Degrees of entanglement for multipartite systems

We propose a unified mathematical scheme, based on a classical tensor isomorphism, for characterizing entanglement that works for pure states of multipartite systems of any number of particles. The degree of entanglement is indicated by a set of absolute values of the determinants for each subspace of the multipartite systems. Unlike other schemes, our scheme provides indication of the degrees of entanglement when the qubits are measured or lost successively, and leads naturally to the necessary and sufficient conditions for multipartite pure states to be separable. For systems with a large number of particles, a rougher indication of the degree of entanglement is provided by the set of mean values of the determinantal values for each subspace of the multipartite systems.

Condition for tripartite entanglement

We propose a scheme for classifying the entanglement of a tripartite pure qubit state. This classification scheme consists of an ordered list of seven elements. These elements are the Cayley hyper-determinant, and its six associated $2 \times 2$ subdeterminants. In particular we show that this classification provides a necessary and sufficient condition for separability.

Dirac(-Pauli), Fokker-Planck equations and exceptional Laguerre polynomials

An interesting discovery in the last two years in the field of mathematical physics has been the exceptional $X_\ell$ Laguerre and Jacobi polynomials. Unlike the well-known classical orthogonal polynomials which start with constant terms, these new polynomials have lowest degree $\ell=1,2,...$, and yet they form complete set with respect to some positive-definite measure. While the mathematical properties of these new $X_\ell$ polynomials deserve further analysis, it is also of interest to see if they play any role in physical systems. In this paper we indicate some physical models in which these new polynomials appear as the main part of the eigenfunctions. The systems we consider include the Dirac equations coupled minimally and non-minimally with some external fields, and the Fokker-Planck equations. The systems presented here have enlarged the number of exactly solvable physical systems known so far.

Prepotential approach to solvable rational potentials and exceptional orthogonal polynomials

We show how all the quantal systems related to the exceptional Laguerre and Jacobi polynomials can be constructed in a direct and systematic way, without the need of shape invariance and Darboux-Crum transformation. Furthermore, the prepotential need not be assumed a priori. The prepotential, the deforming function, the potential, the eigenfunctions and eigenvalues are all derived within the same framework. The exceptional polynomials are expressible as a bilinear combination of a deformation function and its derivative.

Links and Quantum Entanglement

We discuss the analogy between topological entanglement and quantum entanglement, particularly for tripartite quantum systems. We illustrate our approach by first discussing two clearly (topologically) inequivalent systems of three-ring links: The Borromean rings, in which the removal of any one link leaves the remaining two non-linked (or, by analogy, non-entangled); and an inequivalent system (which we call the NUS link) for which the removal of any one link leaves the remaining two linked (or, entangled in our analogy). We introduce unitary representations for the appropriate Braid Group ($B_3$) which produce the related quantum entangled systems. We finally remark that these two quantum systems, which clearly possess inequivalent entanglement properties, are locally unitarily equivalent.

Zeros of the exceptional Laguerre and Jacobi polynomials

An interesting discovery in the last two years in the field of mathematical physics has been the exceptional $X_\ell$ Laguerre and Jacobi polynomials. Unlike the well-known classical orthogonal polynomials which start with constant terms, these new polynomials have the lowest degree $\ell=1,2,...$, and yet they form complete sets with respect to some positive-definite measure. In this paper, we study one important aspect of these new polynomials, namely, the behaviors of their zeros as some parameters of the Hamiltonians change.

Quantum entanglement, unitary braid representation and Temperley-Lieb algebra

Important developments in fault-tolerant quantum computation using the braiding of anyons have placed the theory of braid groups at the very foundation of topological quantum computing. Furthermore, the realization by Kauffman and Lomonaco that a specific braiding operator from the solution of the Yang-Baxter equation, namely the Bell matrix, is universal implies that in principle all quantum gates can be constructed from braiding operators together with single qubit gates. In this paper we present a new class of braiding operators from the Temperley-Lieb algebra that generalizes the Bell matrix to multi-qubit systems, thus unifying the Hadamard and Bell matrices within the same framework. Unlike previous braiding operators, these new operators generate {\it directly}, from separable basis states, important entangled states such as the generalized Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states, cluster-like states, and other states with varying degrees of entanglement.

Two-dimensional gases of generalized statistics in a uniform magnetic field

We study the low temperature properties of two-dimensional ideal gases of generalized statistics in a uniform magnetic field. The generalized statistics considered here are the parafermion statistics and the exclusion statistics. Similarity in the behaviours of the parafermion gas of finite order $p$ and the gas with exclusion coefficient $g=1/p$ at very low temperatures is noted. These two systems become exactly equivalent at $T=0$. Qumtum Hall effect with these particles as charge carriers is briefly discussed.

Multiple Chern-Simons Fields on a Torus

Intertwined multiple Chern-Simons gauge fields induce matrix statistics among particles. We analyse this theory on a torus, focusing on the vacuum structure and the Hilbert space. The theory can be mimicked, although not completely, by an effective theory with one Chern-Simons gauge field. The correspondence between the Wilson line integrals, vacuum degeneracy and wave functions for these two theories are discussed. Further, it is obtained in both of these cases that the two total momenta and Hamiltonian commute only in the physical Hilbert space.
