Collision of Two Rotating Hayward Black Holes

We investigate the spin interaction and the gravitational radiation thermally allowed in a head-on collision of two rotating Hayward black holes. The Hayward black hole is a regular black hole in a modified Einstein equation, and hence it can be an appropriate model to describe the extent to which the regularity effect in the near-horizon region affects the interaction and the radiation. If one black hole is assumed to be considerably smaller than the other, the potential of the spin interaction can be analytically obtained and is dependent on the alignment of angular momenta of the black holes. For the collision of massive black holes, the gravitational radiation is numerically obtained as the upper bound by using the laws of thermodynamics. The effect of the Hayward black hole tends to increase the radiation energy, but we can limit the effect by comparing the radiation energy with the gravitational waves GW150914 and GW151226.

Cosmic Censorship Conjecture in Kerr-Sen Black Hole

The validity of the cosmic censorship conjecture for the Kerr-Sen black hole, which is a solution to the low-energy effective field theory for four-dimensional heterotic string theory, is investigated using charged particle absorption. When the black hole absorbs the particle, the charge on it changes owing to the conserved quantities of the particle. Changes in the black hole are constrained to the equation for the motion of the particle and are consistent with the laws of thermodynamics. Particle absorption increases the mass of the Kerr-Sen black hole to more than that of the absorbed charges such as angular momentum and electric charge; hence, the black hole cannot be overcharged. In the near-extremal black hole, we observe a violation of the cosmic censorship conjecture for the angular momentum in the first order of expansion and the electric charge in the second order. However, considering an adiabatic process carrying the conserved quantities as those of the black hole, we prove the stability of the black hole horizon. Thus, we resolve the violation. This is consistent with the third law of thermodynamics.

Spin Interaction under the Collision of Two Kerr-(anti-)de Sitter Black Holes

We have investigated spin interaction under the collision of Kerr-(anti-)de Sitter black holes. The potential of a spin interaction is dependent on the relative rotating directions of the black holes, and this potential can be released as gravitational radiation under the collision. The radiation depends on the cosmological constant and corresponds to the potential of the spin interaction at a limit where one of the black holes is assumed to have small mass and angular momentum. Then, we have shown, approximately, the overall behaviors of the upper bounds on the radiation using thermodynamics. From these bounds, the spin interaction can consistently contribute to the radiation. In addition, the radiation depends on the stability of the black hole synthesized from the collision.

Note on the speed of GW150914 in gravity's rainbow

Without breaking Lorentz invariance, we investigate the speed of graviton in event GW150914 by using the modified dispersion relation from gravity's rainbow. The proper range of the parameter in the modified dispersion relation is determined by taking into account the gap between the speed of the graviton and that obtained from event GW150914.

The Upper Bound of Radiation Energy in the Myers-Perry Black Hole Collision

We have investigated the upper bound of the radiation energy in the head-on collision of two Myers-Perry black holes. Initially, the two black holes are far away from each other, and they become one black hole after the collision. We have obtained the upper bound of the radiation energy thermodynamically allowed in the process. The upper bound of the radiation energy is obtained in general dimensions. The radiation bound depends on the alignments of rotating axes for a given initial condition due to spin-spin interaction. We have found that the collision may not be occurred for a initially ultra-spinning black hole.

Cosmic Censorship of Rotating Anti-de Sitter Black Hole

We test the validity of cosmic censorship in the rotating anti-de Sitter black hole. For this purpose, we investigate whether the extremal black hole can be overspun by the particle absorption. The particle absorption will change the mass and angular momentum of the black hole, which is analyzed using the Hamilton-Jacobi equations consistent with the laws of thermodynamics. We have found that the mass of the extremal black hole increases more than the angular momentum. Therefore, the outer horizon of the black hole still exists, and cosmic censorship is valid.

Thermodynamics of Three-dimensional Black Holes via Charged Particle Absorption

We have shown that changes occur in a (2+1)-dimensional charged black hole by adding a charged probe. The particle increases the entropy of the black hole and guarantees the second law of thermodynamics. The first law of thermodynamics is derived from the change in the black hole mass. Using the particle absorption, we test the extremal black hole and find out that the mass of the extremal black hole increases more than the electric charge. Therefore, the outer horizon of the black hole still exists. However, the extremal condition becomes non-extremal.

Instability of Charged Anti-de Sitter Black Holes

We study the instability of charged anti-de Sitter black holes in four or higher-dimension under fragmentation. The instability of fragmentation breaks the black hole into two black holes. We have found that the region near extremal or massive black holes become unstable under fragmentation. These regions depend not only on the mass and charge of initial black hole but also those of the fragmented one. The instability in higher-dimension is qualitatively similar to that of four-dimension. The detailed instabilities are numerically investigated.

Instability of Black Holes with a Gauss-Bonnet Term

We investigate the fragmentation instability of hairy black holes in the theory with a Gauss$-$Bonnet(GB) term in asymptotically flat spacetime. Our approach is through the non-perturbative fragmentation instability. By this approach, we investigate whether the initial black hole can be broken into two black holes by comparing the entropy of the initial black hole with the sum of those of two fragmented black holes. The relation between the black hole instability and the GB coupling with dilaton hair are presented. We describe the phase diagrams with respect to the mass of the black hole solutions and coupling constants. We find that a perturbatively stable black hole can be unstable under fragmentation.

Instability of Rotating Anti-de Sitter Black Holes

We study the instability of higher-dimensional rotating anti-de Sitter black holes through fragmentation. Fragmentation occurs when black holes rotate too fast to sustain their horizon, and then the black holes are broken into small pieces. Using this process, we test the stability of AdS black holes and discover the dynamical upper bounds of the angular momentum and the cosmological constant. We show that AdS black holes can exist stably within limited parameter ranges in the general dimensions. The parameter ranges are obtained numerically in terms of angular momentum and cosmological constant.

Correlation functions of the ABJM model

In the ABJM model, we study the three-point function of two heavy operators and an (ir)relevant one. Following the AdS/CFT correspondence, the structure constant in the large 't Hooft coupling limit can be factorized into two parts. One is the structure constant with a marginal operator, which is fully determined by the physical quantities of heavy operator and gives rise to the consistent result with the RG analysis. The other can be expressed as the universal form depending only on the conformal dimension of an (ir)relevant operator. We also investigate the new size effect of a circular string dual to a certain closed spin chain.

Local thermodynamics of KS black hole

We study the thermodynamics of the KS black hole which is an asymptotically flat solution of the HL gravity. In particular, we introduce a cavity to describe the thermodynamics at a finite isothermal surface on general ground and to get a well-defined thermodynamics. We show that there exists a locally stable small black hole which tunnels to the hot flat space below the critical temperature and to the large black hole above the critical temperature. Moreover, it turns out that the remnant decays into the vacuum through a quantum tunneling.

Phases of a holographic QCD with gluon condensation at finite Temperature and Density

We study the phase diagram of a holographic QCD using the probe D7 brane in black D3 geometry with finite D-instanton charge. Due to quasi-confining nature of the geometry, baryon vertex can exist outside the horizon so that we can find D7 brane embeddings with finite baryon density and finite chiral condensation as well as an embedding where only quarks are possible but chiral condensation can be zero or non-zero. We study the phase transition and phase diagram between these phases. We also calculated constituent quark mass and binding energy of baryons as fucntion of the density.

Holographic Instanton Liquid and chiral transition

In the presence of uniform D-instanton charges, quarks can be confined although gluons are not, because baryon vertices are allowed due to the net repulsive force on the on the probe D-branes. Since there is no scale in the geometry itself apart from the horizon size, there is no Hawking-Page transition. As a consequence, the D7 brane embedding can encode the effect of the the finite temperature as well as finite baryon density even for low temperature. The probe D-brane embedding, however, undergoes a chiral phase transition according to the temperature and density parameter. We studied such phase transitions and calculated the constituent quark mass, chiral condensation and the binding energy of baryons as function of the density. The baryon vertex melting is identified as the quark deconfinement. We draw phase diagram according to these transitions.

A Particle Probing Thermodynamics in Three-Dimensional Black Hole

We have shown the thermodynamic changes in a 2+1-dimensional rotating black hole when it absorbs a particle. The microscopic changes which the black hole undergoes are interpreted using the AdS/CFT correspondence. Using particle absorption phenomena, we formulate an irreducible mass and black hole entropy directly related to the particle momenta. We describe the black hole evolution that preserves the 2nd law of thermodynamics. The numbers of microstates which evaluate the entropy are analyzed at each of the black hole evolution stages.

Creation of a black hole pair with a domain wall

We study the creation of a black hole (BH) pair separated by a domain wall, in the presence of a cosmological constant. We construct the solution representing a BH pair with a domain wall and compute the Euclidean action to evaluate the probability of the pair creation in the background with a preexisting domain wall. The BHs can be either neutral or magnetically charged ones. We compare the results of the charged case with those of the neutral case with the same cosmological constant. We find that the production rate of a charged BH pair is always suppressed in comparison with that of the neutral one in both four and five dimensions, irrespective of the sign of the cosmological constant. The Euclidean action is equal to the minus of the entropy. Since the horizon area of a BH is decreased as the magnitude of its charge is increased in general, the decreasing creation rate can be understood in terms of the increasing charge. We obtain the explicit confirmation on the relation between the pair creation rate of the charged BHs and the area of horizons in both the four- and five-dimensional cases in the presence of a cosmological constant. The singularity of the domain wall universe with charged BHs, as distinct from that with neutral BHs, can be avoided.

Rotating Black Hole Thermodynamics with a Particle Probe

The thermodynamics of Myers-Perry black holes in general dimensions are studied using a particle probe. When undergoing particle absorption, the changes of the entropy and irreducible mass are shown to be dependent on the particle radial momentum. The black hole thermodynamic behaviors are dependent on dimensionality for specific rotations. For a 4-dimensional Kerr black hole, its black hole properties are maintained for any particle absorption. 5-dimensional black holes can avoid a naked ring singularity by absorbing a particle in specific momenta ranges. Black holes over 6 dimensions become ultra-spinning black holes through a specific form of particle absorption. The microscopical changes are interpreted in limited cases of Myers-Perry black holes using Kerr/CFT correspondence. We systematically describe the black hole properties changed by particle absorption in all dimensions.

Geodesic motions in extraordinary string geometry

The geodesic properties of the extraordinary vacuum string solution in (4+1) dimensions are analyzed by using Hamilton-Jacobi method. The geodesic motions show distinct properties from those of the static one. Especially, any freely falling particle can not arrive at the horizon or singularity. There exist stable null circular orbits and bouncing timelike and null geodesics. To get into the horizon {or singularity}, a particle need to follow a non-geodesic trajectory. We also analyze the orbit precession to show that the precession angle has distinct features for each geometry such as naked singularity, black string, and wormhole.
