Erbium-based multifuncional compounds as molecular microkelvin-tunable driving-sensing units

We demonstrate the selective control of the magnetic response and photoluminescence properties of Er3+ centers with light, by associating them with a highly conjugated beta-diketonate (1,3-di(2-naphthyl)-1,3-propanedione) ligand. We demonstrate this system to be an optically-pumped molecular compound emittingin infra-red, which can be employed as a precise heat-driving and detecting unit for low temperatures

Self-doped graphite nanobelts

We report that mechanical deformation of graphite with cavity shock waves introduces a new group of charge carriers, with both effective mass and native concentration one order of magnitude above those found in the pristine material. Their nature, however, remains quasi-2D. Our results show that defects introduced during mechanical exfoliation have the potential to unlock oscillatory behavior above 50 T in graphite, thus providing a new probe for field-induced electronic phase transitions in the material.

Macroscopic-ranged proximity effect in graphite

We report the observation of proximity effect in measurements performed on highly oriented pyrolitic graphite (HOPG) samples when electrical current is injected through the superconducting electrodes placed on the sample surface few millimeters apart from each other. Such anomalously large effect is surprising, as proximity-induced superconducting features in normal conductors hardly surpass few micrometers. The obtained results can be consistently understood, however, considering pre-existing superconducting correlations in graphite, supported by recent observations of the intrinsic global superconductivity in twisted bi- and multi-layer graphenes.
