In this work we show that we can generate neutrino masses through the type-II see-saw mechanism working at TeV scale in the context of a 331 model.
We discuss inflation in models with large extra dimensions, driven by a bulk scalar field. The brane inflaton is then a single effective field, obtained from the bulk scalar field by scaling. The self interaction terms of the effective brane inflaton are then naturally suppressed. The picture is consistent with a fundamental string scale in the TeV range without the problem of a superlight inflaton. If hybrid inflation is considered, the right prediction for the density perturbations as observed by COBE can be obtained without any fine tunning. The bulk inflaton then decays preferentially into brane Higgses and reheating follows.
A new economical model for neutrino masses is proposed in the context of brane bulk scenarios for particle physics, where global B-L symmetry of the standard model is broken spontaneously by a gauge singlet Higgs field in the bulk. This leads to a bulk majoron whose KK excitations may make it visible if neutrinoless double beta decay if the string scale is close to a TeV. It also leads to neutron-anti-neutron oscillation process with transition times which can be in the range accessible to proposed experiments.
We study the cosmology of models with four space and one time dimension where our universe is a 3-brane and report a few results which extend existing work in several directions. Assuming a stable fifth dimension, we obtain a solution for the metric, which does not depend on any arbitrary parameters. We discuss some implications of this result.
We present a gauge model for the bimaximal mixing pattern among the neutrinos that explains both the atmospheric and solar neutrino data via large angle vacuum oscillation among the three known neutrinos. The model does not include righthanded neutrinos but additional Higgs triplets which acquire naturally small vev's due to the type II seesaw mechanism. A combination of global $L_e-L_μ-L_τ$ and $S_3$ symmetries constrain the mass matrix for both charged leptons and neutrinos in such a way that the bimaximal pattern emerges naturally at the tree level and needed splittings among neutrinos at the one loop level. This model predicts observable branching ratios for $τ\to μμμ$, which could be used to test it.
In a 331 model in which the lepton masses arise from a scalar sextet it is possible to break spontaneously a global symmetry implying in a pseudoscalar majoron-like Goldstone boson. This majoron does not mix with any other scalar fields and for this reason it does not couple, at the tree level, neither to the charged leptons nor to the quarks. Moreover, its interaction with neutrinos is diagonal. We also argue that there is a set of the parameters in which that the model can be consistent with the invisible Z^0-width and that heavy neutrinos can decay sufficiently rapid by majoron emission having a lifetime shorter than the age of the universe.
We point out that if the majoron-like scheme is implemented within a 331 model, there must exist at least three different mass scales for the scalar vacuum expectation values in the model.
We show that the Higgs resonance can be amplified in a 3-3-1 model with a multi-Higgs "leptophilic" scalar sector. This would allow the observation of the Higgs particle in muon colliders even for Higgs masses considerably higher than the ones expected to be seen in the electroweak standard model framework.
