Report of the Quark Flavor Physics Working Group

This report represents the response of the Intensity Frontier Quark Flavor Physics Working Group to the Snowmass charge. We summarize the current status of quark flavor physics and identify many exciting future opportunities for studying the properties of strange, charm, and bottom quarks. The ability of these studies to reveal the effects of new physics at high mass scales make them an essential ingredient in a well-balanced experimental particle physics program.

Study of Charmless Hadronic B Meson Decays to Pseudoscalar-Vector Final States

We report results of searches for charmless hadronic B meson decays to pseudoscalar(pi^+-,K^+-,Pi^0 or Ks^0)-vector(Rho, K* or Omega) final states. Using 9.7 million BBbar pairs collected with the CLEO detector, we report first observation of B^- --> Pi^-Rho^0, B^0 --> Pi^+-Rho^-+ and B^- --> Pi^-Omega, which are expected to be dominated by hadronic b --> u transitions. The measured branching fractions are (10.4+3.3-3.4+-2.1)x10^-6, (27.6+8.4-7.4+-4.2)x10^-6 and (11.3+3.3-2.9+-1.4)x10^-6, respectively. Branching fraction upper limits are set for all the other decay modes investigated.

Observation of Two Narrow States Decaying into $Ξ_{c}^{+}γ$ and $Ξ_{c}^{0}γ$

We report the first observation of two narrow charmed strange baryons decaying to $Ξ_c^+γ$ and $Ξ_c^0γ$, respectively, using data from the CLEO II detector at CESR. We interpret the observed signals as the $Ξ_c^{+\prime}(c{su})$ and $Ξ_c^{0\prime}(c{sd})$, the symmetric partners of the well-established antisymmetric $Ξ_c^+(c[su])$ and $Ξ_c^0(c[sd])$. The mass differences $M(Ξ_c^{+\prime})-M(Ξ_c^+)$ and $M(Ξ_c^{0\prime})-M(Ξ_c^0)$ are measured to be $107.8\pm 1.7\pm 2.5$ and $107.0\pm 1.4\pm 2.5 MeV/c^2$, respectively.
