On multiplicative subgroups in division rings

Let $D$ be a division ring. In this paper, we investigate properties of subgroups of an arbitrary subnormal subgroup of the multiplicative group $D^*$ of $D$. The new obtained results generalize some previous results on subgroups of $D^*$.

On subgroups in division rings of type $2$

Let $D$ be a division ring with center $F$. We say that $D$ is a {\em division ring of type $2$} if for every two elements $x, y\in D,$ the division subring $F(x, y)$ is a finite dimensional vector space over $F$. In this paper we investigate multiplicative subgroups in such a ring.

On weakly locally finite division rings

Weakly locally finite division rings were considered in \cite{dbh}, where it was mentioned that the class of weakly locally finite division rings properly contains the class of locally finite division rings. In this paper, for any integer $n\geq 0$ or $n=\infty$, we construct a weakly locally finite division ring whose Gelfand-Kirillov dimension is $n$. This fact shows in particular that there exist infinitely many weakly locally finite division rings that are not locally finite. Further, for the class of weakly locally finite division rings, we investigate some questions related with the well-known Kurosh Problem and with one of Herstein's conjectures.

On division subrings normalized by almost subnormal subgroups in division rings

Let $D$ be a division ring with infinite center, $K$ a proper division subring of $D$ and $N$ an almost subnormal subgroup of the multiplicative group $D^*$ of $D$. The aim of this paper is to show that if $K$ is $N$-invariant and $N$ is non-central, then $K$ is central. Some examples of almost subnormal subgroups in division rings that are not subnormal are also given.

On free subgroups in maximal subgroups of skew linear groups

The study of the existence of free groups in skew linear groups have been begun since the last decades of the 20-th century. The starting point is the theorem of Tits (1972), now often is referred as Tits' Alternative, stating that every finitely generated subgroup of the general linear group $\GL_n(F)$ over a field $F$ either contains a non-cyclic free subgroup or it is solvable-by-finite. In this paper, we study the existence of non-cyclic free subgroups in maximal subgroups of an almost subnormal subgroup of the general skew linear group over a locally finite division ring.

On subnormal subgroups in division rings containing a non-abelian solvable subgroup

Let $D$ be a division ring with center $F$ and $N$ a subnormal subgroup of the multiplicative group $D^*$ of $D$. Assume that $N$ contains a non-abelian solvable subgroup. In this paper, we study the problem on the existence of non-abelian free subgroups in $N$. In particular, we show that if either $N$ is algebraic over $F$ or $F$ is uncountable, then $N$ contains a non-abelian free subgroup.

Almost subnormal subgroups in division rings with generalized algebraic rational identities

In this paper we study non-central almost subnormal subgroups of the multiplicative group of a division ring satisfying a non-zero generalized rational identity. The main result generalizes Chiba's theorem on subnormal subgroups. As an application, we get a theorem on almost subnormal subgroups satisfying a generalized algebraic rational identity. The last theorem has several corollaries which generalize completely or partially some previous results.

Free subgroups in almost subnormal subgroups of general skew linear groups

Let $D$ be a weakly locally finite division ring and $n$ a positive integer. In this paper, we investigate the problem on the existence of non-cyclic free subgroups in non-central almost subnormal subgroups of the general linear group ${\rm GL}_n(D)$. Further, some applications of this fact are also investigated. In particular, all infinite finitely generated almost subnormal subgroups of ${\rm GL}_n(D)$ are described.

Generalized algebraic rational identities of subnormal subgroups in division rings

In this note, we introduce a new concept of a {\it generalized algebraic rational identity} to investigate the structure of division rings. The main theorem asserts that if a non-central subnormal subgroup $N$ of the multiplicative group $D^*$ of a division ring $D$ with center $F$ satisfies a non-trivial generalized algebraic rational identity of bounded degree, then $D$ is a finite dimensional vector space over $F$. This generalizes some previous results.

On linear groups over weakly locally finite division rings

In this paper, we give the definition of {\em weakly locally finite} division rings and we show that the class of these rings strictly contains the class of locally finite division rings. Further, we study multiplicative subgroups in these rings. Some skew linear groups are also considered. Our new obtained results generalize previous results for centrally finite case.

On one Laurent series ring over an extension of $\mathbb{Q}$

In this paper, using the general Mal'cev-Neumann construction of Laurent series rings, we construct a Laurent series ring with a base ring which is an extension of the field $\mathbb{Q}$ of rational numbers. Further, we establish some useful properties of such a ring.

Linear groups over a locally linear division ring

In this paper, in the first we give definitions of some classes of division rings which strictly contain the class of centrally finite division rings. One of our main purpose is to construct non-trivial examples of rings of new defined classes. Further, we study linear groups over division rings of these classes. Our new obtained results generalize precedent results for centrally finite division rings.

On locally nilpotent maximal subgroups of the multiplicative group of a division ring

Let $D$ be a division ring with the center $F$ and $D^*$ be the multiplicative group of $D$. In this paper we study locally nilpotent maximal subgroups of $D^*$. We give some conditions that influence the existence of locally nilpotent maximal subgroups in division ring with infinite center. Also, it is shown that if $M$ is a locally nilpotent maximal subgroup that is algebraic over $F$, then either it is the multiplicative group of some maximal subfield of $D$ or it is center by locally finite. If, in addition we assume that $F$ is finite and $M$ is nilpotent, then the second case cannot occur, i.e. $M$ is the multiplicative group of some maximal subfield of $D$.
