On an integrable 2+1-dimensional extended Dym equation: Lax pair, $\bar{\partial}$-dressing scheme and modulation

In 1+1-dimensions, an extension of the canonical solitonic Dym equation has previously been derived both in a geometric torsion evolution context and in the analysis of peakon solitonic phenomena in hydrodynamics. Here, a novel 2+1-dimensional S-integrable extended Dym-type equation is introduced. As Lax pair is constructed and an associated $\bar{\partial}$-dressing scheme detailed. Integrable modulated versions of the 2+1-dimensional extended Dym equation are generated via application of a class of involutory transformations with genesis in classical Ermakov theory.

Entropy driven transformations of statistical hypersurfaces

Deformations of geometric characteristics of statistical hypersurfaces governed by the law of growth of entropy are studied. Both general and special cases of deformations are considered. The basic structure of the statistical hypersurface is explored through a differential relation for the variables, and connections with the replicator dynamics for Gibbs' weights are highlighted. Ideal and super-ideal cases are analysed, also considering their integral characteristics.

Geometry of the basic statistical physics mapping

Geometry of hypersurfaces defined by the relation which generalizes classical formula for free energy in terms of microstates is studied. Induced metric, Riemann curvature tensor, Gauss-Kronecker curvature and associated entropy are calculated. Special class of ideal statistical hypersurfaces is analyzed in details. Non-ideal hypersurfaces and their singularities similar to those of the phase transitions are considered. Tropical limit of statistical hypersurfaces and double scaling tropical limit are discussed too.

Spectral curves in gauge/string dualities: integrability, singular sectors and regularization

We study the moduli space of the spectral curves $y^2=W'(z)^2+f(z)$ which characterize the vacua of $\mathcal{N}=1$ U(n) supersymmetric gauge theories with an adjoint Higgs field and a polynomial tree level potential $W(z)$. It is shown that there is a direct way to associate a spectral density and a prepotential functional to these spectral curves. The integrable structure of the Whitham equations is used to determine the spectral curves from their moduli. An alternative characterization of the spectral curves in terms of critical points of a family of polynomial solutions $\mathbb{W}$ to Euler-Poisson-Darboux equations is provided. The equations for these critical points are a generalization of the planar limit equations for one-cut random matrix models. Moreover, singular spectral curves with higher order branch points turn out to be described by degenerate critical points of $\mathbb{W}$. As a consequence we propose a multiple scaling limit method of regularization and show that, in the simplest cases, it leads to the Painlevè-I equation and its multi-component generalizations.

Unfolding of singularities and differential equations

Interrelation between Thom's catastrophes and differential equations revisited. It is shown that versal deformations of critical points for singularities of A,D,E type are described by the systems of Hamilton-Jacobi type equations. For particular nonversal unfoldings the corresponding equations are equivalent to the integrable two-component hydrodynamic type systems like classical shallow water equation and dispersionless Toda system and others. Pecularity of such integrable systems is that the generating functions for corresponding hierarchies, which obey Euler-Poisson-Darboux equation, contain information about normal forms of higher order and higher corank singularities.

High frequency integrable regimes in nonlocal nonlinear optics

We consider an integrable model which describes light beams propagating in nonlocal nonlinear media of Cole-Cole type. The model is derived as high frequency limit of both Maxwell equations and the nonlocal nonlinear Schroedinger equation. We demonstrate that for a general form of nonlinearity there exist selfguided light beams. In high frequency limit nonlocal perturbations can be seen as a class of phase deformation along one direction. We study in detail nonlocal perturbations described by the dispersionless Veselov-Novikov (dVN) hierarchy. The dVN hierarchy is analyzed by the reduction method based on symmetry constraints and by the quasiclassical Dbar-dressing method. Quasiclassical Dbar-dressing method reveals a connection between nonlocal nonlinear geometric optics and the theory of quasiconformal mappings of the plane.

Paraxial light in a Cole-Cole nonlocal medium: integrable regimes and singularities

Nonlocal nonlinear Schroedinger-type equation is derived as a model to describe paraxial light propagation in nonlinear media with different `degrees' of nonlocality. High frequency limit of this equation is studied under specific assumptions of Cole-Cole dispersion law and a slow dependence along propagating direction. Phase equations are integrable and they correspond to dispersionless limit of Veselov-Novikov hierarchy. Analysis of compatibility among intensity law (dependence of intensity on the refractive index) and high frequency limit of Poynting vector conservation law reveals the existence of singular wavefronts. It is shown that beams features depend critically on the orientation properties of quasiconformal mappings of the plane. Another class of wavefronts, whatever is intensity law, is provided by harmonic minimal surfaces. Illustrative example is given by helicoid surface. Compatibility with first and third degree nonlocal perturbations and explicit solutions are also discussed.

Light propagation in a Cole-Cole nonlinear medium via Burgers-Hopf equation

Recently, a new model of propagation of the light through the so-called weakly three-dimensional Cole-Cole nonlinear medium with short-range nonlocality has been proposed. In particular, it has been shown that in the geometrical optics limit, the model is integrable and it is governed by the dispersionless Veselov-Novikov (dVN) equation. Burgers-Hopf equation can be obtained as 1+1-dimensional reduction of dVN equation. We discuss its properties in the specific context of nonlinear geometrical optics. An illustrative explicit example is considered.

Quasi-classical DBAR-dressing approach to the weakly dispersive KP hierarchy

Recently proposed quasi-classical DBAR-dressing method provides a systematic approach to study the weakly dispersive limit of integrable systems. We apply the quasi-classical DBAR-dressing method to describe dispersive corrections of any order. We show how calculate the DBAR problems at any order for a rather general class of integrable systems, presenting explicit results for the KP hierarchy case. We demonstrate the stability of the method at each order. We construct an infinite set of commuting flows at first order which allow a description analogous to the zero order (purely dispersionless) case, highlighting a Whitham type structure. Obstacles for the construction of the higher order dispersive corrections are also discussed.

The KP Hierarchy in Miwa Coordinates

A systematic reformulation of the KP hierarchy by using continuous Miwa variables is presented. Basic quantities and relations are defined and determinantal expressions for Fay's identities are obtained. It is shown that in terms of these variables the KP hierarchy gives rise to a Darboux system describing an infinite-dimensional conjugate net.

Generalized Weierstrass-Enneper inducing, conformal immersions, and gravity

Basic quantities related to 2-D gravity, such as Polyakov extrinsic action, Nambu-Goto action, geometrical action, and Euler characteristic are studied using generalized Weierstrass-Enneper (GWE) inducing of surfaces. Connection of the GWE inducing with conformal immersion is made and varius aspects of the theory are shown to be invariant under the modified Veselov-Novikov hierarchy of flows. The geometry of certain surfaces is shown to be connected with the dynamics of infinite and finite dimensional integrable systems. Connections to Liouville-Beltrami gravity are indicated.
