Higgs-field Portal into Hidden Sectors

The Higgs field mass term, being superrenomalizable, has a unique status within the standard model. Through the opening it affords, $SU(3) \times SU(2) \times U(1)$ singlet fields can have renormalizable couplings to standard model fields. We present examples that are neither grotesque nor unnatural. A possible consequence is to spread the Higgs particle resonance into several weaker ones, or to afford it additional, effectively invisible decay channels.

Example of a Hidden Flavor Sector

We exemplify earlier general considerations on flavor symmetry breaking employing a hidden sector and exploiting supersymmetry in a specific model. The model is at best a caricature of reality, but it is sufficient to display mechanisms for the natural emergence of minimal low-energy Higgs structure, non-trivial texture zeros and symmetry, and coupling to the standard model only through Higgs fields, which could be considerably more general.

General Issues Connecting Flavor Symmetry and Supersymmetry

We motivate and construct supersymmetric theories with continuous flavor symmetry, under which the electroweak Higgs doublets transform non-trivially. Flavor symmetry is spontaneously broken at a large mass scale in a sector of gauge-singlet fields; the light Higgs multiplets naturally emerge as special linear combinations that avoid acquiring the generic large mass. Couplings of the light Higgs doublets to light moduli fields from the singlet sector could lead to important effects in the phenomenology of the Higgs sector.
