Design and Commissioning of the first two CYRC\'e Extension Beamlines

CYRC\'e is a TR24 cyclotron installed at the Institut Pluridisciplinaire Hubert Curien (IPHC) of Strasbourg operating at energies of 16-25 MeV and at intensities up to 400 $\mu$A. The accelerator is used to produce and provide radioelements for PET and for SPECT. In 2015, IPHC started to develop a platform with the aim of performing radiobiological experiments. The PRECy platform foresees to contain three-to-five experimental stations linked to beamlines expanded from the second exit port of the cyclotron. This extension allows devoting one of the beamlines for detector studies within the framework of the CMS project. The design, the development and the commissioning of the first two beamlines are discussed in this paper.

Li$_2$Sr[MnN]$_2$: a magnetically ordered, metallic nitride

Li$_2$Sr[MnN]$_2$ single crystals were successfully grown out of Li rich flux. The crystal structure was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction and revealed almost linear $-$N$-$Mn$-$N$-$Mn$-$ chains as central structural motif. Tetragonal columns of this air and moisture sensitive nitridomanganate were employed for electrical transport, heat capacity, and anisotropic magnetization measurements. Both the electronic and magnetic properties are most remarkable, in particular the linear increase of the magnetic susceptibility with temperature that is reminiscent of underdoped cuprate and Fe-based superconductors. Clear indications for antiferromagnetic ordering at $T_{\rm N} = 290$ K were obtained. Metallic transport behavior is experimentally observed in accordance with electronic band structure calculations.

The ORFEUS II Echelle Spectrometer: Instrument description, performance and data reduction

During the second flight of the ORFEUS-SPAS mission in November/December 1996, the Echelle spectrometer was used extensively by the Principal and Guest Investigator teams as one of the two focal plane instruments of the ORFEUS telescope. We present the in-flight performance and the principles of the data reduction for this instrument. The wavelength range is 90 nm to 140 nm, the spectral resolution is significantly better than lambda/(Delta lambda) = 10000, where Delta lambda is measured as FWHM of the instrumental profile. The effective area peaks at 1.3 cm^2 near 110 nm. The background is dominated by straylight from the Echelle grating and is about 15% in an extracted spectrum for spectra with a rather flat continuum. The internal accuracy of the wavelength calibration is better than +/- 0.005 nm.
