Capacity and measure approximations for Schrödinger operators

We prove that logarithmic capacity convergence for phase-union spectra of quasi-periodic Schrödinger operators in the zero Lyapunov exponent regime is robust, requiring only continuity of the potential. Let $S^+(p/q)$ denote the union, over the phase, of the spectra at rational frequency $p/q$. We show that if the Lyapunov exponent vanishes on the spectrum $Σ(α)$ at an irrational frequency $α$, then for every sequence $p_n/q_n\toα$, the logarithmic capacities $Cap(S^+(p_n/q_n))\longrightarrow Cap(Σ(α)).$ We also prove convergence of the corresponding harmonic measures. As a consequence, the equilibrium measures of $S^+(p_n/q_n)$ converge in the weak$^*$ topology to the density of states measure of the quasi-periodic Schrödinger operator. We extend these results to multi-frequency Schrödinger operators and prove analogous convergence theorems, for logarithmic capacity, harmonic measure, and equilibrium measure, for ergodic Schrödinger operators in a general setting where the almost sure spectrum is approximated in the Hausdorff metric by union spectra of periodic operators. This abstract formulation applies, in particular, to uniformly almost periodic potentials along sequences of almost periods. We also provide counterexamples when the limiting frequency is rational.

On the spectra of periodic discontinuous quantum graphs

We consider periodic Schrödinger operators on the hexagonal lattice with self-adjoint vertex conditions that allow discontinuity and concentrated mass at the vertices. This model generalizes the periodic Schrödinger operator on the hexagonal lattice with Neumann vertex conditions, known as the graphene Hamiltonian quantum graph. After formulating the corresponding Hamiltonian as a quantum graph and introducing the self adjoint vertex conditions, we provide its dispersion relation, spectrum, eigenvalues, and Dirac points. We also give explicit formulations of our results for the corresponding free operator (zero potential) and show that Borg's theorem is not valid for the Hamiltonians we study, that is, non-degenerate spectral gaps exist for the free operator with our vertex conditions.

Spectral bounds for ergodic Jacobi operators

We consider ergodic Jacobi operators and obtain estimates on the Lebesgue measure and the distance between maximum and minimum points of the spectrum in terms of the Lyapunov exponent. Our proofs are based on results from logarithmic potential theory and their connections with spectral theory of Jacobi operators.

Spectral bounds for periodic Jacobi matrices

We consider periodic Jacobi operators and obtain upper and lower estimates on the sizes of the spectral bands. Our proofs are based on estimates on the logarithmic capacities and connections between the Chebyshev polynomials and logarithmic capacity of compact subsets of the real line.

Uniqueness theorems for meromorphic inner functions and canonical systems

We prove uniqueness problems for meromorphic inner functions on the upper half-plane. In these problems we consider spectral data depending partially or fully on the spectrum, derivative values at the spectrum, Clark measure or the spectrum of the negative of a meromorphic inner function. Moreover we consider applications of these uniqueness results to inverse spectral theory of canonical Hamiltonian systems and obtain generalizations of Borg-Levinson two-spectra theorem for canonical Hamiltonian systems and unique determination of a Hamiltonian from its spectral measure under some conditions.

On the Spectra of Periodic Elastic Beam Lattices: Single-Layer Graph

We present full description of spectra for a Hamiltonian defined on periodic hexagonal elastic lattices. These continua are constructed out of Euler-Bernoulli beams, each governed by a scalar-valued self-adjoint operator, which is also known as the fourth order Schrödinger operator, equipped with a real periodic symmetric potential. In contrast to the second order Schrödinger operator commonly applied in quantum graph literature, here vertex matching conditions encode geometry of the underlying graph by their dependence on angles at which edges are met. We show that for a special equal angle lattice, known as graphene, dispersion relation has a similar structure as reported for the periodic second order Schrödinger operator on hexagonal lattices. This property is then further utilized to prove existence of singular Dirac points. We further discuss reducibility of Fermi surface at uncountably many low-energy levels for this special lattice. Applying perturbation analysis, we extend the developed theory to derive dispersion relation for angle-perturbed Hamiltonian of hexagonal lattices in a geometric neighborhood of graphene. In these graphs, unlike graphene, dispersion relation is not splitted into purely energy and quasimomentum dependent terms, however singular Dirac points exist similar to the graphene case.

Ambarzumian-type problems for discrete Schrödinger operators

We discuss the problem of unique determination of the finite free discrete Schrödinger operator from its spectrum, also known as Ambarzumian problem, with various boundary conditions, namely any real constant boundary condition at zero and Floquet boundary conditions of any angle. Then we prove the following Ambarzumian-type mixed inverse spectral problem: Diagonal entries except the first and second ones and a set of two consecutive eigenvalues uniquely determine the finite free discrete Schrödinger operator.

Mixed Data in Inverse Spectral Problems for the Schrödinger Operators

We consider the Schrödinger operator on a finite interval with an $L^1$-potential. We prove that the potential can be uniquely recovered from one spectrum and subsets of another spectrum and point masses of the spectral measure (or norming constants) corresponding to the first spectrum. We also solve this Borg-Marchenko-type problem under some conditions on two spectra, when missing part of the second spectrum and known point masses of the spectral measure have different index sets.

Inverse Problems for Jacobi Operators with Mixed Spectral Data

We consider semi-infinite Jacobi matrices with discrete spectrum. We prove that the Jacobi operator can be uniquely recovered from one spectrum and subsets of another spectrum and norming constants corresponding to the first spectrum. We also solve this Borg-Marchenko-type problem under some conditions on two spectra, when missing part of the second spectrum and known norming constants have different index sets.
