$Ξ_c(2790)^{+/0}$ and $Ξ_c(2815)^{+/0}$ radiative decays

In this work, we study the $Ξ_c$ baryon electromagnetic decay widths within the constituent quark model formalism through an analysis of the transitions from $P-$wave states to ground states. We use the non-relativistic limit of the Hamiltonian of the electromagnetic interaction on keeping all the terms up to the order $m_j^{-1}$. We calculate the electromagnetic decay widths analytically, for the first time, without any further approximation. Specifically, our theoretical results for the $Ξ_c(2790)^{+/0}$ and $Ξ_c(2815)^{+/0}$ radiative decay widths, without the introduction of any additional parameters, display a significant agreement with the recent experimental values obtained by the Belle experiment. The agreement is due to the fact that we have not introduced further approximation to simplify the calculation of the difficult convective term, unlike what was done in previous studies. Our predictions may be useful for future experiments at the Belle, BABAR, and LHC experiments.

Neutrino predictions from a left-right symmetric flavored extension of the standard model

We propose a left-right symmetric electroweak extension of the Standard Model based on the $Δ\left( 27\right)$ family symmetry. The masses of all electrically charged Standard Model fermions lighter than the top quark are induced by a Universal Seesaw mechanism mediated by exotic fermions. The top quark is the only Standard Model fermion to get mass directly from a tree level renormalizable Yukawa interaction, while neutrinos are unique in that they get calculable radiative masses through a low-scale seesaw mechanism. The scheme has generalized $μ-τ$ symmetry and leads to a restricted range of neutrino oscillations parameters, with a nonzero neutrinoless double beta decay amplitude lying at the upper ranges generically associated to normal and inverted neutrino mass ordering.

A Model of Comprehensive Unification

Comprehensive - that is, gauge and family - unification using spinors has many attractive features, but it has been challenged to explain chirality. Here, by combining an orbifold construction with more traditional ideas, we address that difficulty. Our candidate model features three chiral families and leads to an acceptable result for quantitative unification of couplings. A potential target for accelerator and astronomical searches emerges.

The Dark Side of Flipped Trinification

We propose a model which unifies the Left-Right symmetry with the $SU(3)_L$ gauge group, called flipped trinification, and based on the $SU(3)_C\otimes SU(3)_L\otimes SU(3)_R\otimes U(1)_X$ gauge group. The model inherits the interesting features of both symmetries while elegantly explaining the origin of the matter parity, $W_P=(-1)^{3(B-L)+2s}$, and dark matter stability. We develop the details of the spontaneous symmetry breaking mechanism in the model, determining the relevant mass eigenstates, and showing how neutrino masses are easily generated via the seesaw mechanism. Viable dark matter candidates can either be a fermion, a scalar or a vector, leading to potentially different dark matter phenomenology.

Predictive Pati-Salam theory of fermion masses and mixing

We propose a Pati-Salam extension of the standard model incorporating a flavor symmetry based on the $Δ\left( 27\right)$ group. The theory realizes a realistic Froggatt-Nielsen picture of quark mixing and a predictive pattern of neutrino oscillations. We find that, for normal neutrino mass ordering, the atmospheric angle must lie in the higher octant, CP must be violated in oscillations, and there is a lower bound for the $0νββ$ decay rate. For the case of inverted mass ordering, we find that the lower atmospheric octant is preferred, and that CP can be conserved in oscillations. Neutrino masses arise from a low-scale seesaw mechanism, whose messengers can be produced by a $Z^{\prime }$ portal at the LHC.

Three-family left-right symmetry with low-scale seesaw mechanism

We suggest a new left-right symmetric model implementing a low-scale seesaw mechanism in which quantum consistency requires three families of fermions. The symmetry breaking route to the Standard Model determines the profile of the "next" expected new physics, characterized either by the simplest left-right gauge symmetry or by the 3-3-1 scenario. The resulting $Z^\prime$ gauge bosons can be probed at the LHC and provide a production portal for the right-handed neutrinos. On the other hand, its flavor changing interactions would affect the K, D and B neutral meson systems.

Towards gauge coupling unification in left-right symmetric $\mathrm{SU(3)_c \times SU(3)_L \times SU(3)_R \times U(1)_{X}}$ theories

We consider the possibility of gauge coupling unification within the simplest realizations of the $\mathrm{SU(3)_c \times SU(3)_L \times SU(3)_R \times U(1)_{X}}$ gauge theory. We present a first exploration of the renormalization group equations governing the "bottom-up" evolution of the gauge couplings in a generic model with free normalization for the generators. Interestingly, we find that for a $\mathrm{SU(3)_c \times SU(3)_L \times SU(3)_R \times U(1)_{X}}$ symmetry breaking scale $M_X$ as low as a few TeV one can achieve unification in the presence of leptonic octets. We briefly comment on possible grand unified theory frameworks which can embed the $\mathrm{SU(3)_c \times SU(3)_L \times SU(3)_R \times U(1)_{X}}$ model as well as possible implications, such as lepton flavour violating physics at the LHC.

Unifying left-right symmetry and 331 electroweak theories

We propose a realistic theory based on the $\mathrm{SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes SU(3)_R \otimes U(1)_{X}}$ gauge group which requires the number of families to match the number of colors. In the simplest realization neutrino masses arise from the canonical seesaw mechanism and their smallness correlates with the observed V-A nature of the weak force. Depending on the symmetry breaking path to the Standard Model one recovers either a left-right symmetric theory or one based on the $\mathrm{SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)}$ symmetry as the "next" step towards new physics.

String completion of an $\mathrm{SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X}$ electroweak model

The extended electroweak $\mathrm{SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X}$ symmetry framework "explaining" the number of fermion families is revisited. While $331$-based schemes can not easily be unified within the conventional field theory sense, we show how to do it within an approach based on D-branes and (un)oriented open strings, on Calabi-Yau singularities. We show how the theory can be UV-completed in a quiver setup, free of gauge and string anomalies. Lepton and baryon numbers are perturbatively conserved, so neutrinos are Dirac-type, and their lightness results from a novel TeV scale seesaw mechanism. Dynamical violation of baryon number by exotic instantons could induce neutron-antineutron oscillations, with proton decay and other dangerous R-parity violating processes strictly forbidden.

Realistic $\mathrm{SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X}$ model with a type II Dirac neutrino seesaw mechanism

Here we propose a realistic $\mathrm{SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X}$ electroweak gauge model with enlarged Higgs sector. The scheme allows for the natural implementation of a type II seesaw mechanism for Dirac neutrinos, while charged lepton and quark masses are reproduced in a natural way thanks to the presence of new scalars. The new $\mathrm{SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X}$ energy scale characterizing neutrino mass generation could be accessible to the current LHC experiments.

Lagrangians for Massive Dirac Chiral Superfields

A variant for the superspin one-half massive superparticle in $ 4D $, $ \mathcal{N}=1 $, based on Dirac superfields, is offered. As opposed to the current known models that use spinor chiral superfields, the propagating fields of the supermultiplet are those of the lowest mass dimensions possible: scalar, Dirac and vector fields. Besides the supersymmetric chiral condition, the Dirac superfields are not further constrained, allowing a very straightforward implementation of the path-integral method. The corresponding superpropagators are presented. In addition, an interaction super Yukawa potential, formed by Dirac and scalar chiral superfields, is given in terms of their component fields. The model is first presented for the case of two superspin one-half superparticles related by the charged conjugation operator, but in order to treat the case of neutral superparticles, the Majorana condition on the Dirac superfields is also studied. We compare our proposal with the known models of spinor superfields for the one-half superparticle and show that it is equivalent to them.

Dynamical seesaw mechanism for Dirac neutrinos

So far we have not been able to establish that, as theoretically expected, neutrinos are their own anti-particles. Here we propose a dynamical way to account for the Dirac nature of neutrinos and the smallness of their mass in terms of a new variant of the seesaw paradigm in which the energy scale of neutrino mass generation could be accessible to the current LHC experiments.

Warped flavor symmetry predictions for neutrino physics

A realistic five-dimensional warped scenario with all standard model fields propagating in the bulk is proposed. Mass hierarchies would in principle be accounted for by judicious choices of the bulk mass parameters, while fermion mixing angles are restricted by a $Δ(27)$ flavor symmetry broken on the branes by flavon fields. The latter gives stringent predictions for the neutrino mixing parameters, and the Dirac CP violation phase, all described in terms of only two independent parameters at leading order. The scheme also gives an adequate CKM fit and should be testable within upcoming oscillation experiments.

Dynamical Symmetry Breaking With a Fourth Generation

Adding a fourth generation to the Standard Model and assuming it to be valid up to some cutoff Λ, we show that electroweak symmetry is broken by radiative corrections due to the fourth generation. The effects of the fourth generation are isolated using a Lagrangian with a genuine scalar without self-interactions at the classical level. For masses of the fourth generation consistent with electroweak precision data (including the B \rightarrow K π CP asymmetries) we obtain a Higgs mass of the order of a few hundreds GeV and a cutoff Λ around 1-2 TeV. We study the reliability of the perturbative treatment used to obtain these results taking into account the running of the Yukawa couplings of the fourth quark generation with the aid of the Renormalization Group (RG) equations, finding similar allowed values for the Higgs mass but a slightly lower cut-off due to the breaking of the perturbative regime. Such low cut-off means that the effects of new physics needed to describe electroweak interactions at energy above Λ should be measurable at the LHC. We use the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model with four generations as an explicit example of models realizing the dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking by radiative corrections and containing new physics. Here, the cutoff is replaced by the masses of the squarks and electroweak symmetry breaking by radiative corrections requires the squark masses to be of the order of 1 TeV.

Z'-> ggg decay in left-right symmetric models with three and four fermion families

We study the Z'-> ggg decay in the context of a left-right symmetric gauge theory. We obtain a branching ratio BR(Z'-> ggg)=Γ(Z'->ggg)/ Γ(Z'-> q\bar{q})= (1.2-2.8) x 10^{-5} for m_{Z'}=(700-1500) GeV. We also study the contribution of a fourth fermion family. We find an enhancement in the branching ratio for Z' masses close to the \bar{b'}b' threshold and a dip for Z' masses close to the \bar{t'}t' threshold. Using the values of the fourth generation quark masses allowed by electroweak precision data we obtain a branching ratio BR(Z'-> ggg)= (1-6)x 10^{-5} for m_{Z'}=(700-1500) GeV.

Is there an isovector companion of the X(2175)?

In this letter we study the reaction e^{+}e^{-}\toϕπ^0 ηwith the π^{0}ηsystem in an isoscalar s-wave configuration. We use a formalism recently developed for the study of e^{+}e^{-}\toϕππand e^{+}e^{-}\toϕK^{+}K^{-}. The obtained cross section is within the reach of present e^{+}e^{-} machines. Measuring this channel would test the absence of an isovector companion of the X(2175) as predicted by the three body approach to this resonance.

Photo- and Electron-Production of Mesons on Nucleons and Nuclei

In these lectures I will show some results obtained with the chiral unitary approach applied to the photo and electroproduction of mesons. The results for photoproduction of $ηπ^0 p$ and $K^0 π^0 Σ^+$, together with related reactions will be shown, having with common denominator the excitation of the $Δ(1700)$ resonance which is one of those dynamically generated in the chiral unitary approach. Then I will show results obtained for the $e^+ e^- \to ϕf_0(980)$ reaction which reproduce the bulk of the data except for a pronounced peak, giving support to a new mesonic resonance, X(2175). Results will also be shown for the electromagnetic form factors of the $N^*(1535)$ resonance, also dynamically generated in this approach. Finally, I will show some results on the photoproduction of the $ω$ in nuclei, showing that present experimental results claiming a shift of the $ω$ mass in the medium are tied to a particular choice of background and are not conclusive. One the other hand, the same experimental results show unambiguously a huge increase of the $ω$ width in the nuclear medium.

Electron-positron annihilation into phi f_{0}(980) and clues for a new 1^{--} resonance

We study the e^{+}e^{-} to phi pi pi reaction for pions in an isoscalar s-wave which is dominated by loop mechanisms. For kaon loops we start from the conventional RCHPT, but use the unitarized amplitude for KbarK-pipi scattering and the full kaon form factor instead of the lowest order terms. We study also effects of vector mesons using RCHPT supplemented with the conventional anomalous term for VVP interactions and taking into account the effects of heavy vector mesons in the K*K transition form factor. We find a peak in the dipion invariant mass around the f_{0}(980) as in the experiment. Selecting the phi f_{0}(980) contribution as a function of the e^{+}e^{-} energy we also reproduce the experimental data except for a narrow peak, yielding support to the existence of a 1^{--} resonance above the phi f_{0}(980) threshold, coupling strongly to this state.
