Filtrations of random processes in the light of classification theory. I. A topological zero-one law

Filtered probability spaces (called "filtrations" for short) are shown to satisfy such a topological zero-one law: for every property of filtrations, either the property holds for almost all filtrations, or its negation does. In particular, almost all filtrations are conditionally nonatomic. An accurate formulation is given in terms of orbit equivalence relations on Polish G-spaces. The set of all isomorphic classes of filtrations may be identified with the orbit space X/G for a special Polish G-space X. A "property of filtrations" means a G-invariant subset of X having the Baire property. "Almost all filtrations" means a comeager subset of X (the Baire category approach). The zero-one law is a kind of ergodicity of X. It holds for filtrations both in discrete and continuous time. The interplay between probability theory and descriptive set theory could be interesting for both parties.

Spectral densities describing off-white noises

For the white noise, the spectral density is constant, and the past (restriction to (-\infty,0)) is independent from the future (restriction to (0,+\infty)). If the spectral density is not too far from being constant, then dependence between the past and the future can be eliminated by an equivalent measure change; that is called an off-white noise. I derive from well-known results a necessary and sufficient condition for a spectral density to describe an off-white noise.

From slightly coloured noises to unitless product systems

Stationary Gaussian generalized random processes having slowly decreasing spectral densities give rise to product systems in the sense of William Arveson (basically, continuous tensor product systems of Hilbert spaces). A continuum of nonisomorphic unitless product systems is produced, answering a question of Arveson.

A non-Fock fermion toy model

Recent progress in mathematical theory of random processes provides us with non-Fock product systems (continuous tensor products of Hilbert spaces) used here for constructing a toy model for fermions. Some state vectors describe infinitely many particles in a finite region; the particles accumulate to a point. Electric charge can be assigned to the particles, the total charge being zero. Time dynamics is not considered yet, only kinematics (a single time instant).

Fourier-Walsh coefficients for a coalescing flow (discrete time)

A two-dimensional array of independent random signs produces coalescing random walks. The position of the walk, starting at the origin, after N steps is a highly nonlinear, noise sensitive function of the signs. A typical term of its Fourier-Walsh expansion involves the product of about square roof of N signs.

Unitary Brownian motions are linearizable

Brownian motions in the infinite-dimensional group of all unitary operators are studied under strong continuity assumption rather than norm continuity. Every such motion can be described in terms of a countable collection of independent one-dimensional Brownian motions. The proof involves continuous tensor products and continuous quantum measurements. A by-product: a Brownian motion in a separable F-space (not locally convex) is a Gaussian process.
