Long paths and cycles passing through specified vertices under the average degree condition

Let $G$ be a $k$-connected graph with $k\geq 2$. In this paper we first prove that: For two distinct vertices $x$ and $z$ in $G$, it contains a path passing through its any $k-2$ {specified} vertices with length at least the average degree of the vertices other than $x$ and $z$. Further, with this result, we prove that: If $G$ has $n$ vertices and $m$ edges, then it contains a cycle of length at least $2m/(n-1)$ passing through its any $k-1$ specified vertices. Our results generalize a theorem of Fan on the existence of long paths and a classical theorem of Erdös and Gallai on the existence of long cycles under the average degree condition.

Holographic Q-picture of Kerr-Newman-AdS-dS Black Hole

In this article, we show that a four-dimensional Kerr-Newman-AdS-dS black hole could be described by two different holographic two-dimensional conformal field theories. The first description, in view of the angular momentum, has been well discussed in (arXiv:1006.0157). The other alternative dual picture, however, is somehow overlooked. This new description, in view of the charge, provides another holographic correspondence. This picture again is supported not only by the match of the macroscopic entropy with the counting of microscopic degrees of freedom via the Cardy formula and also by the agreement on the real-time correlator in the superradiant scattering.

Boundary Conditions for NHEK through Effective Action Approach

We study the asymptotic symmetry group(ASG) of the near horizon geometry of extreme Kerr black hole through the effective action approach developed in 1007.1031. By requiring a finite boundary effective action, we derive a new set of asymptotic Killing vectors and boundary conditions, which are much more relaxed than the ones proposed in 0907.0303, and still allow a copy of conformal group as its ASG. In the covariant formalism, the asymptotic charges are finite, with the corresponding central charge vanishing. By using the quasi-local charge and introducing a plausible cut-off, we find that the higher order terms of the asymptotic Killing vectors, which could not be determined through the effective action approach, contribute to the central charge as well. We also show that the boundary conditions suggested in 0809.4266 lead to a divergent first order boundary effective action.

Self-Dual Warped AdS$_3$ Black Holes

We study a new class of solutions of three-dimensional topological massive gravity. These solutions can be taken as non-extremal black holes, with their extremal counterparts being discrete quotients of spacelike warped AdS$_3$ along the $U(1)_L$ isometry. We study the thermodynamics of these black holes and show that the first law is satisfied. We also show that for consistent boundary conditions, the asymptotic symmetry generators form only one copy of the Virasoro algebra with central charge $c_L = \frac{4ν\ell}{G(ν^2+3)}$, with which the Cardy formula reproduces the black hole entropy. We compute the real-time correlators of scalar perturbations and find a perfect match with the dual CFT predictions. Our study provides a novel example of warped AdS/CFT correspondence: the self-dual warped AdS$_3$ black hole is dual to a CFT with nonvanishing left central charge. Moreover our investigation suggests that the quantum topological massive gravity asymptotic to the same spacelike warped AdS$_3$ in different consistent ways may be dual to different 2D CFTs.

Real-time correlators in warped AdS/CFT correspondence

We study real-time correlators in the warped AdS/CFT correspondence. We apply the prescription used in the usual AdS/CFT correspondence and obtain the retarded Green's functions for the scalar and vector fields in the spacelike warped and the null warped black hole backgrounds. We find that the retarded Green's functions and the cross sections are well consistent with the predictions from dual CFT. Our results not only support strongly the conjectured warped AdS/CFT correspondence, but also show that the usual relativistic AdS/CFT prescription of obtaining the real-time correlators remain effective in more general backgrounds with anisotropic conformal infinity.

Interaction between two non-threshold bound states

A general non-threshold BPS (F, D$_p$) (or (D$_{p - 2}$, D$_p$)) bound state can be described by a boundary state with a quantized world-volume electric (or magnetic) flux and is characterized by a pair of integers $(m, n)$. With this, we calculate explicitly the interaction amplitude between two such non-threshold bound states with a separation $Y$ when each of the states is characterized by a pair of integers ($m_i, n_i$) with $i = 1, 2$. With this result, one can show that the non-degenerate (i.e., $m_i n_i \neq 0$) interaction is in general attractive for the case of (D$_{p - 2}$, D$_p$) but this is true and for certain only at large separation for the case of (F, D$_p$). In either case, this interaction vanishes only if $m_1/ n_1 = m_2/ n_2$ and $n_1 n_2 > 0$. We also study the analytic structure of the corresponding amplitude and calculate in particular the rate of pair production of open strings in the case of (F, D$_p$).

On the low energy brane/anti-brane dynamics

We study the dynamical behavior of a pair of Dp-brane and anti Dp-brane ($0 \leq p \leq 6$) moving parallel to each other in the region where the brane and anti-brane annihilation will not occur and the low energy description is valid. Given this, we perform a general analysis, in the center of mass frame, of the behavior of the effective potential with respect to the relative brane separation and find that the classical orbits of this system are in general unbound except for $p = 6$ case for which classical bound orbits exist. The non-linearity of the low energy DBI action for D-brane is important for the underlying dynamics. We solve also the explicit orbits for $p = 6$ case.

On Brane-Antibrane Forces

In this note, we will discuss two aspects of brane-antibrane forces. In one aspect, we generalize the force calculation of D0-${\bar {\rm D}}$0 of Banks and Susskind to Dp-${\bar {\rm D}}p$ for $1\le p \leq 8$. In particular, we find that the force is also divergent for p = 1 while for the other cases ($p \ge 2$) the forces are in general finite when $Z \to 0^+$, where $Z = \frac{Y^2}{2π^2α'} - 1$ with Y, the brane-antibrane separation. However, the forces are divergent for all cases when Z < 0, signalling the occurrence of open string tachyon condensation in this regime. The other deals with the puzzling static nature of the supergravity brane-antibrane configurations. We will show that the force on a brane probe due to a brane-antibrane background vanishes when the probe is placed at the location of the coincident brane-antibranes, thereby providing a direct evidence for the existence of general static brane-antibrane configuration in the supergravity approximation.
