Dual linearized gravity in D=6 coupled to a purely spin-two field of mixed symmetry (2,2)

Under the hypotheses of analyticity, locality, Lorentz covariance, and Poincare invariance of the deformations, combined with the requirement that the interaction vertices contain at most two spatiotemporal derivatives of the fields, we investigate the consistent interactions between a single massless tensor field with the mixed symmetry (3,1) and one massless tensor field with the mixed symmetry (2,2). The computations are done with the help of the deformation theory based on a cohomological approach, in the context of the antifield-BRST formalism. Our result is that dual linearized gravity in D=6 gets coupled to a purely spin-two field with the mixed symmetry of the Riemann tensor such that both the gauge transformations and first-order reducibility relations in the (3,1) sector are changed, but not the gauge algebra.

Yes-go cross-couplings in collections of tensor fields with mixed symmetries of the type (3,1) and (2,2)

Under the hypotheses of analyticity, locality, Lorentz covariance, and Poincare invariance of the deformations, combined with the requirement that the interaction vertices contain at most two space-time derivatives of the fields, we investigate the consistent cross-couplings between two collections of tensor fields with the mixed symmetries of the type (3,1) and (2,2). The computations are done with the help of the deformation theory based on a cohomological approach in the context of the antifield-BRST formalism. Our results can be synthesized in: 1. there appear consistent cross-couplings between the two types of field collections at order one and two in the coupling constant such that some of the gauge generators and of the reducibility functions are deformed, and 2. the existence or not of cross-couplings among different fields with the mixed symmetry of the Riemann tensor depends on the indefinite or respectively positive-definite behaviour of the quadratic form defined by the kinetic terms from the free Lagrangian.

Selfinteractions in collections of massless tensor fields with the mixed symmetry (3,1) and (2,2)

Under the hypotheses of analyticity, locality, Lorentz covariance, and Poincare invariance of the deformations, combined with the requirement that the interaction vertices contain at most two spatiotemporal derivatives of the fields, we investigate the consistent selfinteractions that can be added to a collection of massless tensor fields with the mixed symmetry (3,1) and respectively (2,2). The computations are done with the help of the deformation theory based on a cohomological approach, in the context of the antifield-BRST formalism. Our result is that no selfinteractions that deform the original gauge transformations emerge. In the case of the collection of (2,2) tensor fields it is possible to add a sum of cosmological terms to the free Lagrangian.

Consistent interactions of dual linearized gravity in D=5: couplings with a topological BF model

Under some plausible assumptions, we find that the dual formulation of linearized gravity in D=5 can be nontrivially coupled to the topological BF model in such a way that the interacting theory exhibits a deformed gauge algebra and some deformed, on-shell reducibility relations. Moreover, the tensor field with the mixed symmetry (2,1) gains some shift gauge transformations with parameters from the BF sector.

Reducible second-class constraints of order L: An irreducible approach

An irreducible canonical approach to second-class constraints reducible of an arbitrary order is given. This method generalizes our previous results from [Europhys. Lett. 50 (2000) 169, J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 40 (2007) 14537] for first- and respectively second-order reducible second-class constraints. The general procedure is illustrated on Abelian gauge-fixed p-forms.

No cross-interactions among different tensor fields with the mixed symmetry (3,1) intermediated by a vector field

Under the hypotheses of analyticity in the coupling constant, locality, Lorentz covariance, and Poincare invariance of the deformations, combined with the preservation of the number of derivatives on each field, the consistent interactions between a collection of free massless tensor gauge fields with the mixed symmetry of a two-column Young diagram of the type (3,1) and one Abelian vector field, respectively a $p$-form gauge field, are addressed. The main result is that a single mixed symmetry tensor field from the collection gets coupled to the vector field/$p$-form. Our final result resembles to the well known fact from General Relativity according to which there is one graviton in a given world.

Interactions for a collection of spin-two fields intermediated by a massless p-form

Under the general hypotheses of locality, smoothness of interactions in the coupling constant, Poincare invariance, Lorentz covariance, and preservation of the number of derivatives on each field, we investigate the cross-couplings of one or several spin-two fields to a massless p-form. Two complementary cases arise. The first case is related to the standard interactions from General Relativity, but the second case describes a new, special type of couplings in D=p+2 spacetime dimensions, which break the PT-invariance. Nevertheless, no consistent, indirect cross-interactions among different gravitons with a positively defined metric in internal space can be constructed.

No interactions for a collection of Weyl gravitons intermediated by a scalar field

The cross-couplings among several Weyl gravitons (described in the free limit by a sum of linearized Weyl actions) in the presence of a scalar field are studied with the help of the deformation theory based on local BRST cohomology. Under the hypotheses of locality, smoothness of the interactions in the coupling constant, Poincare invariance, (background) Lorentz invariance, and the preservation of the number of derivatives on each field, together with the supplementary assumption that the internal metric defined by the sum of Weyl lagrangians is positively defined, we prove that there are no consistent cross-interactions among different Weyl gravitons in the presence of a scalar field. The couplings of a single Weyl graviton to a scalar field are also discussed.

Interactions between a massless tensor field with the mixed symmetry of the Riemann tensor and a massless vector field

Consistent couplings between a massless tensor field with the mixed symmetry of the Riemann tensor and a massless vector field are analyzed in the framework of Lagrangian BRST cohomology. Under the assumptions on smoothness, locality, Lorentz covariance, and Poincare invariance of the deformations, combined with the requirement that the interacting Lagrangian is at most second-order derivative, it is proved that there are no consistent cross-interactions between a single massless tensor field with the mixed symmetry of the Riemann tensor and one massless vector field.

Couplings between a single massless tensor field with the mixed symmetry (3,1) and one vector field

Under the hypotheses of smoothness in the coupling constant, locality, Lorentz covariance, and Poincare invariance of the deformations, combined with the preservation of the number of derivatives on each field, the consistent interactions between a single free massless tensor gauge field with the mixed symmetry of a two-column Young diagram of the type (3,1) and one Abelian vector field have been investigated. The computations are done with the help of the deformation theory based on a cohomological approach, in the context of the antifield-BRST formalism. The main result is that there exist nontrivial cross-couplings between these types of fields in five spatiotemporal dimensions, which break the PT invariance and allow for the deformation of the gauge transformations of the vector field, but not of the gauge algebra.

On the generalized Freedman-Townsend model

Consistent interactions that can be added to a free, Abelian gauge theory comprising a finite collection of BF models and a finite set of two-form gauge fields (with the Lagrangian action written in first-order form as a sum of Abelian Freedman-Townsend models) are constructed from the deformation of the solution to the master equation based on specific cohomological techniques. Under the hypotheses of smoothness in the coupling constant, locality, Lorentz covariance, and Poincare invariance of the interactions, supplemented with the requirement on the preservation of the number of derivatives on each field with respect to the free theory, we obtain that the deformation procedure modifies the Lagrangian action, the gauge transformations as well as the accompanying algebra. The interacting Lagrangian action contains a generalized version of non-Abelian Freedman-Townsend model. The consistency of interactions to all orders in the coupling constant unfolds certain equations, which are shown to have solutions.

No cross-interactions between the Weyl graviton and the massless Rarita-Schwinger field

The proof of the fact that there are no nontrivial, consistent cross-couplings that can be added between the Weyl graviton and the massless Rarita-Schwinger field is accomplished by means of a cohomological approach, based on the deformation of the solution to the master equation from the antifield-Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) formalism. The procedure developed here relies on the assumptions of locality, smoothness, (background) Lorentz invariance, Poincare invariance, and preservation of the number of derivatives with respect to each field (the last hypothesis was made only in antighost number zero).

No multi-graviton theories in the presence of a Dirac field

The cross-couplings among several massless spin-two fields (described in the free limit by a sum of Pauli-Fierz actions) in the presence of a Dirac field are investigated in the framework of the deformation theory based on local BRST cohomology. Under the hypotheses of locality, smoothness of the interactions in the coupling constant, Poincare invariance, (background) Lorentz invariance and the preservation of the number of derivatives on each field, we prove that there are no consistent cross-interactions among different gravitons in the presence of a Dirac field. The basic features of the couplings between a single Pauli-Fierz field and a Dirac field are also emphasized.

Couplings of a collection of BF models to matter theories

The couplings of a collection of BF models to matter theories are addressed in the framework of the antifield-BRST deformation procedure. The general theory is exemplified in the case where the matter fields are a set of Dirac spinors and respectively a collection of real scalar fields.
