Spinor vertexes and bubbles in the "old" conformal bootstrap on AdS and FMH problem: Yukawa model

Attempts to resolve the longstanding Fermion mass hierarchy (FMH) problem in frames of the AdS/CFT correspondence demand the knowledge of bulk fermion masses. The approach of the "old" conformal bootstrap in AdS context permitted to calculate bulk masses of scalar fields [1], [2]. In the present paper this approach is extended to physically more interesting spin 1/2 bulk fields. Calculation of spinor-scalar vertices is performed in physical AdS space, and unexpectedly simple expressions for spinor-scalar bubbles (2-point one-loop self-energy Witten diagrams) are obtained. The "double-trace from UV to IR flow" subtraction of UV divergences used earlier in calculations of the UV-finite bulk tadpoles is applied to bubbles. This permitted to write down in frame of the "old" conformal bootstrap approach the nontrivial spectral equations for the bulk fermion masses; SU(N) Yukawa model of spinor fields interacting with conformal invariant scalar field in case of four boundary dimensions is considered as a specific example.

UV-finite "old" conformal bootstrap on AdS: scalar case

The double-trace from UV to IR flow subtraction of infinities used earlier for the UV-convergent calculations of the Witten tadpole diagrams being applied to the bubble self-energy diagrams gives for them the amazingly simple expressions in case of the four-dimensional boundary space. For every $N = 1... 4$ in the $O(N)$ symmetric scalar fields model with the conformal Hubbard-Stratonovich field there are three roots of the "old" conformal bootstrap spectral equations that obey unitarity bound demand.

"Old" Conformal Bootstrap on AdS: $O(N)$ symmetric scalar model

Bootstrap equations for conformal correlators that mimic the early theory of conformal bootstrap are written down in frames of the AdS/CFT approach. The simplified version of these equations, that may be justified if Schwinger-Keldysh formalism is used in AdS/CFT instead of conventional Feynman-Witten diagrams technique, permits to calculate values of conformal dimensions in the $O(N)$ symmetric model with conformal or composite Hubbard-Stratonovich field.

Driven-Dissipative Dynamics of Atomic Ensembles in a Resonant Cavity I: Nonequilibrium Phase Diagram and Periodically Modulated Superradiance

We study the dynamics of two ensembles of atoms (or equivalently, atomic clocks) coupled to a bad cavity and pumped incoherently by a Raman laser. Our main result is the nonequilibrium phase diagram for this experimental setup in terms of two parameters - detuning between the clocks and the repump rate. There are three main phases - trivial steady state (Phase I), where all atoms are maximally pumped, nontrivial steady state corresponding to monochromatic superradiance (Phase II), and amplitude-modulated superradiance (Phase III). Phases I and II are fixed points of the mean-field dynamics, while in most of Phase III stable attractors are limit cycles. Equations of motion possess an axial symmetry and a $\mathbb{Z}_{2}$ symmetry with respect to the interchange of the two clocks. Either one or both of these symmetries are spontaneously broken in various phases. The trivial steady state loses stability via a supercritical Hopf bifurcation bringing about a $\mathbb{Z}_{2}$-symmetric limit cycle. The nontrivial steady state goes through a subcritical Hopf bifurcation responsible for coexistence of monochromatic and amplitude-modulated superradiance. Using Floquet analysis, we show that the $\mathbb{Z}_{2}$-symmetric limit cycle eventually becomes unstable and gives rise to two $\mathbb{Z}_{2}$-asymmetric limit cycles via a supercritical pitchfork bifurcation. Each of the above attractors has its own unique fingerprint in the power spectrum of the light radiated from the cavity. In particular, limit cycles in Phase III emit frequency combs - series of equidistant peaks, where the symmetry of the frequency comb reflects the symmetry of the underlying limit cycle. For typical experimental parameters, the spacing between the peaks is several orders of magnitude smaller than the monochromatic superradiance frequency, making the lasing frequency highly tunable.

Chaotic Synchronization between Atomic Clocks

We predict synchronization of the chaotic dynamics of two atomic ensembles coupled to a heavily damped optical cavity mode. The atoms are dissipated collectively through this mode and pumped incoherently to achieve a macroscopic population of the cavity photons. Even though the dynamics of each ensemble are chaotic, their motions repeat one another. In our system, chaos first emerges via quasiperiodicity and then synchronizes. We identify the signatures of synchronized chaos, chaos, and quasiperiodicity in the experimentally observable power spectra of the light emitted by the cavity.

"Old" Conformal Bootstrap in the AdS/CFT Context

The Schwinger-Dyson equations for Green functions and 3-vertexes in planar approximation used 50 years ago in the earlier theory of conformal bootstrap are written in frames of the AdS/CFT correspondence. The technique of "Wightman-Witten" diagrams is used in calculations of the bubble bulk diagrams that permitted to obtain the values of conformal dimensions of primary operators in two models of the interacting bulk scalar fields which conformal dimensions obey "extremal" relation. Simple expressions for the four-point tree "Wightman-Witten" correlators of these primary operators are obtained and spectra of corresponding Bethe-Salpeter equations are calculated.

Comment on "Nonequilibrium dynamics of superconductivity in the attractive Hubbard model"

In a recent preprint [arXiv:1803.04118v2] Chern and Barros report numerical simulations of the mean-field interaction quench dynamics, $U_i\to U_f$, of the attractive Hubbard model that confirm our earlier prediction [Europhys. Lett. 85, 20004 (2008), arXiv:0805.2798] of spontaneous eruption of spatial inhomogeneities in the post-quench state with periodically oscillating superconducting order. Chern and Barros attribute this instability with respect to spatial fluctuations to the large magnitude of the final Hubbard coupling $U_f$. We point out that this interpretation is inaccurate and discuss further work necessary to numerically verify the mechanism of the instability and the nature of the steady state.

Scalar field on AdS: quantum one loop "in one line"

It is shown that quantum one-loop potentials of the bulk fields in the Randall and Sundrum (RS) model may be immediately expressed in integrals with use of Barvinsky-Nesterov or equivalently Gelfand-Yaglom methods of calculation of quantum determinants. Simple expression is obtained for the UV-finite difference of one-loop quantum energies for two arbitrary values of parameter of the double-trace asymptotic boundary condition in one-brane and two-brane RS-models. Compact formula for Schwinger-DeWitt expansion gives values of induced Planck mass and induced gauge coupling constant in transverse space. S-DW expansion is plagued by IR-divergences in one-brane RS-model and makes sense in two-brane model.

Simple way to calculate UV-finite one-loop quantum energy in Randall-Sundrum model

The surprising simplicity of Barvinsky-Nesterov or equivalently Gelfand-Yaglom methods of calculation of quantum determinants permits to obtain compact expressions for UV-finite difference of one-loop quantum energies for two arbitrary values of parameter of the double-trace asymptotic boundary conditions. This result generalizes Gubser and Mitra calculation for particular case of difference of "regular" and "irregular" one-loop energies in one-brane RS-model. Approach developed in the paper also allows to get "in one line" the one-loop quantum energies in two-brane RS-model. The relationship between "one-loop" expressions corresponding to mixed Robin and to double-trace asymptotic boundary conditions is traced.

Superconductivity near a quantum-critical point: The special role of the first Matsubara frequency

Near a quantum-critical point in a metal strong fermion-fermion interaction mediated by a soft collective boson gives rise to incoherent, non-Fermi liquid behavior. It also often gives rise to superconductivity which masks the non-Fermi liquid behavior. We analyze the interplay between superconductivity and fermionic incoherence for a set of quantum-critical models with effective dynamical interaction between low-energy fermions. We argue that superconductivity always develops above a quantum-critical point, no matter how strong the fermionic self-energy is. We argue that superconductivity should not be viewed as a pairing of incoherent fermions, as previously thought. Rather, $T_c$ is non-zero due to the fact that the self-energy is suppressed at the two lowest fermionic Matsubara frequencies $ω_m = \pm πT$. We obtain the analytic formula for $T_c$ which reproduces well numerical results for the electron-phonon model at vanishing Debye frequency.

Sakharov's induced gravity on the AdS background: SM scale as inverse mass parameter of the Schwinger-DeWitt expansion

One loop quantum effective action W of scalar field 'living' on the AdS background of the Randall-Sundrum model is defined here by now popular way which excludes bulk UV divergencies; thus induced Planck mass is given not by the UV regularization parameter, like in Sakharov's pioneer work, but by the location of the UV-cut of AdS space. Resummation of Schwinger-DeWitt expansion of the action W is performed by the novel 'auxiliary mass' method. The inverse mass squared parameter of this expansion is determined by the location of the 'visible' IR-brane of the RS-model. Obtained expression for induced vacuum energy density coincides with the independently calculated VEV of the stress-energy tensor. Corresponding potential in 4 dimensions possesses a non-trivial extremum which hopefully will permit us to stabilize IR brane and hence to fix the observed small value of mass hierarchy in analogy with the Coleman-Weinberg mechanism. It is demonstrated that naive equating of values of the induced Planck mass and vacuum energy density to those of the RS-model determines otherwise arbitrary constants of the model. A principle of quantum self-consistency generalizing this approach is proposed.

Support set of random wave-functions on the Bethe lattice

We introduce a new measure of ergodicity, the support set $S_\varepsilon$, for random wave functions on disordered lattices. It is more sensitive than the traditional inverse participation ratios and their moments in the cases where the extended state is very sparse. We express the typical support set $S_{\varepsilon}$ in terms of the distribution function of the wave function amplitudes and illustrate the scaling of $S_{\varepsilon}\propto N^α$ with $N$ (the lattice size) for the most general case of the multi-fractal distribution. A number of relationships between the new exponent $α$ and the conventional spectrum of multi-fractal dimensions is established. These relationships are tested by numerical study of statistics of wave functions on disordered Bethe lattices. We also obtain numerically the finite-size spectrum of fractal dimensions on the Bethe lattice which shows two apparent fixed points as $N$ increases. The results allow us to conjecture that extended states on the Bethe lattice at all strengths of disorder below the localization transition are non-ergodic with a clear multifractal structure that evolves towards almost ergodic behavior in the clean limit.

Mach's Principle selects 4 space-time dimensions

Bi-tensor kernel in integral form of Einstein equations realizing Mach's idea of non-existence of empty space-times is taken as an inverse of differential operator ("Mach operator") defined conventionally as a second variation of Einstein's gravity Action over contravariant components of metric tensor. The choice of transverse gauge condition used in this definition does not influence results of the paper since only transverse and traceless tensor modes written on different background space-times are studied. Presence of ghosts among modes of Mach operator invalidates the integral formulation of Einstein equations. And the demand of absence of these ghosts proves to be a selection rule for dimensionality of the background space-time. In particular Mach operator written on De Sitter background or on the background of so called "Einstein Universe" does not possess tensor ghosts only in 4-dimensions. The similar demand gives non-trivial formula for dimensionalities of subspaces of the Freund-Rubin background.

Transport anomaly at the ordering transition for adatoms on graphene

We analyze a manifestation of the partial ordering transition of adatoms on graphene in resistivity measurements. We find that Kekule mosaic ordering of adatoms increases sheet resistance of graphene, due to a gap opening in its spectrum, and that critical fluctuations of the order parameter lead to a non-monotonic temperature dependence of resistivity, with a cusp-like minimum at T=T_c.

BCS superconductivity in metallic nanograins: Finite-size corrections, low energy excitations, and robustness of shell effects

We combine the BCS self-consistency condition, a semiclassical expansion for the spectral density and interaction matrix elements to describe analytically how the superconducting gap depends on the size and shape of a 2d and 3d superconducting grain. In chaotic grains mesoscopic fluctuations of the matrix elements lead to a smooth dependence of the order parameter on the excitation energy. In the integrable case we find shell effects i. e. for certain values of the electron number $N$ a small change in N leads to large changes in the energy gap. With regard to possible experimental tests we provide a detailed analysis of the dependence of the gap on the coherence length and the robustness of shell effects under small geometrical deformations.

Quantum quench in 1D: Coherent inhomogeneity amplification and 'supersolitons'

We study a quantum quench in a 1D system possessing Luttinger liquid (LL) and Mott insulating ground states before and after the quench, respectively. We show that the quench induces power law amplification in time of any particle density inhomogeneity in the initial LL ground state. The scaling exponent is set by the fractionalization of the LL quasiparticle number relative to the insulator. As an illustration, we consider the traveling density waves launched from an initial localized density bump. While these waves exhibit a particular rigid shape, their amplitudes grow without bound.

Ordered states of adatoms on graphene

We show that a dilute ensemble of epoxy-bonded adatoms on graphene has a tendency to form a spatially correlated state accompanied by a gap in graphene's electron spectrum. This effect emerges from the electron-mediated interaction between adatoms with a peculiar $1/r^3$ distance dependence. The partial ordering transition is described by a random bond three state Potts model.

Electron neutrino mass scale in spectrum of Dirac equation with the 5-form flux term on the AdS(5)xS(5) background

Dimensional reduction from 10 to 5 dimensions of the IIB supergravity Dirac equation written down on the AdS(5)xS(5) (+ self-dual 5-form) background provides the unambiguous values of bulk masses of Fermions in the effective 5D Randall Sundrum theory. The use of "untwisted" and "twisted" (hep-th/0012378) boundary conditions at the UV and IR ends of the warped space-time results in two towers of spectrum of Dirac equation: the ordinary one which is linear in spectral number and the "twisted" one exponentially decreasing with growth of spectral number. Taking into account of the Fermion-5-form interaction (hep-th/9811106) gives the electron neutrino mass scale in the "twisted" spectrum of Dirac equation. Profiles in extra space of the eigenfunctions of left and right "neutrinos" drastically differ which may result in the extremely small coupling of light right neutrino with ordinary matter thus joining it to plethora of candidates for Dark Matter.
