bands in Kagome Superconductors

The newly discovered Kagome superconductors AV$_3$Sb$_5$ (A=K, Rb and Cs) continue to bring surprises in generating unusual phenomena and physical properties, including anomalous Hall effect, unconventional charge density wave, electronic nematicity and time-reversal symmetry breaking. Here we report an unexpected emergence of multiple flat bands in the AV$_3$Sb$_5$ superconductors. By performing high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission (ARPES) measurements, we observed four branches of flat bands that span over the entire momentum space. The appearance of the flat bands is not anticipated from the band structure calculations and cannot be accounted for by the known mechanisms of flat band generation. It is intimately related to the evolution of van Hove singularities. It is for the first time to observe such emergence of multiple flat bands in solid materials. Our findings provide new insights in revealing the underlying mechanism that governs the unusual behaviors in the Kagome superconductors. They also provide a new pathway in producing flat bands and set a platform to study the flat bands related physics.

Advancing Space-Based Gravitational Wave Astronomy: Rapid Parameter Estimation via Normalizing Flows

Gravitational wave (GW) astronomy is witnessing a transformative shift from terrestrial to space-based detection, with missions like Taiji at the forefront. While the transition brings unprecedented opportunities for exploring massive black hole binaries (MBHBs), it also imposes complex challenges in data analysis, particularly in parameter estimation amidst confusion noise. Addressing this gap, we utilize scalable normalizing flow models to achieve rapid and accurate inference within the Taiji environment. Innovatively, our approach simplifies the data's complexity, employs a transformation mapping to overcome the year-period time-dependent response function, and unveils additional multimodality in the arrival time parameter. Our method estimates MBHBs several orders of magnitude faster than conventional techniques, maintaining high accuracy even in complex backgrounds. These findings significantly enhance the efficiency of GW data analysis, paving the way for rapid detection and alerting systems and enriching our ability to explore the universe through space-based GW observation.

Spectroscopic Evidence for Dirac Nodal Surfaces and Nodal Rings in Superconductor NaAlSi

The discovery of the topological states has become a key topic in condensed matter physics with the focus evolving from the Dirac or Weyl points to high-dimension topological states of the nodal lines and nodal surfaces. For a topological material to manifest its quantum properties and become useful in applications, the topological states need to be genuine and clean so that they lie close to the Fermi level without other trivial bands existing at the Fermi level. While a number of high-dimension topological materials are predicted, only a few of them have been synthesized and confirmed and the genuine and clean ones are especially scarce. Here we report the realization of the genuine clean multiple high-dimension topological states in NaAlSi. By performing high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission measurements and band structure calculations, we have observed two sets of nodal surfaces and the formation of two homocentric nodal ring states in NaAlSi. The observed nodal rings are distinct in that the inner one is a type-{\uppercase\expandafter{\romannumeral1}} nodal ring while the outer one is a type-{\uppercase\expandafter{\romannumeral1}} nodal ring embedded with four type-{\uppercase\expandafter{\romannumeral3}} nodal points. All the bands involved in the nodal rings lie very close to the Fermi level with no other trivial bands coexisting at the Fermi level. These observations make NaAlSi a desirable topological material to explore for novel quantum states and exotic properties.

Observation of Flat Band, Dirac Nodal Lines and Topological Surface States in Kagome Superconductor CsTi$_3$Bi$_5$

A kagome lattice of 3d transition metals hosts flat bands, Dirac fermions and saddle points. It provides a versatile platform for achieving topological superconductivity, anomalous Hall effect, unconventional density wave order and quantum spin liquid when the strong correlation, spin-orbit coupling or magnetic order are involved in such a lattice. Here, using laser-based angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy in combination with density functional theory calculations, we investigate the electronic structure of the newly discovered kagome superconductor CsTi$_3$Bi$_5$, which is isostructural to the AV$_3$Sb$_5$ (A=K, Rb or Cs) kagome superconductors and possesses a perfect two-dimensional kagome network of Titanium. We directly observed a strikingly flat band derived from the local destructive interferences of Bloch wave functions within the kagome lattices. We also identify the type-II Dirac nodal loops around the Brillouin zone center, the type-III Dirac nodal loops around the zone corners and type-III Dirac nodal lines along the k$_z$ direction. In addition, around the Brillouin zone center, Z2 nontrivial topological surface states are also observed which is formed from the band inversion due to strong spin orbital coupling. The simultaneous existence of such multi-sets of nontrivial band structures in one kagome superconductor not only provides good opportunities to study related physics in the kagome lattice but also makes CsTi$_3$Bi$_5$ an ideal system to realize noval quantum phenomena by manipulating its chemical potential with chemical doping or pressure.

Autoregressive GNN-ODE GRU Model for Network Dynamics

Revealing the continuous dynamics on the networks is essential for understanding, predicting, and even controlling complex systems, but it is hard to learn and model the continuous network dynamics because of complex and unknown governing equations, high dimensions of complex systems, and unsatisfactory observations. Moreover, in real cases, observed time-series data are usually non-uniform and sparse, which also causes serious challenges. In this paper, we propose an Autoregressive GNN-ODE GRU Model (AGOG) to learn and capture the continuous network dynamics and realize predictions of node states at an arbitrary time in a data-driven manner. The GNN module is used to model complicated and nonlinear network dynamics. The hidden state of node states is specified by the ODE system, and the augmented ODE system is utilized to map the GNN into the continuous time domain. The hidden state is updated through GRUCell by observations. As prior knowledge, the true observations at the same timestamp are combined with the hidden states for the next prediction. We use the autoregressive model to make a one-step ahead prediction based on observation history. The prediction is achieved by solving an initial-value problem for ODE. To verify the performance of our model, we visualize the learned dynamics and test them in three tasks: interpolation reconstruction, extrapolation prediction, and regular sequences prediction. The results demonstrate that our model can capture the continuous dynamic process of complex systems accurately and make precise predictions of node states with minimal error. Our model can consistently outperform other baselines or achieve comparable performance.

Unsupervised Galaxy Morphological Visual Representation with Deep Contrastive Learning

Galaxy morphology reflects structural properties which contribute to understand the formation and evolution of galaxies. Deep convolutional networks have proven to be very successful in learning hidden features that allow for unprecedented performance on galaxy morphological classification. Such networks mostly follow the supervised learning paradigm which requires sufficient labelled data for training. However, it is an expensive and complicated process of labeling for million galaxies, particularly for the forthcoming survey projects. In this paper, we present an approach based on contrastive learning with aim for learning galaxy morphological visual representation using only unlabeled data. Considering the properties of low semantic information and contour dominated of galaxy image, the feature extraction layer of the proposed method incorporates vision transformers and convolutional network to provide rich semantic representation via the fusion of the multi-hierarchy features. We train and test our method on 3 classifications of datasets from Galaxy Zoo 2 and SDSS-DR17, and 4 classifications from Galaxy Zoo DECaLS. The testing accuracy achieves 94.7%, 96.5% and 89.9% respectively. The experiment of cross validation demonstrates our model possesses transfer and generalization ability when applied to the new datasets. The code that reveals our proposed method and pretrained models are publicly available and can be easily adapted to new surveys.

RF-CHORD: Towards Deployable RFID Localization System for Logistics Network

RFID localization is considered the key enabler of automating the process of inventory tracking and management for high-performance logistic network. A practical and deployable RFID localization system needs to meet reliability, throughput, and range requirements. This paper presents RF-Chord, the first RFID localization system that simultaneously meets all three requirements. RF-Chord features a one-shot multisine-constructed wideband design that can process RF signal with a 200 MHz bandwidth in real-time to facilitate one-shot localization at scale. In addition, multiple SINR enhancement techniques are designed for range extension. On top of that, a kernel-layer-based near-field localization framework and a multipath-suppression algorithm are proposed to reduce the 99% long-tail errors. Our empirical results show that RF-Chord can localize more than 180 tags 6 m away from a reader within 1 second and with 99% long-tail error of 0.786 m, achieving a 0% miss reading rate and ~0.01% cross-reading rate in the warehouse and fresh food delivery store deployment.
