Graded classification of Leavitt path algebras in terms of strong shift equivalence

Given two finite essential adjacency matrices $A$ and $B$, Hazrat's graded classification conjectures posit that an order preserving $\mathbb{Z}[x,x^{-1}]$-module isomorphism of $K_0$ groups implies graded Morita equivalence of the Leavitt path algebras of $A$ and $B$, while the pointed version predicts a graded isomorphism of the Leavitt path algebras when the $K_0$ group isomorphism additionally preserves the class of the regular module. For any field $k$, we show that the Leavitt path algebras over $k$ of $A$ and $B$ are graded Morita equivalent if and only if $A$ and $B$ are strong shift equivalent. By appealing to counterexamples of Kim and Roush from symbolic dynamics, this shows that Hazrat's graded classification conjectures are false.

Embedding $K$-algebras into Leavitt algebra $L_K(1, 2)$

Since the commutative monoid $T = (\{0, 1\}, \vee)$ is a weak terminal object in the category of conical monoids with order units, there is a unital homomorphism from every Bergman $K$-algebra corresponding to a conical finitely generated commutative monoid into the Leavitt algebra $L_K(1,2)$, where $K$ is a field. This fact will be used to give a short proof that Leavitt path algebras associated with finite graphs with condition $(L)$ embed into $L_K(1,2)$, as well as provide criteria for an embedding of $M_s(L_{K}(1, m))$ in $M_s(L_{K}(1, n))$. As our second main result, we show that the Heisenberg equation $xy-yx=1$ cannot be realized in any Steinberg algebra, implying that the first Weyl algebra cannot be embedded into $L_K(1,2)$, giving an affirmative answer to a question of Brownlowe and Sorensen on the embeddability of $K$-algebras with a countable basis inside $L_K(1,2)$. Whereas, $L_K(E)$ cannot be graded-embedded into $L_K(1,2)$ in general, in the final section we show that $L_K(E)$ does admit a graded embedding into $L_K(1,2)\otimes_K L_K(1,2)$.

An obstruction to isomorphism of tensor algebras of multivariable dynamical systems

In their paper on multivariable dynamics, Davidson and Katsoulis conjectured that two multivariable dynamical systems have isomorphic tensor algebras if and only if they are piecewise conjugate. We disprove the conjecture by constructing two piecewise conjugate multivariable dynamical systems with four maps on a two-dimensional space, whose tensor algebras are not isomorphic.

Shift equivalence relations through the lens of C*-correspondences

We continue the study of shift equivalence relations from the perspective of C*-bimodule theory. We study emerging shift equivalence relations following work of the second-named author with Carlsen and Eilers, both in terms of adjacency matrices and in terms of their C*-correspondences, and orient them when possible. In particular, we show that if two regular C*-correspondences are strong shift equivalent, then the intermediary C*-correspondences realizing the equivalence may be chosen to be regular. This result provides the final missing piece in answering a question of Muhly, Pask and Tomforde, and is used to confirm a conjecture of Kakariadis and Katsoulis on shift equivalence of C*-correspondences.

Equivariant homotopy classification of graph C*-algebras

We show that shift equivalence of essential adjacency matrices coincides with gauge-equivariant homotopy equivalence of their stabilized graph C*-algebras. This provide the first equivalent formulation of shift equivalence of essential matrices in terms of gauge actions on graph C*-algebras. Our proof uses bicategory theory for C*-bimodules developed by Meyer and Sehnem, allowing us to avoid the use of K-theory classification of C*-algebras.

Maximality of correspondence representations

In this paper, we fully characterize maximal representations of a C*-correspondence. This strengthens several earlier results. We demonstrate the criterion with diverse examples. We also describe the noncommutative Choquet boundary and provide additional counterexamples to Arveson's hyperrigidity conjecture following the counterexample recently found by the author and Adam Dor-On.

Arveson's hyperrigidity conjecture is false

Arveson's hyperrigidity conjecture predicts that if the non-commutative Choquet boundary of a separable operator system $\mathcal{S}$ is the entire spectrum of its generated C*-algebra $\mathcal{B}$ then $\mathcal{S}$ is hyperrigid in $\mathcal{B}$. We provide a counterexample to the conjecture with a C*-algebra $\mathcal{B}$ of type I generated by a single operator.

Ideal structure of Nica-Toeplitz algebras

We study the gauge-invariant ideal structure of the Nica-Toeplitz algebra $\mathcal{NT}(X)$ of a product system $(A, X)$ over $\mathbb{N}^n$. We obtain a clear description of $X$-invariant ideals in $A$, that is, restrictions of gauge-invariant ideals in $\mathcal{NT}(X)$ to $A$. The main result is a classification of gauge-invariant ideals in $\mathcal{NT}(X)$ for a proper product system in terms of families of ideals in $A$. We also apply our results to higher-rank graphs.

Taylor spectrum for modules over Lie algebras

In this paper we generalize the notion of the Taylor spectrum to modules over an arbitrary Lie algebra and study it for finite-dimensional modules. We show that the spectrum can be described as the set of simple submodules in case of nilpotent and semisimple Lie algebras. We also show that this result does not hold for solvable Lie algebras and obtain a precise description of the spectrum in case of Borel subalgebras of semisimple Lie algebras.

Classification of noncommutative monoid structures on normal affine surfaces

In 2021, Dzhunusov and Zaitseva classified two-dimensional normal affine commutative algebraic monoids. In this work, we extend this classification to noncommutative monoid structures on normal affine surfaces. We prove that two-dimensional algebraic monoids are toric. We also show how to find all monoid structures on a normal toric surface. Every such structure is induced by a comultiplication formula involving Demazure roots. We also give descriptions of opposite monoids, quotient monoids, and boundary divisors.
