Enhanced thermoelectric effects in a driven one-dimensional system

We investigate the thermoelectric properties of a one-dimensional quantum system in the presence of an external driving. We employ Floquet scattering theory to calculate linear-response stationary thermoelectric figures of merit in a single-channel conductor subjected to a periodically varying delta-like potential barrier. We also include a step barrier in one of the leads as a model of a nanoscale inhomogeneous semiconducting system. In the absence of a step barrier, we found that external driving can significantly enhance the Seebeck coefficient, particularly at low temperatures, with a relative increase of up to 200% at high frequencies compared to the static case. In the presence of a step barrier, we found that the thermoelectric Onsager coefficient for the driven case is also enhanced compared to the static case, with a significant photon-assisted effect at low temperatures when the chemical potential is within the semiconductor's gap. Our results demonstrate that external driving can be used to tune and enhance the thermoelectric capabilities of low-electron-density nanodevices.

Automatic Stack Velocity Picking Using an Unsupervised Ensemble Learning Method

Seismic velocity picking algorithms that are both accurate and efficient can greatly speed up seismic data processing, with the primary approach being the use of velocity spectra. Despite the development of some supervised deep learning-based approaches to automatically pick the velocity, they often come with costly manual labeling expenses or lack interpretability. In comparison, using physical knowledge to drive unsupervised learning techniques has the potential to solve this problem in an efficient manner. We suggest an Unsupervised Ensemble Learning (UEL) approach to achieving a balance between reliance on labeled data and picking accuracy, with the aim of determining the stack velocity. UEL makes use of the data from nearby velocity spectra and other known sources to help pick efficient and reasonable velocity points, which are acquired through a clustering technique. Testing on both the synthetic and field data sets shows that UEL is more reliable and precise in auto-picking than traditional clustering-based techniques and the widely used Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) method.

Dissipative Callan-Harvey mechanism in 2+1 D Dirac system: The fate of edge states along a domain wall

The Callan-Harvey mechanism in 2+1 D Jackiw-Rebbi model is revisited. We analyzed Callan-Harvey anomaly inflow in the massive Chern insulator (quantum anomalous Hall system) subject to external electric field. In addition to the conventional current flowing from the bulk to edge due to parity anomaly, we considered the dissipation of the edge charge due to interaction with external bosonic bath in 2+1 D and due to external bath of photons in 3+1 D. In the case of 2+1 D bosonic bath, we found the new stationary state, which is defined by the balance between Callan-Harvey current and the outgoing flow caused by the dissipation processes. In the case of 3+1 D photon bath, we found a critical electric field, below which this balance state can be achieved, but above which there is no such a balance. Furthermore, we estimated the photon-mediated transition rate between 2+1 D bulk and 1+1 D topological edge state of the order of one ns$^{-1}$ (nanosecond) at the room temperature.

Hall conductivity as the topological invariant in magnetic Brillouin zone in the presence of interactions

Hall conductivity for the intrinsic anomalous quantum Hall effect in homogeneous systems is given by the topological invariant composed of the Green function depending on momentum of quasiparticle. This expression reveals correspondence with the mathematical notion of the degree of mapping. A more involved situation takes place for the quantum Hall effect in the presence of external magnetic field. In this case the mentioned expression remains valid if the Green function is taken in a specific representation, where it becomes the infinite - dimensional matrix \cite{Imai:1990zz} or if it is replaced by its Wigner transformation while ordinary products are replaced by the Moyal products \cite{ZW2019}. Both these expressions, unfortunately, are much more complicated and might be useless for the practical calculations. Here we represent the alternative representation for the Hall conductivity of a uniform system in the presence of constant magnetic field. The Hall conductivity is expressed through the Green function taken in Harper representation, when its nonhomogeneity is attributed to the matrix structure while functional dependence is on one momentum that belongs to magnetic Brillouin zone. Our consideration for the interacting systems is non - perturbative and is based on the Schwinger - Dyson equations truncated in a reasonable way. We demonstrate that in this approximation the expression for the Hall conductivity in Harper representation remains valid, where the interacting Green function is to be used instead of the non - interacting one. We, therefore, propose that the obtained expression may be used for the topological description of fractional quantum Hall effect.

Influence of interactions on Integer Quantum Hall Effect

Conductivity of Integer Quantum Hall Effect (IQHE) may be expressed as the topological invariant composed of the two - point Green function. Such a topological invariant is known both for the case of homogeneous systems with intrinsic Anomalous Quantum Hall Effect (AQHE) and for the case of IQHE in the inhomogeneous systems. In the latter case we may speak, for example, of the AQHE in the presence of elastic deformations and of the IQHE in presence of magnetic field. The topological invariant for the general case of inhomogeneous systems is expressed through the Wigner transformed Green functions and contains Moyal product. When it is reduced to the expression for the IQHE in the homogeneous systems the Moyal product is reduced to the ordinary one while the Wigner transformed Green function (defined in phase space) is reduced to the Green function in momentum space. Originally the mentioned above topological representation has been derived for the non - interacting systems. We demonstrate that in a wide range of different cases in the presence of interactions the Hall conductivity is given by the same expression, in which the noninteracting two - point Green function is substituted by the complete two - point Green function with the interactions taken into account. Several types of interactions are considered including the contact four - fermion interactions, Yukawa and Coulomb interactions. We present the complete proof of this statement up to the two loops, and argue that the similar result remains to all orders of perturbation theory. It is based on the incorporation of Wigner - Weyl calculus to the perturbation theory. We, therefore, formulate Feynmann rules of diagram technique in terms of the Wigner transformed propagators.

Automatic Velocity Picking Using a Multi-Information Fusion Deep Semantic Segmentation Network

Velocity picking, a critical step in seismic data processing, has been studied for decades. Although manual picking can produce accurate normal moveout (NMO) velocities from the velocity spectra of prestack gathers, it is time-consuming and becomes infeasible with the emergence of large amount of seismic data. Numerous automatic velocity picking methods have thus been developed. In recent years, deep learning (DL) methods have produced good results on the seismic data with medium and high signal-to-noise ratios (SNR). Unfortunately, it still lacks a picking method to automatically generate accurate velocities in the situations of low SNR. In this paper, we propose a multi-information fusion network (MIFN) to estimate stacking velocity from the fusion information of velocity spectra and stack gather segments (SGS). In particular, we transform the velocity picking problem into a semantic segmentation problem based on the velocity spectrum images. Meanwhile, the information provided by SGS is used as a prior in the network to assist segmentation. The experimental results on two field datasets show that the picking results of MIFN are stable and accurate for the scenarios with medium and high SNR, and it also performs well in low SNR scenarios.

Multilayer Haldane model

We propose the model of layered materials, in which each layer is described by the conventional Haldane model, while the inter - layer hopping parameter corresponds to the ABC stacking. We calculate the topological invariant $N_3$ for the resulting model, which is responsible for the conductivity of intrinsic quantum Hall effect. It has been shown that in a certain range of the values of interlayer hopping parameter, the value of $N_3$ is equal to the number of layers multiplied by the topological invariant of each layer. At the same time this value may be calculated using the low energy effective theory.

Our results were obtained for the non - interacting systems. But we expect that they remain valid for the interacting systems as well. We, therefore, propose the hypothesis that the obtained expression may be used for the topological description of fractional quantum Hall effect.

Hall conductivity as topological invariant in phase space

It is well known that the quantum Hall conductivity in the presence of constant magnetic field is expressed through the topological TKNN invariant. The same invariant is responsible for the intrinsic anomalous quantum Hall effect (AQHE), which, in addition, may be represented as one in momentum space composed of the two point Green's functions. We propose the generalization of this expression to the QHE in the presence of non-uniform magnetic field. The proposed expression is the topological invariant in phase space composed of the Weyl symbols of the two-point Green's function. It is applicable to a wide range of non-uniform tight-binding models, including the interacting ones.

Influence of interactions on the anomalous quantum Hall effect

The anomalous quantum Hall conductivity in the 2+1D topological insulators in the absence of interactions may be expressed as the topological invariant composed of the two - point Green function. For the noninteracting system this expression is the alternative way to represent the TKNN invariant. It is widely believed that in the presence of interactions the Hall conductivity is given by the same expression, in which the noninteracting two - point Green function is substituted by the complete two - point Green function with the interactions taken into account. However, the proof of this statement has not been given so far. In the present paper we give such a proof in the framework of the particular tight - binding models of the $2+1$ D topological insulator. Besides, we extend our consideration to the $3+1$ D Weyl semimetals. It was known previously that with the interactions neglected the Hall conductivity in those systems is expressed through the two - point Green function in the way similar to that of the $2+1$ D topological insulators. Again, the influence of interactions on this expression has not been investigated previously. We consider this problem within the framework of the particular $3+1$D model of Weyl semimetal in the presence of the contact four - fermion interactions and Coulomb interactions. We prove (up to the one - loop approximation), that the Hall conductivity is given by the same expression as in the noninteracting case, in which the noninteracting Green function is substituted by the complete two - point Green function with the interactions included. Basing on the obtained expressions we discuss the topological phase transitions accompanied by the change of Hall conductivity.

Wigner-Weyl calculus in Keldysh technique

We discuss the non-equilibrium dynamics of condensed matter/quantum field systems in the framework of Keldysh technique. In order to deal with the inhomogeneous systems we use the Wigner-Weyl formalism. Unification of the mentioned two approaches is demonstrated on the example of Hall conductivity. We express Hall conductivity through the Wigner transformed two-point Green's functions. We demonstrate how this expression is reduced to the topological number in thermal equilibrium at zero temperature. At the same time both at finite temperature and out of equilibrium the topological invariance is lost. Moreover, Hall conductivity becomes sensitive to interaction corrections.

Feynman Rules in terms of the Wigner transformed Green functions

In the models defined on the inhomogeneous background the propagators depend on the two space - time momenta rather than on one momentum as in the homogeneous systems. Therefore, the conventional Feynman diagrams contain extra integrations over momenta, which complicate calculations. We propose to express all amplitudes through the Wigner transformed propagators. This approach allows us to reduce the number of integrations. As a price for this the ordinary products of functions are replaced by the Moyal products. The corresponding rules of the diagram technique are formulated using an example of the model with the fermions interacting via an exchange by scalar bosons. The extension of these rules to the other models is straightforward. This approach may simplify calculations in certain particular cases. The most evident one is the calculation of various non - dissipative currents.

A Note on Bloch theorem

Bloch theorem in ordinary quantum mechanics means the absence of the total electric current in equilibrium. In the present paper we analyze the possibility that this theorem remains valid within quantum field theory relevant for the description of both high energy physics and condensed matter physics phenomena. First of all, we prove that the total electric current in equilibrium is the topological invariant for the gapped fermions that are subject to periodical boundary conditions, i.e. it is robust to the smooth modification of such systems. This property remains valid when the inter - fermion interactions due to the exchange by bosonic excitations are taken into account perturbatively. We give the proof of this statement to all orders in perturbation theory. Thus we prove the weak version of the Bloch theorem, and conclude that the total current remains zero in any system, which is obtained by smooth modification of the one with the gapped charged fermions, periodical boundary conditions, and vanishing total electric current. We analyse several examples, in which the fermions are gapless. In some of them the total electric current vanishes. At the same time we propose the counterexamples of the equilibrium gapless systems, in which the total electric current is nonzero.

Hall conductivity as the topological invariant in phase space in the presence of interactions and non-uniform magnetic field

The quantum Hall conductivity in the presence of constant magnetic field may be represented as the topological TKNN invariant. Recently the generalization of this expression has been proposed for the non - uniform magnetic field. \rev{The quantum Hall conductivity is represented as the topological invariant in phase space in terms of the Wigner transformed two - point Green function.} This representation has been derived when the inter - electron interactions were neglected. It is natural to suppose, that in the presence of interactions the Hall conductivity is still given by the same expression, in which the non - interacting Green function is substituted by the complete two - point Green function \rev{ including the interaction contributions}. We prove this conjecture within the framework of the $2+1$ D tight - binding model of rather general type using the ordinary perturbation theory.

Chemical abundance analysis of 19 barium stars

We aim at deriving accurate atmospheric parameters and chemical abundances of 19 barium (Ba) stars, including both strong and mild Ba stars, based on the high signal-to-noise ratio and high resolution Echelle spectra obtained from the 2.16 m telescope at Xinglong station of National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The chemical abundances of the sample stars were obtained from an LTE, plane-parallel and line-blanketed atmospheric model by inputting the atmospheric parameters (effective temperatures, surface gravities, metallicity and microturbulent velocity) and equivalent widths of stellar absorption lines. These samples of Ba stars are giants indicated by atmospheric parameters, metallicities and kinematic analysis about UVW velocity. Chemical abundances of 17 elements were obtained for these Ba stars. Their light elements (O, Na, Mg, Al, Si, Ca, Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn and Ni) are similar to the solar abundances. Our samples of Ba stars show obvious overabundances of neutron-capture (n-capture) process elements relative to the Sun. Their median abundances of [Ba/Fe], [La/Fe] and [Eu/Fe] are 0.54, 0.65 and 0.40, respectively. The YI and ZrI abundances are lower than Ba, La and Eu, but higher than the light elements for the strong Ba stars and similar to the iron-peak elements for the mild stars. There exists a positive correlation between Ba intensity and [Ba/Fe]. For the n-capture elements (Y, Zr, Ba, La), there is an anti-correlation between their [X/Fe] and [Fe/H]. We identify nine of our sample stars as strong Ba stars with [Ba/Fe]>0.6 where seven of them have Ba intensity Ba=2-5, one has Ba=1.5 and another one has Ba=1.0. The remaining ten stars are classified as mild Ba stars with 0.17<[Ba/Fe]<0.54.

Systematic enumeration of crystalline networks with only sp2 configuration in cubic lattices

Systematic enumeration of crystalline networks with some special topological characters is of considerable interest in both mathematics and crystallography. Based on the restriction of lattice in cubic and inequivalent nodes not exceeding three, a simple method is proposed for systematic searching for three-dimensional crystalline networks with only sp2-configuration nodes (C-sp2-TDTCNs). We systematically scan the cubic space groups from No.195 to No.230 and find many C-sp2-TDTCNs including all the previously proposed cubic ones. These C-sp2-TDTCNs are topologically intriguing and can be considered as good templates for searching carbon crystals with novel properties, predicting high pressure phases of element nitrogen and designing three-dimensional hydrocarbon crystals. Structure optimizations are considered by regrading these C-sp2-TDTCNs as carbon crystals and the corresponding energetic stability of these carbon crystals are evaluated, using the the density functional theory (DFT) based first-principle calculations. Our results are of wide interests in mathematics, condensed physics, crystallography and material science.

Magnetic Properties of Single Transition-Metal Atom Absorbed Graphdiyne and Graphyne Sheet

The electronic and magnetic properties of single 3d transition-metal(TM) atom (V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, and Ni) adsorbed graphdiyne (GDY) and graphyne (GY) are systematically studied using first-principles calculations within the density functional framework. We find that the adsorption of TM atom not only efficiently modulates the electronic structures of GDY/GY system, but also introduces excellent magnetic properties, such as half-metal and spin-select half-semiconductor. Such modulation originates from the charge transfer between TM adatom and the GDY/GY sheet as well as the electron redistribution of the TM intra-atomic s, p, and d orbitals. Our results indicate that the TM adsorbed GDY/GY are excellent candidates for spintronics.

First-principles study of native point defects in Bi2Se3

Using first-principles method within the framework of the density functional theory, we study the influence of native point defect on the structural and electronic properties of Bi$_2$Se$_3$. Se vacancy in Bi$_2$Se$_3$ is a double donor, and Bi vacancy is a triple acceptor. Se antisite (Se$_{Bi}$) is always an active donor in the system because its donor level ($\varepsilon$(+1/0)) enters into the conduction band. Interestingly, Bi antisite(Bi$_{Se1}$) in Bi$_2$Se$_3$ is an amphoteric dopant, acting as a donor when $μ$$_e$$<$0.119eV (the material is typical p-type) and as an acceptor when $μ$$_e$$>$0.251eV (the material is typical n-type). The formation energies under different growth environments (such as Bi-rich or Se-rich) indicate that under Se-rich condition, Se$_{Bi}$ is the most stable native defect independent of electron chemical potential $μ$$_e$. Under Bi-rich condition, Se vacancy is the most stable native defect except for under the growth window as $μ$$_e$$>$0.262eV (the material is typical n-type) and $Δ$$μ$$_{Se}$$<$-0.459eV(Bi-rich), under such growth windows one negative charged Bi$_{Se1}$ is the most stable one.
