Inherited Weak Topological Insulator Signatures in Topological Hourglass Semimetal Nb3XTe6 (X = Si, Ge)

Using spin-resolved and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and first-principles calculations, we have identified bulk band inversion and spin polarized surface state evolved from a weak topological insulator (TI) phase in van der Waals materials Nb3XTe6 (X = Si, Ge). The fingerprints of weak TI homologically emerge with hourglass fermions, as multi nodal chains composed by the same pair of valence and conduction bands gapped by spin orbit coupling. The novel topological state, with a pair of valence and conduction bands encoding both weak TI and hourglass semimetal nature, is essential and guaranteed by nonsymmorphic symmetry. It is distinct from TIs studied previously based on band inversions without symmetry protections.

Observation of multi Dirac fermion cloning induced by moiré potential in graphene-SiC heterostructure

We reexamine the electronic structure of graphene on SiC substrate by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. We directly observed multiply cloning of Dirac cone, in addition to ones previously attributed to reconstruction. The locations, relative distances and anisotropy of Dirac cone replicas fully agree with the moiré pattern of graphene-SiC heterostructure. Our results provide a straightforward example of moiré potential modulation in engineering electronic structure with Dirac fermions.

The effects of spin fluctuations on the tunneling spectroscopy in High-T_c Superconductors

We investigate the effects of spin fluctuations on the tunneling spectra of the NS junction. In the high junction resistance limit, the dip/hump structure observed in ARPES data for the high Tc superconductors is reproduced in a RPA treatment of the t-t'-J model. It is shown that the dip/hump structure weakens as doping increases as reflected in the data. In the other limit, we predict that the zero bias Andreev peak can coexist with the dip/hump structure. Furthermore, the c-axis tunneling spectra is found to be very similar to a recent STM data once these fluctuations are included.

An Interpretation of the Neutron Scattering Data on Flux Lattices of Superconductors

Small angle neutron diffraction experiments are analyzed using recently developed and properly generalized one-field effective free energy method. In the case of experiment of Keimer et al on YBCO, we show that the fourfold symmetry of the underlying crystal is explicitly broken, but the reflection with respect to the [110] and [1\={1}0] axes remains a symmetry. The vortex lattice also becomes generally oblique instead of rectangular body centered. Unexpectedly rich phase diagram is described.

Static and Dynamical Anisotropy Effects in Mixed State of D - Wave Superconductors

We describe effects of anisotropy caused by the crystal lattice in d-wave superconductors with s-wave mixing using the effective free energy approach. Only the d-wave order parameter field $d$ is introduced, while the effect of the s wave mixing as well as other effects breaking the rotational symmetry down to the fourfold symmetry of the crystal are represented by a single four (covariant) derivative term: $ηd^{*}(Π_{y}^{2}-Π_{x}^{2})^{2}d $. The single vortex solution in a phenomenologically interesting range of parameters is almost identical to the two order parameters approach. We analytically consider the most general oblique lattice and orientation, but find that only rectangular body centered lattices are realized. A critical value $η_{c} $ at which a phase transition from the rectangular lattice to the square lattice takes place. The influence on the phase transition line is discussed. The formalism is extended to the time dependent anisotropic Ginzburg-Landau equations in order to calculate the effect of the anisotropy on the flux flow. The moving vortex structure is established and the magnetization as function of the current is calculated. Although the linear conductivity tensor is rotationally invariant due to the fourfold symmetry, the nonlinear one shows anisotropy. We calculate dependence of both direct and Hall I-V curves on the angle between the current and the crystal lattice orientation.

The Effect of Anisotropy on Vortex Lattice Structure and Flux Flow in d-Wave Superconductors

We describe effects of anisotropy caused by the crystal lattice in d-wave superconductors using effective free energy approach in which only one order parameter, the d-wave order parameter field, is used. All the effects of rotational symmetry breaking, including that of the s-wave mixing, can be parametrized by a single four derivative term. We find solutions for single vortex and the vortex lattice. Extending the formalism to include the time dependence, effects of anisotropy on moving vortex structure are calculated. Both direct and Hall I-V curves as functions of the angle between the current and the crystal lattice orientation are obtained.

Z=110--111 Elements and the Stability of Heavy and Superheavy Elements

The recent discovery of isotopes with Z=110--111 suggests evidence for (1) a monopole--monopole interaction that does not appear explicitly in Nilsson--Strutinsky mass systematics, and (2) a competition between $SU(2)$ and $SU(3)$ dynamical symmetries that has been predicted for this region. Our calculations suggest that these new isotopes are near spherical, and may represent a true island of superheavy nuclei, but shifted downward in neutron number by these new physical effects.

The fermion dynamical symmetry model for the even--even and even--odd nuclei in the Xe--Ba region

The even--even and even--odd nuclei $^{126}$Xe-$^{132}$Xe and $^{131}$Ba-$^{137}$Ba are shown to have a well-realized $SO_8 \supset SO_6 \supset SO_3$ fermion dynamical symmetry. Their low-lying energy levels can be described by a unified analytical expression with two (three) adjustable parameters for even--odd (even--even) nuclei that is derived from the fermion dynamical symmetry model. Analytical expressions are given for wavefunctions and for $E2$ transition rates that agree well with data. The distinction between the FDSM and IBM $SO_6$ limits is discussed. The experimentally observed suppression of the the energy levels with increasing $SO_5$ quantum number $τ$ can be explained as a perturbation of the pairing interaction on the $SO_6$ symmetry, which leads to an $SO_5$ Pairing effect for $SO_6$ nuclei.

Inverted Pairing and Excitation Induced by Quadrupole-Quadrupole Interaction

In this paper, eit is shown for a single-$j$ shell that the intrinsic excitations induced by the quadrupole-quadrupole interaction can be viewed as that due to the inverted surface-delta interaction whose multipole-pairing component with the largest spin is the dominant term and is attractive. This allow us to trace the origin of the recently introduced optimum pair description of rotation and leads naturally to analytical expressions for the rotational energies for the various bands in a single $j$-shell with the quadrupole-quadrupole interaction.
