Equidistribution Conditions for Gaps of Geometric Numerical Semigroups

In 2008, Wang \& Wang showed that the set of gaps of a numerical semigroup generated by two coprime positive integers $a$ and $b$ is equidistributed modulo 2 precisely when $a$ and $b$ are both odd. Shor generalized this in 2022, showing that the set of gaps of such a numerical semigroup is equidistributed modulo $m$ when $a$ and $b$ are coprime to $m$ and at least one of them is 1 modulo $m$. In this paper, we further generalize these results by considering numerical semigroups generalized by geometric sequences of the form $a^k, a^{k-1}b, \dots, b^k$, aiming to determine when the corresponding set of gaps is equidistributed modulo $m$. With elementary methods, we are able to obtain a result for $k=2$ and all $m$. We then work with cyclotomic rings, using results about multiplicative independence of cyclotomic units to obtain results for all $k$ and infinitely many $m$. Finally, we take an approach with cyclotomic units and Dirichlet L-functions to obtain results for all $k$ and all $m$.

On residues of rounded shifted fractions with a common numerator

For any positive integer $n$ along with parameters $α$ and $ν$, we define and investigate $α$-shifted, $ν$-offset, floor sequences of length $n$. We find exact and asymptotic formulas for the number of integers in such a sequence that are in a particular congruence class. As we will see, these quantities are related to certain problems of counting lattice points contained in regions of the plane bounded by conic sections. We give specific examples for the number of lattice points contained in elliptical regions and make connections to a few well-known rings of integers, including the Gaussian integers and Eisenstein integers.

Reflective numerical semigroups

We define a reflective numerical semigroup of genus $g$ as a numerical semigroup that has a certain reflective symmetry when viewed within $\mathbb{Z}$ as an array with $g$ columns. Equivalently, a reflective numerical semigroup has one gap in each residue class modulo $g$. In this paper, we give an explicit description for all reflective numerical semigroups. With this, we can describe the reflective members of well-known families of numerical semigroups as well as obtain formulas for the number of reflective numerical semigroups of a given genus or given Frobenius number.

On Free Numerical Semigroups and the Construction of Minimal Telescopic Sequences

A free numerical semigroup is a submonoid of the non-negative integers with finite complement that is additively generated by the terms in a telescopic sequence with gcd 1. However, such a sequence need not be minimal, which is to say that some proper subsequence may generate the same numerical semigroup, and that subsequence need not be telescopic. In this paper, we will see that for a telescopic sequence with any gcd, there is a minimal telescopic sequence which generates the same submonoid. In particular, given a free numerical semigroup we can construct a telescopic generating sequence which is minimal. In the process, we will examine some operations on and constructions of telescopic sequences in general.

On Sylvester sums of compound sequence semigroup complements

In this paper, we consider the set $\textit{NR}(G)$ of natural numbers which are not in the numerical semigroup generated by a compound sequence $G$. We generalize a result of Tuenter which completely characterizes $\textit{NR}(G)$. We use this result to compute Sylvester sums, and we give a direct application to the computation of weights of higher-order Weierstrass points on some families of complex algebraic curves.
