Decompactification and the Flat-Space Limit of AdS$_5\times$ S$^5$ Master Correlators

We study the flat-space limit of AdS$_5$/CFT$_4$ holographic correlators while accounting for the simultaneous decompactification of the internal S$^5$. We show that this limit is naturally formulated in terms of master propagators and correlators, which resum the infinite tower of Kaluza--Klein modes. For boundary correlators, the resulting expressions can be interpreted in terms of amplitudes with kinematics restricted to 5d. We then consider master correlators whose external insertions are kept in the AdS$_5\times$S$^5$ bulk before taking the limit, and argue that they recover flat-space amplitudes with unrestricted kinematics in 10d Minkowski space. Finally, we show that the flat-space limit commutes with the boundary limit if we analytically continue the sphere so that the bulk geometry becomes AdS$_5 \times$dS$_5$, and the resulting formulae suggest an interpretation in terms of amplitudes in flat space with two time directions and with 10d kinematics satisfying two simultaneous null constraints. We discuss the implications of these constructions for flat-space holography and its relation to the Carrollian limit of the dual CFT.

The off-shell one- and two-loop box recovered from intersection theory

We advertise intersection theory for generalised hypergeometric functions as a means of evaluating Mellin-Barnes representations. As an example, we study two-parameter representations of the off-shell one- and two-loop box graphs in exactly four-dimensional configuration space. Closing the integration contours for the MB parameters we transform these into double sums. Polygamma functions in the MB representation of the double box and the occurrence of higher poles are taken into account by parametric differentiation. Summing over any one of the counters results into a $_{p+1}F_p$ that we replace by its Euler integral representation. The process can be repeated a second time and results in a two- or four-parameter Euler integral, respectively. We use intersection theory to derive Pfaffian systems of equations on related sets of master integrals and solve for the box and double box integrals reproducing the known expressions. Finally, we use a trick to re-derive the double box from a two-parameter Euler integral. This second computation requires only very little computing resources.

Gluing via Intersection Theory

Higher-point functions in N = 4 super Yang-Mills theory can be constructed using integrability by triangulating the surfaces on which Feynman graphs would be drawn. It remains hard to analytically compute the necessary re-gluing of the tiles by virtual particles. We propose a new approach to study a series of residues encountered in the two-particle gluing of the planar one-loop five-point function of stress tensor multiplets. After exposing the twisted period nature of the integral functions, we employ intersection theory to derive canonical differential equations and present a solution.

Anomalous dimensions from the $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM hexagon

We consider the correlator $\langle \mathcal{L} \mathcal{K} \tilde{ \mathcal{K}} \rangle $ of the Lagrange operator of $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory and two conjugate two-excitation operators in an $su(2)$ sector. We recover the planar one-loop anomalous dimension of the renormalised operators from this hexagon computation.

Double excitations in the AdS(5)/CFT(4) integrable system and the Lagrange operator

It is argued that the integrable model for the planar spectrum of the AdS/CFT correspondence can accommodate for the full spectrum of excitations $D^{α\dot α}, ϕ^{[IJ]}, ψ^I, \bar ψ_I, F^{αβ}, \tilde F^{\dot α\dot β}$ (with $I,J \in 1 \ldots 4$) if double excitations are allowed for all three raising operators of the internal $SU(4)$ symmetry. We present a tree-level analysis of related creation amplitudes in the nested Bethe ansatz as well as in the original level-1 picture in which excitations of various flavours scatter by a true $S$-matrix. In the latter case, the creation amplitudes for all double excitations we encounter take a perfectly universal form. Building on these ideas we work out Bethe solutions and states relevant in the mixing problem concerning the on-shell Lagrangian of ${\cal N} = 4$ super Yang-Mills theory. Owing to the very existence of double excitations, the chiral Yang-Mills field strength tensor can be represented by the four fermions $\{ψ^{31}, ψ^{32}, ψ^{41}, ψ^{42}\}$ moving on a spin chain of length two. Our analysis remains restricted to leading order in the coupling, where the conformal eigenstate corresponding to the on-shell Lagrangian only comprises the pure Yang-Mills action. It should eventually be possible to augment our analysis to higher loop orders by incorporating coupling corrections in the relevant ingredients from the Bethe ansatz. Finally, it was recently realised how structure constants for operators containing the hitherto hidden half of the excitations can be computed by the hexagon formalism. We use this for a first test of our conjecture for the on-shell Lagrangian, namely that its three-point function with two half-BPS operators of equal length ought to vanish.

Higher-rank sectors in the hexagon formalism and marginal deformations

The hexagon approach provides an integrability framework for the computation of structure constants in $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang--Mills theory in four dimensions. Three-point functions are cut into two hexagonal patches, on which the excitations of the long-range Bethe ansatz of the spectrum problem scatter. To this end, the Bethe states representing the operators also need to be cut into two parts. In rank-one sectors such entangled states are fairly straightforward to construct so that most applications of the method have so far been restricted to this simplest case. In this article we construct entangled states for operators in $psu(1,1|2)$ sectors, importing a minimum of information from the nested Bethe ansatz. The idea is successfully tested against free field theory for a sample set of correlators with up to three higher-rank operators. Further, we take a look at the same correlators in the presence of marginal deformations of the theory. While a systematic modification of the hexagon procedure remains out of reach for now, in practical applications the undeformed amplitudes are surprisingly efficient, especially for a certain one-parameter deformation.

Integrable bootstrap for AdS3/CFT2 correlation functions

We propose an integrable bootstrap framework for the computation of correlation functions for superstrings in $AdS_3\times S^3\times T^4$ backgrounds supported by an arbitrary mixture or Ramond-Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz-Neveu-Schwarz fluxes. The framework extends the "hexagon tessellation" approach which was originally proposed for $AdS_5\times S^5$ and for the first time it demonstrates its applicability to other (less supersymmetric) setups. We work out the hexagon form factor for two-particle states, including its dressing factors which follow from those of the spectral problem, and we show that it satisfies non-trivial consistency conditions. We propose a bootstrap principle, slightly different from that of $AdS_5\times S^5$, which allows to extend the form factor to arbitrarily many particles. Finally, we compare its predictions with some correlation functions of protected operators. Possible applications of this construction include the study of wrapping corrections, of higher-point correlation functions, and of non-planar corrections.

Bound State Scattering Simplified

In the description of the AdS5/CFT4 duality by an integrable system the scattering matrix for bound states plays a crucial role: it was initially constructed for the evaluation of finite size corrections to the planar spectrum of energy levels/anomalous dimensions by the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz, and more recently it re-appeared in the context of the glueing prescription of the hexagon approach to higher-point functions. In this work we present a simplified form of this scattering matrix and we make its pole structure manifest. We find some new relations between its matrix elements and also present an explicit form for its inverse. We finally discuss some of its properties including crossing symmetry. Our results will hopefully be useful for computing finite-size effects such as the ones given by the complicated sum-integrals arising from the glueing of hexagons, as well as help towards understanding universal features of the AdS5/CFT4 scattering matrix.

Multi-particle finite-volume effects for hexagon tessellations

Correlation functions of gauge-invariant composite operators in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory can be computed by integrability using triangulations. The elementary tile in this process is the hexagon, which should be glued by appropriately inserting resolutions of the identity involving virtual ("mirror") magnons. We consider this problem for five-point functions of protected operators. At one-loop in the 't Hooft coupling, it is necessary to glue three adjacent tiles which involves two virtual magnons scattering among each other. We show that the result can be simplified by using an adapted mirror rotation and employing appropriate summation techniques. The mirror-particle contributions then yield hyperlogarithms of weight two. Finally, we use these results to investigate braiding prescriptions introduced in earlier work on the problem.

Polylogarithms from the bound state S-matrix

Higher-point functions of gauge invariant composite operators in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory can be computed via triangulation. The elementary tile in this process is the hexagon introduced for the evaluation of structure constants. A glueing procedure welding the tiles back together is needed to return to the original object. In this note we present work in progress on n-point functions of BPS operators. In this case, quantum corrections are entirely carried by the glueing procedure. The lowest non-elementary process is the glueing of three adjacent tiles by the exchange of two single magnons. This problem has been analysed before. With a view to resolving some conceptional questions and to generalising to higher processes we are trying to develop an algorithmic approach using the representation of hypergeometric sums as integrals over Euler kernels.

Positivity of hexagon perturbation theory

The hexagon-form-factor program was proposed as a way to compute three- and higher-point correlation functions in $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-symmetric Yang-Mills theory and in the dual AdS$_5\times$S$^5$ superstring theory, by exploiting the integrability of the theory in the 't Hooft limit. This approach is reminiscent of the asymptotic Bethe ansatz in that it applies to a large-volume expansion. Finite-volume corrections can be incorporated through Lüscher-like formulae, though the systematics of this expansion is largely unexplored so far. Strikingly, finite-volume corrections may feature negative powers of the 't Hooft coupling $g$ in the small-$g$ expansion, potentially leading to a breakdown of the formalism. In this work we show that the finite-volume perturbation theory for the hexagon is positive and thereby compatible with the weak-coupling expansion for arbitrary $n$-point functions.

Colour-dressed hexagon tessellations for correlation functions and non-planar corrections

We continue the study of four-point correlation functions by the hexagon tessellation approach initiated in 1611.05436 and 1611.05577. We consider planar tree-level correlation functions in $\mathcal{N} = 4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory involving two non-protected operators. We find that, in order to reproduce the field theory result, it is necessary to include $SU(N)$ colour factors in the hexagon formalism; moreover, we find that the hexagon approach as it stands is naturally tailored to the single-trace part of correlation functions, and does not account for multi-trace admixtures. We discuss how to compute correlators involving double-trace operators, as well as more general $1/N$ effects; in particular we compute the whole next-to-leading order in the large-$N$ expansion of tree-level BMN two-point functions by tessellating a torus with punctures. Finally, we turn to the issue of "wrapping", Lüscher-like corrections. We show that $SU(N)$ colour-dressing reproduces an earlier empirical rule for incorporating single-magnon wrapping, and we provide a direct interpretation of such wrapping processes in terms of $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetric Feynman diagrams.

The Correlahedron

We introduce a new geometric object, the correlahedron, which we conjecture to be equivalent to stress-energy correlators in planar N=4 super Yang-Mills. Re-expressing the Grassmann dependence of correlation functions of n chiral stress-energy multiplets with Grassmann degree 4k in terms of 4(n+k)-linear bosonic variables, the resulting expressions have an interpretation as volume forms on a Gr(n+k,4+n+k) Grassmannian, analogous to the expressions for planar amplitudes via the amplituhedron. The resulting volume forms are to be naturally associated with the correlahedron geometry. We construct such expressions in this bosonised space both directly, in general, from Feynman diagrams in twistor space, and then more invariantly from specific known correlator expressions in analytic superspace. We give a geometric interpretation of the action of the consecutive lightlike limit and show that under this the correlahedron reduces to the squared amplituhedron both as a geometric object as well as directly on the corresponding volume forms. We give an explicit easily implementable algorithm via cylindrical decompositions for extracting the squared amplituhedron volume form from the squared amplituhedron geometry with explicit examples and discuss the analogous procedure for the correlators.

Tessellating cushions: four-point functions in N=4 SYM

We consider a class of planar tree-level four-point functions in N=4 SYM in a special kinematic regime: one BMN operator with two scalar excitations and three half-BPS operators are put onto a line in configuration space; additionally, for the half-BPS operators a co-moving frame is chosen in flavour space. In configuration space, the four-punctured sphere is naturally triangulated by tree-level planar diagrams. We demonstrate on a number of examples that each tile can be associated with a modified hexagon form-factor in such a way as to efficiently reproduce the tree-level four-point function. Our tessellation is not of the OPE type, fostering the hope of finding an independent, integrability-based approach to the computation of planar four-point functions.

Half-BPS half-BPS twist two at four loops in N=4 SYM

We consider a double OPE limit of the planar four-point function of stress tensor multiplets in N = 4 SYM theory. Loop integrands for this correlator have been constructed to very high order, but the corresponding integrals are explicitly known only up to three loops. Fortunately, the double coincidence limit of the four-loop integrals can be found by the method of expansion by regions, which reduces the problem of computing the four-point integrals to the evaluation of a large set of massless propagator integrals. These can in turn be evaluated by IBP reduction. The OPE limit of the stress tensor four-point function allows us to extract the (square of the) three-point couplings between two stress tensor multiplets and one twist two operator in the 20' of SU(4). The latest available IBP software accomplishes this task up to and including spin 8. With the data obtained we hope to further the development of the recent integrable systems picture for correlation functions.

Evaluating four-loop conformal Feynman integrals by D-dimensional differential equations

We evaluate a four-loop conformal integral, i.e. an integral over four four-dimensional coordinates, by turning to its dimensionally regularized version and applying differential equations for the set of the corresponding 213 master integrals. To solve these linear differential equations we follow the strategy suggested by Henn and switch to a uniformly transcendental basis of master integrals. We find a solution to these equations up to weight eight in terms of multiple polylogarithms. Further, we present an analytical result for the given four-loop conformal integral considered in four-dimensional space-time in terms of single-valued harmonic polylogarithms. As a by-product, we obtain analytical results for all the other 212 master integrals within dimensional regularization, i.e. considered in D dimensions.

Three-point functions in ${\cal N}=4$ SYM: the hexagon proposal at three loops

Basso, Komatsu and Vieira recently proposed an all-loop framework for the computation of three-point functions of single-trace operators of ${\cal N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills, the "hexagon program". This proposal results in several remarkable predictions, including the three-point function of two protected operators with an unprotected one in the $SU(2)$ and $SL(2)$ sectors. Such predictions consist of an "asymptotic" part---similar in spirit to the asymptotic Bethe Ansatz of Beisert and Staudacher for two-point functions---as well as additional finite-size "wrapping" Lüscher-like corrections. The focus of this paper is on such wrapping corrections, which we compute at three-loops in the $SL(2)$ sector. The resulting structure constants perfectly match the ones obtained in the literature from four-point correlators of protected operators.

Bootstrapping correlation functions in N=4 SYM

We describe a new approach to computing the chiral part of correlation functions of stress-tensor supermultiplets in N=4 SYM that relies on symmetries, analytic properties and the structure of the OPE only. We demonstrate that the correlation functions are given by a linear combination of chiral N=4 superconformal invariants accompanied by coefficient functions depending on the space-time coordinates only. We present the explicit construction of these invariants and show that the six-point correlation function is fixed in the Born approximation up to four constant coefficients by its symmetries. In addition, the known asymptotic structure of the correlation function in the light-like limit fixes unambiguously these coefficients up to an overall normalization. We demonstrate that the same approach can be applied to obtain a representation for the six-point NMHV amplitude that is free from any auxiliary gauge fixing parameters, does not involve spurious poles and manifests half of the dual superconformal symmetry.
