Charged Black Holes with Yukawa Potential

This study derives a novel family of charged black hole solutions featuring short- and long-range modifications. These ones are achieved through a Yukawa-like gravitational potential modification and a nonsingular electric potential incorporation. The short-range corrections encode quantum gravity effects, while the long-range adjustments simulate gravitational effects akin to those attributed to dark matter. Our investigation reveals that the total mass of the black hole undergoes corrections owing to the apparent presence of dark matter mass and the self-adjusted electric charge mass. Two distinct solutions are discussed: a regular black hole solution characterizing small black holes, where quantum effects play a crucial role, and a second solution portraying large black holes at considerable distances, where the significance of Yukawa corrections comes into play. Notably, these long-range corrections contribute to an increase in the total mass and hold particular interest as they can emulate the role of dark matter. Finally, we explore the phenomenological aspects of the black hole. Specifically, we examine the influence of electric charge and Yukawa parameters on thermodynamic quantities, the quasinormal modes for the charged scalar perturbations as well as for the vector perturbations, analysis of the geodesics of light/massive particles, and the accretion of matter onto the charged black hole solution.

NRPyCritCol & SFcollapse1D: an open-source, user-friendly toolkit to study critical phenomena

We present a new open-source, user-friendly toolkit of two codes$-$SFcollapse1D and NRPyCritCol$-$to study critical phenomena in the context of gravitational collapse. SFcollapse1D is a C/C++ tool designed to solve the problem of gravitational collapse of massless, spherically symmetric scalar fields with the ADM formalism in spherical-like coordinates. NRPyCritColis a collection of Python modules that leverage the NRPy+ infrastructure to generate a highly optimized C-code for evolving massless scalar fields within a covariant BSSN formalism. The toolkit was developed with user-friendliness and code efficiency in mind, enabling the exploration of critical phenomena with consumer-grade computers. We present a study of critical phenomena from the collapse of massless scalar fields in spherical symmetry, using only these two codes and a laptop computer.

Holographic Phase Transitions in (2+1)-dimensional black hole spacetimes in NMG

In this work we aim at the question of holographic phase transitions in two dimensional systems with Lifshitz scaling. We consider the gravity side candidate for a dual description as the black hole solution of New Massive Gravity (NMG) with Lifshitz scaling. We discuss the effects due to the Lifshitz scaling in the AGGH (Ayon-Beato-Garbarz-Giribet-Hassaïıne) solution in comparison with the BTZ (Bañados-Teitelboim-Zanelli) black hole. Likewise, we compute the order parameter and it indicates a second order phase transition in a (1+1) dimension Lifshitz boundary.

Vectorial and spinorial perturbations in Galileon Black Holes: Quasinormal modes, quasiresonant modes and stability

In this work we have considered a model that includes the interaction of gravity and matter fields with Galilean invariance (the so-called derivative coupling) as well as some corresponding black hole type solutions. Quasinormal perturbations of two kinds of matter fields have been computed by different methods. The effect of the derivative coupling in the quasinormal spectrum has been analyzed and evaluated.

Stability of Reissner-Nordström black hole in de Sitter background under charged scalar perturbation

We find a new instability in the four-dimensional Reissner-Nordstrom-de Sitter black holes against charged scalar perturbations with vanishing angular momentum, $l=0$. We show that such an instability is caused by superradiance. The instability does not occur for an larger angular index, as explicitely proven for $l=1$. Our results are obtained from a numerical investigation of the time domain profiles of the perturbations.

The AdS/CFT relation, quasi-normal modes and applications

Here we present a fast review of some of developments and new results concerning applications of gravity in the context of the AdS/CFT correspondence, in brane world perturbations as well as in holographic superconductors. We also discuss the structure of the phase transitions in a more general set up defined by the quasi-normal oscillations in the bulk, which signalize a very complex structure of the phase transition at the border.

Quasinormal modes and thermodynamical aspects of the 3D Lifshitz black hole

We consider scalar and spinorial perturbations on a background described by a $z=3$ three-dimensional Lifshitz black hole. We obtained the corresponding quasinormal modes which perfectly agree with the analytical result for the quasinormal frequency in the scalar case. The numerical results for the spinorial perturbations reinforce our conclusion on the stability of the model under these perturbations. We also calculate the area spectrum, which prove to be equally spaced, as an application of our results.

The role of Dark Matter interaction in galaxy clusters

We consider a toy model to analyze the consequences of dark matter interaction with a dark energy background on the overall rotation of galaxy clusters and the misalignment between their dark matter and baryon distributions when compared to ΛCDM predictions. The interaction parameters are found via a genetic algorithm search. The results obtained suggest that interaction is a basic phenomenon whose effects are detectable even in simple models of galactic dynamics.

Stability Analysis and Area Spectrum of 3-Dimensional Lifshitz Black Holes

In this work, we probe the stability of a $z=3$ three-dimensional Lifshitz black hole by using scalar and spinorial perturbations. We found an analytical expression for the quasinormal frequencies of the scalar probe field, which perfectly agree with the behavior of the quasinormal modes obtained numerically. The results for the numerical analysis of the spinorial perturbations reinforce the conclusion of the scalar analysis, i.e., the model is stable under scalar and spinor perturbations. As an application we found the area spectrum of the Lifshitz black hole, which turns out to be equally spaced.

Instability of the Time Dependent Horava-Witten Model

We consider scalar perturbations in the time-dependent Hourava-Witten Model in order to probe its stability. We show that during the non-singular epoque the model evolves without instabilities until it encounters the curvature singularity where a big crunch is supposed to occur. We compute the frequencies of the scalar field oscillation during the stable period and show how the oscillations can be used to prove the presence of such a singularity.
