Long-range waveguide-quantum electrodynamics with left-handed transmission lines

While engineering long-range light-matter interactions is the principal aim in waveguide-QED, ironically most of the building blocks rest on local short-range couplings, such as nearest-neighbor-coupled cavity arrays employed in canonical models. Here, we propose a waveguide-QED system with native long-range interactions, comprising a single emitter coupled to a left-handed transmission line (LHTL). Interestingly, the LHTL emulates a synthetic photonic lattice with a slow logarithmic decay of hopping amplitudes over a distance set entirely by the ratio of UV and IR cutoffs of line dispersion. Its intrinsic long-range nature manifests both in the properties of atom-photon bound and scattering states, which exhibit algebraic localization and accelerated photon propagation respectively. Using a method of 'running exponents', we develop a unified picture connecting waveguide dispersion to bound state and light front profiles obtained in the strong long-range hopping regime. These results motivate how transmission lines can enable multi-qubit information processing with tunable-range interactions.

Spectral response of a nonlinear Jaynes-Cummings model

The Jaynes-Cummings quantum optics model allows us to understand the dialogue between light and matter at its most fundamental level, which is crucial for advancements in quantum science and technology. Several generalizations of the model have long been proposed, emphasizing their dynamic behavior but paying less attention to their spectroscopy. Here, we obtain analytical expressions of the time-dependent spectral response of a nonlinear Jaynes-Cummings model based on deformed field operators. We show that the long-time response of the resulting nonlinear cavity field resembles the one experimentally obtained in the strong-dispersive regime of circuit quantum electrodynamics. The spectrum is intrinsically asymmetric with the nonlinear coupling, a signature of the impossibility of getting resonant conditions for finite field excitations.

Underlying SUSY in a generalized Jaynes-Cummings model

We propose a generalized Jaynes-Cummings model that includes but is not limited to an extensive collection of experimental and theoretical proposals from the literature. It covers nonlinear boson terms, nonlinear dispersive and multi-boson exchange interaction. Our model features an underlying Lie graded algebra symmetry reminiscent to supersymmetric quantum mechanics. This allows us to propose a diagonalization scheme and calculate its analytic time evolution. In consequence, we are able to construct closed forms for relevant observables and explore the dynamics of particular realizations of our model independent of their complexity. As an practical example, we show the evolution of the population inversion and the boson quadratures for an initial state consisting of the qubit in the ground state interacting with a coherent field for a selection of cases including the standard JC model with Stark shift, Kerr-like terms, intensity dependent coupling, multi-boson exchange and algebraic deformations.

A Lie algebraic approach to a nonstationary atom-cavity system

In this work we study the generation of photons inside an ideal cavity with resonantly oscillating boundaries in the presence of a two-level atom. We make use of Lie algebraic techniques to obtain an approximate time-evolution operator and evaluate not only the resonant and dispersive regimes but also explore different regions of parameters. We have found a very good agreement between our approximate results and those obtained by numerical means.

Microscopic approach to field dissipation in the Jaynes-Cummings model

We use the microscopic derivation of the Jaynes-Cummings model master equation under field losses to study the dynamics of initial field states beyond the single-excitation manifold. We show that field-qubit detuning, as well as finite temperature, modify the effective decay rate in the model using entropy measures, like qubit-field purity and von Neumann entropy of the field, for initial Fock states. For initial semi-classical states of the field, we show that the microscopic approach, in phase space, provides an evolution to thermal equilibrium that is smoother than the one provided by the standard phenomenological approach.
