Global observables in statistical mechanics

We present a canonical construction of global observables -- sometimes referred to in the literature as macroscopic observables or observables at infinity -- in statistical mechanics, providing a unified treatment of both commutative and non-commutative cases. Unlike standard approaches, the framework is formulated directly in the $C^*$-algebraic setting, without relying on any specific representation.

Linear Systems and Eigenvectors in Constructive Mathematics

In this work we study two classical problems of (numerical) linear algebra: (i) solving linear systems and (ii) computing eigenvectors, within a constructive framework. Numerical accuracy and indeterminacy are naturally incorporated through Bishop-style constructive mathematics. Our contributions include new results on Gauss-Jordan elimination and on approximating the rank of a matrix. Additionally, we introduce a novel method for constructing approximate eigenvectors, based on a previously unexplored characterization of singular matrices.

Classical dynamics of infinite particle systems in an operator algebraic framework

We construct C*-dynamical systems for the dynamics of classical infinite particle systems describing harmonic oscillators interacting with arbitrarily many neighbors on lattices, as well on more general structures. Our approach allows particles with varying masses, varying frequencies, irregularly placed lattice sites and varying interactions subject to a simple summability constraint. A key role is played by the commutative resolvent algebra, which is a C*-algebra of bounded continuous functions on an infinite dimensional vector space, and in a strong sense the classical limit of the Buchholz--Grundling resolvent algebra, which suggests that quantum analogs of our results are likely to exist. For a general class of Hamiltonians, we show that the commutative resolvent algebra is time-stable, and admits a time-stable sub-algebra on which the dynamics is strongly continuous, therefore obtaining a C*-dynamical system.

Lieb-Robinson bounds in classical oscillating lattice systems

The aim of this paper is two-fold. First, we prove the existence of Lieb-Robinson bounds for classical particle systems describing harmonic oscillators interacting with arbitrarily many neighbors, both on lattices and on more general structures. Second, we prove the existence of a global dynamical system on the commutative resolvent algebra, a C*-algebra of bounded continuous functions on an infinite dimensional vector space, which serves as the classical analog of the Buchholz--Grundling resolvent algebra.

Quantum spin systems versus Schroedinger operators: A case study in spontaneous symmetry breaking

Spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB) is mathematically tied to some limit, but must physically occur, approximately, before the limit. Approximate SSB has been independently understood for Schroedinger operators with double well potential in the classical limit (Jona-Lasinio et al, 1981; Simon, 1985) and for quantum spin systems in the thermodynamic limit (Anderson, 1952; Tasaki, 2019). We relate these to each other in the context of the Curie-Weiss model, establishing a remarkable relationship between this model (for finite N) and a discretized Schroedinger operator with double well potential.
