Exploring the QGP phase above the deconfinement temperature in $pp$ and $A-A$ collisions at LHC energies

In the present work we have analyzed the transverse momentum spectra of charged particles in high multiplicity ${\it pp}$ collisions at LHC energies $\sqrt s = $ 5.02 and 13 TeV published by the ALICE Collaboration using the Color String Percolation Model (CSPM). For heavy ions Pb-Pb at $\sqrt {s_{NN}} =$ 2.76 and 5.02 TeV along with Xe-Xe at $\sqrt {s_{NN}} = $ 5.44 TeV have been analyzed. The initial temperature is extracted both in low and high multiplicity events in ${\it pp}$ collisions. For $A-A$ collisions the temperature is obtained as a function of centrality. A universal scaling in the temperature from $pp$ and $A-A$ collisions is obtained when multiplicity is scaled by the transverse interaction area.From the measured energy density $\bm \varepsilon$ and the temperature the dimensionless quantity $\bm \varepsilon/T^{4}$ is obtained. Our results for Pb-Pb and Xe-Xe collisions show a sharp increase in $\bm \varepsilon/T^{4}$ above T $\sim$ 210 MeV and reaching the ideal gas of quarks and gluons value of $\bm \varepsilon/T^{4} \sim$ 16 at temperature $\sim $ 230 MeV. In case of $pp$ collisions only $\bm \varepsilon/T^{4} \sim $ 10 corresponding to $\sim$ 30 degrees of freedom.

Percolation Approach to Initial Stage Effects in High Energy Collisions

Possible phase transition of strongly interacting matter from hadron to a quark-gluon plasma state have in the past received considerable interest. The clustering of color sources provides a framework of the the partonic interactions in the initial stage of the collisions. The onset of de-confinement transition is identified by the spanning percolation cluster in 2D percolation. In this talk results are presented both for the multiplicity and the elliptic flow at RHIC and LHC energies. The thermodynamic quantities temperature, equation of state and transport coefficient are obtained in the framework of clustering of color sources. It is shown that the results are in excellent agreement with the recent lattice QCD calculations(LQCD).

Percolation and Deconfinement

Possible phase transition of strongly interacting matter from hadron to a Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) state have in the p ast received considerable interest. It has been suggested that this problem might be treated by percolation theory. Th e Color String Percolation Model (CSPM) is used to determine the equation of state (EOS) of the QGP produced in central Au-Au collisions at RHIC energies. The bulk thermodynamic quantities- energy density, entropy density and t he sound velocity- are obtained in the framework of CSPM. It is shown that the results are in excellent agreement with the recent lattice QCD calculations(LQCD).

STAR's measurement of Long-range forward-backward multiplicity correlations as the signature of "dense partonic matter" in the Heavy Ion collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=$200 GeV.}

Forward-backward multiplicity correlations have been measured with the STAR detector for Au+Au, Cu+Cu and {\it p+p} collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV. A strong, long-range correlation is observed for central heavy ion collisions that vanishes in semi-peripheral events and {\it pp} collisions. There is no apparent scaling of correlation strength with the number of participants involved in the collision. Both the Dual Parton Model and the Color Glass condensate indicate that the long range correlations are due to multiple parton interactions. This suggests that the dense partonic matter might have been created in mid-central and central Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV.

Fluctuations and Correlations in STAR

The study of correlations and fluctuations can provide evidence for the production of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) in relativistic heavy ion collisions. Various theories predict that the production of a QGP phase in relativistic heavy ion collisions could produce significant event-by-event correlations and fluctuations in, transverse momentum, multiplicity, etc. Some of the recent results using STAR at RHIC will be presented along with results from other experiments at RHIC. The focus is on forward-backward multiplicity correlations, balance function, charge and transverse momentum fluctuations, and correlations.
