Quantifying the Value of Revert Protection

Revert protection is a feature provided by some blockchain platforms that prevents users from incurring fees for failed transactions. We study the economic implications and benefits of revert protection in the context of priority gas auctions and maximal extractable value. We develop a model in which searchers bid for a top-of-block arbitrage opportunity under varying degrees of revert protection. This model applies to a broad range of settings, including bundle auctions on L1s and priority ordering sequencing rules on L2s. We quantify, in closed form, how revert protection improves equilibrium auction revenue, market efficiency, and blockspace efficiency.

What Drives Liquidity on Decentralized Exchanges? Evidence from the Uniswap Protocol

We study liquidity on decentralized exchanges (DEXs), identifying factors at the platform, blockchain, token pair, and liquidity pool levels with predictive power for market depth metrics. We introduce the v2 counterfactual spread metric, a novel criterion which assesses the degree of liquidity concentration in pools using the ``concentrated liquidity'' mechanism, allowing us to decompose the effect of a factor on market depth into two channels: total value locked (TVL) and concentration. We further explore how external liquidity from competing DEXs and private inventory on DEX aggregators influence market depth. We find that (i) gas prices, returns, and a DEX's share of trading volume affect liquidity through concentration, (ii) internalization of order flow by private market makers affects TVL but not the overall market depth, and (iii) volatility, fee revenue, and markout affect liquidity through both channels.

Quantifying Price Improvement in Order Flow Auctions

This work introduces a framework for evaluating onchain order flow auctions (OFAs), emphasizing the metric of price improvement. Utilizing a set of open-source tools, our methodology systematically attributes price improvements to specific modifiable inputs of the system such as routing efficiency, gas optimization, and priority fee settings. When applied to leading Ethereum-based trading interfaces such as 1Inch and Uniswap, the results reveal that auction-enhanced interfaces can provide statistically significant improvements in trading outcomes, averaging 4-5 basis points in our sample. We further identify the sources of such price improvements to be added liquidity for large swaps. This research lays a foundation for future innovations in blockchain based trading platforms.

Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking from an On-Shell Perspective

We show how the well known patterns of masses and interactions that arise from spontaneous symmetry breaking can be determined from an entirely on-shell perspective, that is, without reference to Lagrangians, gauge symmetries, or fields acquiring a vacuum expectation value. To do this, we review how consistent factorization of $2\rightarrow 2$ tree level scattering can lead to the familiar structures of Yang-Mills theories, and extend this to find structures of Yukawa theories. Considering only spins-$0$, $1/2$ and $1$ particles, we construct all the allowed on-shell UV amplitudes under a symmetry group $G$, and consider all the possible IR amplitudes. By demanding that on-shell IR amplitudes match onto on-shell UV amplitudes in the high energy limit, we reproduce the Higgs mechanism and generate masses for spins-$1/2$ and $1$, find that there is a subgroup $H \subseteq G$ in the IR, and other interesting relations. To highlight the results, we show the breaking pattern of the Standard Model $U(1)_{EM} \subset SU(2)_L \times U(1)_Y $, along with the generation of the masses and interactions of the particles.

Stringy Completions of the Standard Model from the Bottom Up

We study a class of tree-level ans\"atze for $2\to 2$ scalar and gauge boson amplitudes inspired by stringy UV completions. These amplitudes manifest Regge boundedness and are exponentially soft for fixed-angle high energy scattering, but unitarity in the form of positive expandability of massive residues is a nontrivial consistency condition. In particular, unitarity forces these ans\"atze to include graviton exchange. In the context of gauge boson scattering, we study gauge groups $SO(N)$ and $SU(N)$. In four dimensions, the bound on the rank of the gauge group is $24$ for both groups, and occurs at the maximum value of the gauge coupling $g_{YM}^2 = \frac{2M_s^2}{ M_P^2} $. In integer dimensions $ 5\leq D \leq 10$ , we find evidence that the maximum allowed allowed rank $r$ of the gauge group agrees with the swampland conjecture $r < 26-D$. The bound is surprisingly identical for both $SU(N)$ and $SO(N)$ in integer spacetime dimensions. We also study the electroweak sector of the standard model via $2 \to 2$ Higgs scattering and find interesting constraints relating standard model couplings, the putative string scale, and the Planck scale

Boosted Top Quarks in the Peak Region with N$^3$LL Resummation

We present results for the 2-jettiness differential distribution for boosted top quark pairs produced in $e^+e^-$ collisions in the peak region accounting for QCD large-logarithm resummation at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic (N$^3$LL) order and fixed-order corrections to matrix elements at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) calculated in the framework of soft-collinear effective theory and boosted heavy quark effective theory. Electroweak and finite-width effects are included at leading order. We study the perturbative convergence of the cross section in the pole and MSR mass schemes, with and without soft gap subtractions. We find that there is a partial cancellation between the pole mass and soft function renormalons. When renormalon subtractions concerning the top mass and the soft function are implemented, the perturbative uncertainties are, however, systematically smaller and an improvement in the stability of the peak position is observed. We find that the top MSR mass may be determined with perturbative uncertainties well below $100$\,MeV from the peak position of the 2-jettiness distribution. This result has important applications for Monte Carlo top quark mass calibrations.

On-Shell Electroweak Sector and the Higgs Mechanism

We take the first steps towards an entirely on-shell description of the bosonic electroweak sector of the Standard Model. We write down on-shell three particle amplitudes consistent with Poincare' invariance and little group covariance. Tree-level, four particle amplitudes are determined by demanding consistent factorization on all poles and correct UV behaviour. We present expressions for these $2\rightarrow 2$ scattering amplitudes using massive spinor helicity variables. We show that on-shell consistency conditions suffice to derive relations between the masses of the $W^\pm, Z$, the Weinberg angle and the couplings. This provides a completely on-shell description of the Higgs mechanism without any reference to the vacuum expectation value of the Higgs field.
