Restriction theorems: from orbits and Chevalley to periods and Galois

Using a new approach based on Galois theory, we study subvarieties of complex representations of reductive groups which satisfy restriction properties on their invariant rings and function fields, along the lines of the Chevalley restriction theorem. For a certain well-behaved class of representations, we explicitly parametrize candidates for these restriction properties and explain a technique to understand their deformations in complex families. We also give algebraic and geometric characterizations of the Chevalley restriction property which clarify how this perspective connects back to previous orbit-theoretic approaches. Finally, we utilize these restriction properties to prove explicit formulas for period integrals of some Calabi-Yau families. The key insight is that the restriction property on function fields can be leveraged to locally interpolate between the algebraic and analytic settings. Using this technique, we lift hypergeometric period formulas from subfamilies to obtain novel explicit formulas for periods of Calabi-Yau double covers of projective spaces and elliptic curves in $\mathbb{P}^2$, expressed in terms of invariant functions on their parameter spaces.

On a conjecture of Huang--Lian--Yau--Yu

We verify a formula on the solution rank of the tautological system arising from ample complete intersections in a projective homogeneous space of a semisimple group conjectured by Huang--Lian--Yau--Yu arXiv:1801.01194. As an application, we prove the existence of the rank one point for such a system, where mirror symmetry is expected.

$\ell$-adic Tautological Systems

Tautological systems was introduced in Lian-Yau as the system of differential equations satisfied by period integrals of hyperplane sections of some complex projective homogenous varieties. We introduce the $\ell$-adic tautological systems for the case where the ground field is of characteristic $p$.

K3 surfaces from configurations of six lines in $\mathbb{P}^{2}$ and mirror symmetry II --- $λ_{K3}$-functions ---

We continue our study on the hypergeometric system $E(3,6)$ which describes period integrals of the double cover family of K3 surfaces. Near certain special boundary points in the moduli space of the K3 surfaces, we construct the local solutions and determine the so-called mirror maps expressing them in terms of genus two theta functions. These mirror maps are the K3 analogues of the elliptic $λ$-function. We find that there are two non-isomorphic definitions of the lambda functions corresponding to a flip in the moduli space. We also discuss mirror symmetry for the double cover K3 surfaces and their higher dimensional generalizations. A follow up paper will describe more details of the latter.

Jacobian rings for homogenous vector bundles and applications

In this note, we examine the Jacobian ring description of the Hodge structure of zero loci of vector bundle sections on a class of ambient varieties. We consider a set of cohomological vanishing conditions that imply such a description, and we verify these conditions for some new cases. We also observe that the method can be directly extended to log homogeneous varieties. We apply the Jacobian ring to study the null varieties of period integrals and their derivatives, generalizing a result in [9] for projective spaces. As an additional application, we prove the Hodge conjecture for very generic hypersurfaces in certain generalized flag varieties.

Hasse-Witt matrices, unit roots and period integrals

Motivated by the work of Candelas, de la Ossa and Rodriguez-Villegas [6], we study the relations between Hasse-Witt matrices and period integrals of Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces in both toric varieties and partial flag varieties. We prove a conjecture by Vlasenko [23] on higher Hasse-Witt matrices for toric hypersurfaces following Katz's method of local expansion [14, 15]. The higher Hasse-Witt matrices also have close relation with period integrals. The proof gives a way to pass from Katz's congruence relations in terms of expansion coefficients [15] to Dwork's congruence relations [8] about periods.

Period integrals of local complete intersections and tautological systems

Tautological systems developed in [6],[7] are Picard-Fuchs type systems to study period integrals of complete intersections in Fano varieties. We generalize tautological systems to local complete intersections, which are zero loci of global sections of vector bundles over Fano varieties. In particular, we obtain similar criterion as [6, 7] about holonomicity and regularity of the system. We also prove solution rank formulas and geometric realizations of solutions following the work of hypersurfaces [5, 4].
