Magnetoresistive Effects in Ferromagnet-Superconductor Multilayers

We consider a nanoscale system consisting of Manganite-ferromagnet and Cuprate-superconductor multilayers in a spin valve configuration. The magnetization of the bottom Manganite-ferromagnet is pinned by a Manganite-antiferromagnet. The magnetization of the top Manganite-ferromagnet is coupled to the bottom one via indirect exchange through the superconducting layers. We study the behavior of the critical temperature and the magnetoresistance as a function of an externally applied parallel magnetic field, when the number of Cuprate-superconductor layers are changed. There are two typical behaviors in the case of a few monolayers of the Cuprates: a) For small magnetic fields, the critical temperature and the magnetoresistance change abruptly when the flipping field of the top Manganite-ferromagnet is reached. b) For large magnetic fields, the multilayered system re-enters the zero-resistance (superconducting) state after having become resistive (normal).

BCS to BEC Quantum Phase Transition in Spin Polarized Fermionic Gases

We discuss the possibility of a quantum phase transition in ultracold spin polarized fermionic gases which exhibit a p-wave Feshbach resonace. We show that when fermionic atoms form a condensate that can be externally tuned between the BCS and BEC limits, the zero temperature compressibility and the spin susceptibility of the fermionic gas are non-analytic functions of the two-body bound state energy. This non-analyticity is due to a massive rearrangement of the momentum distribution in the ground state of the system. Furthermore, we show that the low temperature superfluid density is also non-analytic, and exibits a dramatic change in behavior when the critical value of the bound state energy is crossed.

Josephson Effect Between Triplet Superconductors: A Self-Test for the Order Parameter Symmetry of Bechgaard Salts

We show that the Josephson effect between triplet superconductors is sensitive to the relative orientation of the d-vectors across the junction. In addition, we point out that the temperature and angular dependence of the Josephson effect can help distinguish between different order parameter symmetries. We discuss coherent and incoherent tunneling processes, and the role of surface bound states within the framework of non-local lattice Bogoliubov-deGennes equations.

F-wave versus P-wave Superconductivity in Organic Conductors

Current experimental results suggest that some organic quasi-one-dimensional superconductors exhibit triplet pairing symmetry. Thus, we discuss several potential triplet order parameters for the superconducting state of these systems within the functional integral formulation. We compare weak spin-orbit coupling $f_{xyz}$, $p_x$, $p_y$ and $p_z$ symmetries via several thermodynamic quantities. For each symmetry, we analyse the temperature dependences of the order parameter, condensation energy, specific heat, and superfluid density tensor.

Order parameter of quasi-one-dimensional superconductors: symmetry features in quasiparticle density of states and spin susceptibility

Recent experiments indicate that the Bechgaard salts (TMTSF)$_2$ ClO$_4$ and (TMTSF)$_2$ PF$_6$ may be unconventional triplet superconductors. The quasiparticle density of states and the uniform spin susceptibility tensor are computed at low temperatures for order parameter symmetries, as an attempt to narrow the number of possibilities based on experimental evidence.
