Macroscopic theory of dark sector

A simple Lagrangian with squared covariant divergence of a vector field as a kinetic term turned out an adequate tool for macroscopic description of the dark sector. The zero-mass field acts as the dark energy. Its energy-momentum tensor is a simple additive to the cosmological constant. Massive fields ϕ_{I} with ϕ^{K}ϕ_{K}<0 and ϕ^{K}ϕ_{K}>0 describe two different forms of dark matter. The space-like (ϕ^{K}ϕ_{K}<0) massive vector field is attractive. It is responsible for the observed plateau in galaxy rotation curves. The time-like (ϕ^{K}ϕ_{K}>0) massive field displays repulsive elasticity. In balance with dark energy and ordinary matter it provides a four parametric diversity of regular solutions of the Einstein equations describing different possible cosmological and oscillating non-singular scenarios of evolution of the universe. In particular, the singular big bang turns into a regular inflation-like transition from contraction to expansion with the accelerate expansion at late times. The fine-tuned Friedman-Robertson-Walker singular solution is a particular limiting case at the boundary of existence of regular oscillating solutions in the absence of vector fields. The simplicity of the general covariant expression for the energy-momentum tensor allows to display the main properties of the dark sector analytically and avoid unnecessary model assumptions.

Galaxy rotation curves. The theory

The non-gauge vector field with as simple as possible Lagrangian (\ref{Lagrangian}) turned out an adequate tool for macroscopic description of the main properties of dark matter. The dependence of the velocity of a star on the radius of the orbit $V\left(r\right) $ -- galaxy rotation curve -- is derived analytically from the first principles\ completely within the Einstein's general relativity. The Milgrom's empirical modification of Newtonian dynamics in nonrelativistic limit (MOND) gets justified and specified in detail. In particular, the transition to a plateau is accompanied by damping oscillations. In the scale of a galaxy, and in the scale of the whole universe, the dark matter is described by a vector field with the same energy-momentum tensor. It is the evidence of the common physical nature. Now, when we have the general expression (\ref{Tik b=c=0}) for the energy-momentum tensor of dark matter, it is possible to analyze its influence on the structure and evolution of super heavy stars and black holes.

To the theory of the Universe evolution

Self-consistent account of the most simple non-gauge vector fields leads to a broad spectrum of regular scenarios of temporal evolution of the Universe completely within the frames of the Einstein's General relativity. The longitudinal non-gauge vector field is "the missing link in the chain", displaying the repulsive elasticity and allowing the macroscopic description of the main features of the Universe evolution. The singular Big Bang turns into a regular inflation-like state of maximum compression with the further accelerated expansion at late times. The parametric freedom of the theory allows to forget the troubles of fine tuning. In the most interesting cases the analytical solutions of the Einstein's equations are found.

Vector fields in multidimensional cosmology

Vector fields in the expanding Universe are considered within the multidimensional theory of General Relativity. Vector fields in general relativity form a three-parametric variety. Our consideration includes the fields with a nonzero covariant divergence. Depending on the relations between the particular parameters and the symmetry of a problem, the vector fields can be longitudinal and/or transverse, ultrarelativistic (i.e. massless) or nonrelativistic (massive), and so on. The longitudinal and transverse vector fields are considered separately in detail in the background of the de Sitter cosmological metric. In most cases the field equations reduce to Bessel equations, and their temporal evolution is analyzed analytically. The energy-momentum tensor of the most simple zero-mass longitudinal vector fields enters the Einstein equations as an additive to the cosmological constant. In this case the de Sitter metric is the exact solution of the Einstein equations. Hence, the most simple zero-mass longitudinal vector field pretends to be an adequate tool for macroscopic description of dark energy as a source of the expansion of the Universe at a constant rate. The zero-mass vector field does not vanish in the process of expansion. On the contrary, massive fields vanish with time. Though their amplitude is falling down, the massive fields make the expansion accelerated. The macroscopic analysis of vector fields in cosmology gives up the hope that the major puzzle -- attraction between individual objects and expansion of the Universe as a whole -- can be solved within the Einstein's theory of general relativity.

Vector order parameter in general relativity. Covariant equations

Phase transitions with spontaneous symmetry breaking and vector order parameter are considered in multidimensional theory of general relativity. Covariant equations, describing the gravitational properties of topological defects, are derived. The topological defects are classified in accordance with the symmetry of the covariant derivative of the vector order parameter. The abilities of the derived equations are demonstrated in application to the brane world concept. New solutions of the Einstein equations with a transverse vector order parameter are presented. In the vicinity of phase transition the solutions are found analytically.

Field equations and vector order parameter in braneworld applications

In the vicinity of phase transition the solutions are found analytically. Comparison with the commonly used scalar multiplet approach demonstrates the advantages of the vector order parameter.

Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking in General Relativity. Vector Order Parameter

Gravitational properties of a hedge-hog type topological defect in two extra dimensions are considered in General Relativity employing a vector as the order parameter. All previous considerations were done using the order parameter in the form of a multiplet in a target space of scalar fields. The difference of these two approaches is analyzed and demonstrated in detail. Regular solutions of the Einstein equations are studied analytically and numerically. It is shown that the existence of a negative cosmological constant is sufficient for the spontaneous symmetry breaking of the initially plain bulk. Regular configurations have a growing gravitational potential and are able to trap the matter on the brane. If the energy of spontaneous symmetry breaking is high, the gravitational potential has several points of minimum. Identical in the uniform bulk spin-less particles, being trapped within separate minima, acquire different masses and appear to the observer on brane as different particles with integer spins.

Brane World as a Result of Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking

The theories of brane world and multidimensional gravity are widely discussed in the literature in connection with problems of evolution of early Universe, including dark matter and energy. A natural physical concept is that a distinguished surface in the space-time manifold is a topological defect appeared as a result of a phase transition with spontaneous symmetry breaking. The macroscopic theory of phase transitions allows considering the brane world concept self-consistently, even without the knowledge of the nature of physical vacuum. Gravitational properties of topological defects (cosmic strings, monopoles,...) in extra dimensions are studied in General Relativity considering the order parameter as a vector and a multiplet in a plane target space of scalar fields. The common results and differences of these two approaches are analyzed and demonstrated in detail. Among the variety of regular solutions, there are those having brane features, including solutions with multiple branes, as well as the ones of potential interest from the standpoint of the dark matter and hierarchy problems. Regular configurations have a growing gravitational potential and are able to trap the matter on the brane. If the energy of spontaneous symmetry breaking is high, the attracting potential can have several points of minimum. Identical in the uniform bulk spin-less particles, being trapped within the separate points of minimum, acquire different masses and appear to an observer on brane as different particles with integer spins.

Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking in General Relativity. Brane World Concept

Gravitational properties of a hedge-hog type topological defect in two extra dimensions are considered in General Relativity employing a vector as the order parameter. The developed macroscopic theory of phase transitions with spontaneous symmetry breaking is applied to the analysis of possible "thick" brane structures. The previous considerations were done using the order parameter in the form of a multiplet in a target space of scalar fields. The difference of these two approaches is analyzed and demonstrated in detail. There are two different symmetries of regular solutions of Einstein equations for a hedgehog type vector order parameter. Both solutions are analyzed in parallel analytically and numerically. Regular configurations in cases of vector order parameter have one more free parameter in comparison with the scalar multiplet solutions. It is shown that the existence of a negative cosmological constant is sufficient for the spontaneous symmetry breaking of the initially plain bulk. Regular configurations have a growing gravitational potential and are able to trap the matter to the brane. Among others there are solutions with the gravitational potential having several points of minimum. Identical in the uniform bulk spin-less particles, being trapped within separate points of minimum, acquire different masses and appear to an observer within the brane as different particles with integer spins.

A general thick brane supported by a scalar field

A thick Z_2-symmetric domain wall supported by a scalar field with an arbitrary potential V(ϕ) in 5D general relativity is considered as a candidate brane world. We show that, under the global regularity requirement, such a configuration (i) has always an AdS asymptotic far from the brane, (ii) is only possible if V(ϕ) has an alternating sign and (iii) V(ϕ) satisfies a certain fine-tuning type equality. The thin brane limit is well defined and conforms to the Randall-Sundrum (RS2) brane world model if the asymptotic value of V(ϕ) (related to Λ, the effective cosmological constant) is kept thickness-independent. Universality of such a transition is demonstrated using as an example exact solutions for stepwise potentials of different shapes. Also, due to scale invariance of the Einstein-scalar equations, any given regular solution creates a one-parameter family of solutions with different potentials. In such families, a thin brane limit does not exist while the ratio Λ/(brane tension)^2 is thickness-independent and is in general different from its value in the RS2 model.

Multidimensional Global Monopole and Nonsingular Cosmology

We consider a spherically symmetric global monopole in general relativity in $(D=d+2)$-dimensional spacetime. The monopole is shown to be asymptotically flat up to a solid angle defect in case $γ< d-1$, where $γ$ is a parameter characterizing the gravitational field strength. In the range $d-1< γ< 2d(d+1)/(d+2)$ the monopole space-time contains a cosmological horizon. Outside the horizon the metric corresponds to a cosmological model of Kantowski-Sachs type, where spatial sections have the topology ${\R\times §}^d$. In the important case when the horizon is far from the monopole core, the temporal evolution of the Kantowski-Sachs metric is described analytically. The Kantowski-Sachs space-time contains a subspace with a $(d+1)$-dimensional Friedmann-Robertson-Walker metric, and its possible cosmological application is discussed. Some numerical estimations in case $d=3$ are made showing that this class of nonsingular cosmologies can be viable. Other results, generalizing those known in the 4-dimensional space-time, are derived, in particular, the existence of a large class of singular solutions with multiple zeros of the Higgs field magnitude.

Global Monopole in General Relativity

We consider the gravitational properties of a global monopole on the basis of the simplest Higgs scalar triplet model in general relativity. We begin with establishing some common features of hedgehog-type solutions with a regular center, independent of the choice of the symmetry-breaking potential. There are six types of qualitative behavior of the solutions; we show, in particular, that the metric can contain at most one simple horizon. For the standard Mexican hat potential, the previously known properties of the solutions are confirmed and some new results are obtained. Thus, we show analytically that solutions with monotonically growing Higgs field and finite energy in the static region exist only in the interval $1<γ<3$, $γ$ being the squared energy of spontaneous symmetry breaking in Planck units. The cosmological properties of these globally regular solutions apparently favor the idea that the standard Big Bang might be replaced with a nonsingular static core and a horizon appearing as a result of some symmetry-breaking phase transition on the Planck energy scale. In addition to the monotonic solutions, we present and analyze a sequence of families of new solutions with oscillating Higgs field. These families are parametrized by $n$, the number of knots of the Higgs field, and exist for $γ< γ_n = 6/[(2n+1) (n+2)]$; all such solutions possess a horizon and a singularity beyond it.
