A Generalized Stueckelberg-Higgs gauge theories

The aim of this work is to discuss and explore some generalized aspects of generation of photon mass respecting gauge symmetry. We introduce generalized Stueckelberg and Higgs gauge theories and present the classical and quantum frameworks related to them. We construct the quantum theory by writing the transition amplitude in the Fadeev-Senjanovic formalism and put it in a covariant form by the Fadeev-Popov method. We also analyze the independence of the transition amplitude by gauge parameters via BRS-T symmetry. Even in the generalized context, the Stueckelberg structure influences the quantization process of the Higgs theory in the 't Hooft's fashion, in which an intimate relationship between the Stueckelberg compensating field and the Goldstone boson arises.

Higgs Mechanism and Debye Screening in the Generalized Electrodynamics

In this work we study the Higgs mechanism and the Debye shielding for the Bopp-Podolsky theory of electrodynamics. We find that not only the massless sector of the Podolsky theory acquires a mass in both these phenomena, but also that its massive sector has its mass changed. Furthermore, we find a mathematical analogy in the way these masses change between these two mechanisms. Besides exploring the behaviour of the screened potentials, we find a temperature for which the presence of the generalized gauge field may be experimentally detected.

The Gauged Thirring Model in Thermodynamic Equilibrium

We study the Gauged Thirring Model (also known as Kondo Model) in thermodynamic equilibrium using the Matsubara-Fradkin-Nakanishi formalism. In this formulation, both the temperature and the chemical potential are kept to be nonvanishing. Starting from the field equations, we write down the Dyson-Schwinger-Fradkin equations, the Ward-Fradkin-Takahashi identities, and expressions for the thermodynamical generating functional. We find the partition function of the theory and study some key features of its exact two-point Green Functions, including the Landau-Khalatnikov/Fradkin transformations and some limiting cases of interest as well. In particular, we show that we can recover results from both the Schwinger and the Thirring's models from the Kondo Model in thermodynamic equilibrium.

Multipole Expansion in Generalized Electrodynamics

In this article we study some classical aspects of Podolsky Electrodynamics in the static regime. We develop the multipole expansion for the theory in both the electrostatic and the magnetostatic cases. We also address the problem of consistently truncating the infinite series associated with the several kinds of multipoles, yielding approximations for the static Podolskian electromagnetic field to any degree of precision required. Moreover, we apply the general theory of multipole expansion to some specific physical problems. In those problems we identify the first terms of the series with the monopole, dipole and quadrupole terms in the generalized theory. We also propose a situation in which Podolsky theory can be experimentally tested.

The Matsubara-Fradkin Thermodynamical Quantization of Podolsky Electrodynamics

In this work we apply the Matsubara-Fradkin formalism and the Nakanishi's auxiliary field method to the quantization of the Podolsky electrodynamics in thermodynamic equilibrium. This approach allows us to write consistently the path integral representation for the partition function of gauge theories in a simple manner. Furthermore, we find the Dyson-Schwinger-Fradkin equations and the Ward-Fradkin-Takahashi identities for the Podolsky theory. We also write the most general form for the polarization tensor in thermodynamic equilibrium.
